Give up on Qantas FF Points and Associated Credit Cards?

AFR has been posting articles about incoming changes to Qantas FF - https://www.afr.com/companies/transport/internal-documents-p….

Now I'm new to credit cards and FF points, having just got my first last year, but my aim was to churn and bank points for a trip sometime in the future (5 years +). Given these purported changes and seemingly less value in the future, should I give up on Qantas and its related credit cards and start aiming for some better value and better quality programs?

  • No you should not, take the value if it is there.

  • The current program is still there (Classic Rewards) according to the draft. So nothing is changing there.

The new program is adding a new tier that makes your current points more valuable potentially. Good chance they'll be harder to earn, too. And good chance the Classic Rewards might also get slightly devalued yet again.

  • Lately their value has been crazy good (you can easily sell them for 1.4c p/p) so even it their value went down a fair bit to 1c p/p it'd just be going to their value they had a year or two back.

I'd keep churning based in the evidence so far.

    • Standard 'it's against the T&Cs to sell points and they can ban/delete your account' warning.

Of course, just like "rewards points" at Woolworths, you're not saving anything, you're just paying higher prices across the board every day of the week compared to the competition. The smart move is to not fly Qantas and come out ahead financially every single time

  • Whats the term used for the opposite of an improvement?

    That's this.

  • Yeah they're worthless now, give them to me and I'll dispose of them thoughtfully
