Garden Shed Sliding Door Lock Recommendations

Recently installed a Stratco HM3 garden shed with sliding door (see link below). The lock that is included with the shed is rubbish, so I am looking for ideas/suggestions on options for securely locking the sliding door.

Appreciate any ideas people might have? Keen to use a padlock, but open to other ideas?

Here's the link to the shed: https://www.stratco.com.au/au/sheds--garages/garden-sheds/ha…

    • Yep, have looked at a number of those, but none fit the shape of the shed. So have decided to make my own locking setup. I figure if I am going to buy something from Bunnings and then hack it to fit, I might as well make my own.

Why bother with anything other than the supplied one?
It would be as easy as undoing a few tek screws to bypass any lock with that shed
    Don't you have insurance?

    • Just drill the pop rivets.

      • Burglars coming with their own power drills… I'd say that'd be rare.

You'll stop an opportunist with an upgraded lock, but angone who has targetted your shed for any reason will scope it out and come prepared. That may mean with a drill and/or grinder.

    • Agreed. I'd just like to slow 'em down a little.

    Username checks out lol

  • Not a lot of point. If they cant get the lock open a few well placed kicks will get it open.

    • I'm just looking at making it more of a challenge… but I get what you are saying.

    • Yep! It's the same as people with these massive beefy doors and locks etc. The thief just moves to the side of them, and kicks the window in!

We had security doors and window locks on wooden framed windows. The thief just used a crowbar to pop the window open one day. Those whitco window winders are held on by the smallest bit of metal at the end of the winder, they just bend and pop off if you use the crow bar to jimmy the window open at the point they attach. Totally useless really.

I think they slowed them down by about 20 seconds compared to not having them!

Have you thought about checking out the biggest hardware store and see what they have?
