Didn't realise how expensive these lantern batteries have become. I use to only buy these batteries for the Dolphin Eveready Lantern which used a Krypton bulb, then upgraded to a Xenon bulb, then eventually a led bulb, however it poorly reflected the light output.

    • same, the only other use for this battery was for a science project when i was a kid.

This is a literal dinosaur. No device should be running on these anymore.

It blows my mind that these still exist, in the age of olight/sofirn/wurkkos/wuben

  • I only came to know about these today. 1KG Alkaline battery? WTF! I wonder how many AH these are.

    • Quick search, seems like 26AH. - https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/capacity-of-6-volt-lantern-batteries.52407/#:~:text=a%206%20volt%20lantern%20battery,in%20capacity%20(26000%20mah).

I would not even dream of buying one. Am an eneloop fanboi. Probably buy Li-on batteries if i need that much capacity.

        • dolphin torch were their main use https://collection.powerhouse.com.au/object/112369

They were pretty crap but probably the most reasonably priced and reliable torch at the time

Then mag light shapes became more popular, our first one had a quartz? globe and you could actually light up 50m away!

We are spoiled now, we can have torches that fit in our pocket and can easily light up 100-300m away, can choose colour temps, flood type or spot light type

  • Pretty sure these are just 4x D cells inside a case in series to make 6v.
You can get adaptors to do the same thing if you need a battery like this and would prefer to use Ds
