  • 'Super bright' - for about 1 minute, then drops to about 500-600 Lumens. Wuben is cheap for a reason.

Name 1 light that holds 2000 lumens for the whole battery in this form factor, I'll be waiting

      • -4

We scuba with the Apeks Luna Torch holds 2000lm for 2hrs (and we did once use it for about 1.5hrs at high). But it's not cheap.

So yeah, stop waiting, choose life!

        • +5

wow you really thought you said something there,
it's not the same form factor,
nor did you provide proof that it maintains 2000 lumens for the whole battery ("i didn't notice it getting dimmer!" is obviously not sufficient evidence but I feel I need to mention that)
+ it's liquid cooled where we are talking about an air cooled flashlight in this case which makes all the difference

          not so easy buddy

Not cheap is an understatement.. $1k 😐

        • +2

          Wow. Some comparison that.

And for 1k it had better last that long

          • @sotko: for me I don't even care about how expensive it is

it's more physics that prevents a 21700 tube flashlight from sustaining 2000 lumens across the battery range uncooled.

        • Wait, you're comparing a $1049 light to a $39 light! good one sherlock.

      • +1

The brightness claim is worth noting, not sure I'd call it cheap though

      • +2

Yeah I wish the manufacturers listed the sustained lumens.

The best cheap option I've found is the Sofirn SP33S. It has a boost driver and will do 'High' mode (2000 lumens) for about 20 minutes before ramping down.

It uses a 26650 though and is about 7mm wider than a 21700 torch like the Wuben C2.

        • That's pretty impressive. Here's a review and they managed to use a high drain 21700 for their test.

@Caped Baldy: Yeah, that is the review that got me interested in the SP33S. Surprisingly there are still not many other reviews.

Occasionally in the better sales it is about $50 - $55 AUD on sofirnlight.com.

The other interesting light is the Wurkkos TC22, which is often around the $50 AUS price. It's the same LED (and likely boost driver) as the SP33S, but 21700 only, so 28mm vs 36mm diameter, which makes a noticeable difference in a pocket. Sustained lumens on high look pretty good - 1500+ lumens, depending on LED. I prefer 6000K (better for my uses) but the TS22 has a XHP70.3 HI CRI 5000K option.

I've literally got the green XHP70.3 HI CRI version in my pocket. It's a very nice light.

              I hadn't even heard of the SP33S and do have a spare 26550… The other 26550 is in a D4SV2 W2.

              • @Caped Baldy: Yeah awesome! How do your find the XHP70.3 HI CRI?

I was tempted to buy one, as I like high CRI for many uses. But figured I had enough torches, and don't really need the TC22 when I have the SP33S.

I bought the 6500K SP33S as I do a lot of night boating in a dinghy, which often involved dodging sticks / logs in the water at 50 km/h. And I find the cooler light makes debris stand out much better than warmer colour temps.

My other most frequent use is if going to the dog park, where the cooler light also better shows up "debris" in the grass I want to avoid! I usually stick the SP33S on the fence at one side and light up most of the dog park with it.

I wish there was more focus in reviews on sustained output. Different testing methodologies make a big difference. And some reviewers seem to only do fan cooled sustained tests.

@Prong: I really like it and EDC it as it fits in my back pocket with the clip and I don't feel it when sitting. The two clicks to turn on is helpful and prevents accidental burning of holes hahaha. I like the tint and the beam profile is good. Throw could be better but I've got other lights for that (no LEPs yet).

The SP33S is a very intriguing light and am tempted hahaha

      • In this form factor there are plenty that hold 1500+ Lumens. Any decent torch with a XHP70.2 and 21700 cell.

But my point was that advertising 2000 Lumens that's only good for 20 seconds is really no better than advertising 100,000 Chinese Lumens. If you want to sustain 2000 Lumens, you won't be doing it in this form factor, or anywhere near this price point.

        • not even 1500 haha. and the ones that get close to 1500 are triples or quads like the Olight Seeker 2 and the Wuben TO50R (ironically the brand you're accusing of being cheap also makes one of the most well regulated lights) But if you can find me sustained 1500+ lumens uncooled 21700 tube light I'm happy to be proved wrong.

I don't really agree with the chinese lumens comparison because chinese lumens completely fail on the promise, but this technically does hit these figures or at least comes really close that you could argue it's LED lumens not OTF lumens.

But regarding runtime yes I agree the ratings are rubbish but that's because it's based on a rubbish spec aka FL1 but you know if it meets the specs it's not technically lying

  • Between this and the Sofirn SC31.

Which one is better? Both are around $39 at the moment - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08FR9QJP4

    • +3

You'd be happy with either one. They both have the same LED with the same colour temp (6500K) which has less tint shift than the 5000K version. The Sofirn has a smaller battery and I think the head is smaller so optics won't be as good - less floody and looks to be less throw. The Sofirn has anduril UI which is a surprisingly complex UI if you want to get into the weeds.

The more direct comparison would be the SP35 vs C2

You can buy directly from Sofirn, price is comparable https://www.sofirnlight.com/products/sofirn-sc31pro-edc-flas…

At the moment the C2 is probably better value. Personally I went with the wurkkos TS22 XHL70.3 HI

      • Thank you for the detailed explanation 🙏

      • The Sorfin SC31 and Wurkkos FC31 look similar. Is one a clone of the other?

  • can someone tell how the charging indicator works? I got the torch today it works great, however when I plug it in to charge I get no indication that the torch is being charged. Does that mean it is fully charged? Or is it faulty? I have tried different chargers and cables, no luck.

    Cheers for any help.

    • I don't have this torch but it should light up when charging.

Are you using a USB-A to USB-C cable? (And ideally whatever comes with the torch).

Sometimes USB-C to USB-C doesn't work because the manufacturer skimped on a resistor to trigger 5V.

      • Mate, you are a champ! I did only use USB C to USB C cables, none worked. Using USB A to C works fine.

Thanks heaps!!! I was about to return the torch! you saved me the hassle..

        :)

        • No worries - I have been caught by the same thing before!
