    Wrong title—- not a heat-pump.

  • +2

    Not a heat pump dryer

  • +7

$279 for the dryer and $300 a year on the cost to run the dryer 🤣

  • +5

Don’t buy vented dryers they are very high on bills and makes all your clothes one size smaller after multiple washes.

Don’t buy vented dryers they are very high on bills

      How high?

    • +6

Agree re the bills, but how would a vented dryer shrink the clothes but heat pump one wouldn't?

    • +2

Not only the cost, the impact they have on indoor humidity is tremendous (ie they make it much higher). I had an old housemate and when she used the dryer it turned the bathroom into a sauna.

      • I've found that having the dryer in the bathroom and using the exhaust fan that is made for steam has a decent impact.
At least for those times when you need to use a dryer.

        • +1

Such fan would be a must-have. Otherwise I have no idea how people use these.

But then, I've always lived in places where laundry wasn't well separated. But if I had space for a well-separated laundry, I'd probably also have space for hanging clothes and avoid any damage done to them by any dryer.

And I always watch my electricity bills.

    • +2

Some people don't have an option as heat-pump and condenser dryers cannot be wall mounted

    • +2

Unless you want to wall mount your dryer, or only need to use it occasionally, or can't justify spending any extra, etc

    • +2

I use mine in winter for 8-10 mins after air drying the clothes for 1-2 days, just to get the last dampy feel off

    • Don’t buy dryers at all unless you have no other way to dry clothes.

Anyone living in a house for example should air dry 99% of the time. I air dry and I live in an apartment. It creates less humidity than a dryer, in my case none.

Dryer use is ecologically damaging and, in my opinion, for most people unnecessary.

      • +2

Unless you have kids, live in Melbourne, have a small house, don't like being surrounded by damp clothes, etc

You can also save power by reading a book instead of watching TV…

        • You can also save power by reading a book instead of watching TV…

You are juxtaposing two different things.

Whilst air drying and using a dryer are the same thing, getting clothes dry.

      • Inside drying makes it have a little musty smell. And in winter I could dry it for 4-5 days inside and it'll still have the dampy feel. I had to bring my washing to my mums so she could put it in the dryer.

        • +1

I use dehumidifier, works pretty well for drying the clothes, even in winters

          • @taker312: Was gonna get one but we sold our rental and took the new dryer back haha. We don't have a vent space so using it to just dry off the dampy feel works for us

    Vented Dryer $279

    Very frustrating…

  • -1

How the hell am I going to bring this back from the Aldi at my local shopping centre???

  • Note the vent is at the REAR of the machine. Not well suited to under bench setups as it will get we and moldy. You need to use the included L pipe and purchase additional piping to route it somewhere else. Could be unsightly.

    • +1

I have an older Aldi model. It's wall-mounted under a false ceiling, and I couldn't figure out a way to vent it properly and still be able to hang it on the wall. I just put a 90deg elbow on the L pipe so it vents forwards, down the side of the machine.

  • What's the cheapest way to have the dryer installed and wall mounted? Airtasker?

    • Would like to know too.
Install is a breeze. It's the wall mount that is the issue.

  • I hate almost everything about my 5 year old ALDI dryer.
It is lightweight and hangs on the wall easily, it still works.. but functionally it's bad.

I wanted it for bedding and sheets. It only spins in one direction and just spins my sheets into a solid, wet ball. Unlike a $500 vented drier I've used regularly that changes direction every minute or so and in my experience don't roll the sheets up. "anti-tangle reverse tumbling action" apparently.

It has 3 time settings, 1 hour, Dry, Ultra dry (or similar), but if you pause and open the door to check on the drying, it resets everything so the time cycle starts again.

If you have a specific need for a clothes dryer , do more research and see if the product does what you want it to.

  • Stirling brand, new model… manual and what-not available here:

    https://stirlingappliances.com.au/product/6kg-vented-clothes…

  • if you are on the edge and undecided regarding washing machine, dont buy it. We setup and then wife found that there is no softner compartment, if you pause and open the lid to add softner then the machine forgets the cycle and you start again. Also, there is no delay timer. Just missing some simple basic features that most washing machines have had for at least 10 years.
