Was shopping for this well reviewed grinder and came across this. RRP is $349.
I ended up getting JB Hi Fi to price match ($293.01 plus $5.99 shipping) so I'll have it in 4 days instead of 3-4 weeks.

Not as cheap as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/830557 but TGG Commercial membership isn't required.

$279 delivered at Bing Lee eBay with coupon SAVHGT

    • Damn, that's a great price, wish I found that last night!

Is this the way to go for an entry level better than the smart grinder?

    • DF54 is the entry level king but it's around $450

I’ve had one of these for a few years. The grinder itself is ok but the support is crap.

Mine was not aligned correctly and as a result the plastic lugs holding the burr were constantly breaking resulting in a shit grind.

Baratza support suggested there was rocks in my beans so I started sorting through beans to make sure there were no rocks but the problem continued.

Instead of repairing/replacing the grinder under warranty they just made me purchase parts to repair it myself.

It wasn’t easy pulling it apart and replacing components but I got it to a point where it works but still isn’t quite right.

      ‘rocks in the beans’..?

      damn.

  • This or the DF54 for espresso?

    • +1

DF54 has flat burrs and is single dose whereas Baratza Encore has conical burrs and a hopper.

Generally speaking, flat burrs generally provide more clarity while conical burrs more complexity. For espresso, I prefere complexity (so Baratza) but the DF54 is a fun machine to work with. If you go DF54, I'd recommend ordering directly from them (https://df64coffee.com/en-au/products/df54). I had a good experience buying my DF64 Gen 2 from that website.

      • Can you describe more about clarity vs complexity?

      • Thanks! I went with the DF54 but from Alternative Brewing simply for the dodgy pricing they had on df64coffee.

        $358 + $80 shipping? gtfo!

      DF54 100%

  • These are utterly horrific for noise unless they've revised it recently. I certainly didn't want to hear the encore.

  • I bought one over the weekend. Definitely not an upgrade over my stock grinder in my Express Impress. This would pair well with a standalone machine that has no grinder to bring up to spec of the express line and up. But don't go buying this as some sort of upgrade.
