Prices are ok, but 3 month warranty kills it for me, not worth the risk

    • I would agree. BENQ projectors have always been the most reliable for me, but that is a small sample size.

      • I have had two, one refurb that died from spots on the DLP, another new one that died with a colour wheel that would lose sync after a few minutes, fixed that one with aliexpress parts and is currently still running. I think they are shit. Still, 4k for 900 bucks…

I reckon this seems cheaper than you'd get second hand no? So warranty is way better in that context?

    • You still have all the usual consumer guarantees under the ACL.

  • Is it normal for projectors to still have lamps these days?

    • Yes, very much so. Lasers are not mainstream yet.

      • I'm guessing LED lamps are not a thing - reduced heat, reduced power use?

        • They are a thing, This particular refurbished BenQ model came out 6 or so years ago. Old tech.

        • LED's are a thing in the budget sub $300 projectors. The upside for lamps is that the CRI and TLCI of filament bulbs are a perfect 100 on the scale, meaning the colour gamut is higher than budget LED's.

With DLP projectors you have a ~450nm InGan laser diode shining into a phosphor wheel converting to white light, with more expensive projectors you have full colour spectrum array with RGB (638nm, 520nm, 450nm respectively), allowing for much higher colour gamut and image quality.

All technologies have their pros and cons.

Aspect ratio ruins it. How hard do you have to squint?

10,000 pixel wide and 1 pixel high would be very hard to watch!

  • Note that the only one with lens shift seems to be the W2700 and even then only 10% vertical.

While resolutions have gone up, other features in projectors have been seemingly stripped back. Bit disappointing!

    • Epson has great projectors with good lens shift and other features. They offer refurbs from time to time. Good bang for buck new or refurb.

    • I have a 15 year old 720P sony I use outside and other than the crap resolution the quality and lens features of that thing is amazing.

  • “True 4k” LOL!

That is actually the industry term for wobbled 4k.

    • What's wrong with it? As in they have to stress it's not "upscaled 4k"?

Makes sense in that context. Maybe they mean 4K is an extremely loose term for anything "around 4000" pixels wide, so saying anything is "true 4K" is a bit silly.
Obviously 3840 x 2160 is the "4K" most consumers are looking for so it's pretty justifiable in this context either way.

Been wanting a W2700 since it was announced to replace my W1070… urge to buy, rising!

    • My W1070 is just brilliant and I have still never had to replace a lamp! I still sit in wonder that I am running a 10yo projector and it is looking so good on a 100" screen. Has not missed a beat.

    • Lol, Im happy reading im not the only one still rocking a W1070. Lamp is still going strong. But i often wonder what a 4K projector would look like in comparison. Its tempting, but when theres nothing wrong with my current one its hard to justify.

    • I moved to an X3000i - the picture quality is significantly better - almost surprisingly so !

      • Yeah, but at over $3000, i would hope so. Sadly my bank account would not allow this…..as well as the mrs

  • I love my TK800M. I've had it for a couple of years now and it always surpises me at how good the image is, even though it is mounted further back than the recommended spec and being aimed at a black out blind instead of a proper screen.
