  I used one of these for a while when my regular zippy lanyards kept breaking and the few keys and my ID were too heavy for the mechanism.

  It was super heavy duty, but also very large, and the little belt clip thing it has to be able to be attached or worn is quite uncomfortable as it stuck into my side when worn just on my waistband.
