$10.50 at Coles but if you have the Flybuys targeted 10% off its a tad cheaper

Thank op, this should fit the 2 x sandwiches I bring to work for lunch. 👍

  • +23

I give food to my friends in these and they never return it, so I have to keep buying 😂

    Prefer glass over plastic

Prefer solid 24k gold over glass

      • Prefer platinum over solid 24k gold

        • +1

          They sound a bit unpractical.

I choose glass, better than being stuck with Afterpay payments in the thousands to get my gold/platinum container. Lol

          • +1

@Beyond: Oddly specific. I thought not being able to stick gold in the microwave would have been the obvious reason.

        • Prefer Diamond over Platinum.
          Anyway bought one. Thanks OP.

          • @Bandara: Prefer wurtzite boron nitride (w-BN) over diamond, beat that.

    Décor Microsafe

    Décor Microplastics. FTFY.

    Seriously people, use glass 🤦‍♂️

It might cost slightly more, but your health is not important than a few bucks. Yes “this is ozbargain” but somethings are more important than being a “bargain” plus factor in the costs of future health problems.

    • +6

I'm sure people won't die from it but I've got some of each. Glass has it's place and good for storing certain things at home.
Not that ideal in general though - heavier, breakable, too hot to touch from the microwave, more expensive etc.

The main thing with most plastics is ensure they are BPA free and just heat stuff in them, don't eat out of them (can scratch/degrade the surface with cutlery) and replace after a while.

The Ikea glass ones aren't bad with plastic lids.

Who cares? Still better than consuming micro and nano plastics with every meal.

just heat stuff in them, don't eat out of them

Irrelevant. The plastic seps into the food.

        • Who cares? Still better than consuming micro and nano plastics with every meal.

I do, it makes a difference when carrying a few containers home on the bike, weighs a lot more and can't even stack them.
Don't use them for every meal either.

Irrelevant. The plastic seps into the food.

Seps or seeps? What if you don't heat up the contents?
Will need to look at a few actual studies on it. I don't think people have ever died from it - more likely from the food they are eating ironically mate.

          • +1

@G-rig: Huh? If you heat up the plastic in general it seeps into your food. Doesn't matter if you pour it out into a normal bowl afterwards. It's in your food.

Microplastics are dangerous, especially to your hormones.

            • @FallaM: Here we go.. In an ideal world you shouldn't use a mobile phone or sit down at work.
Just ensure BPA free at least. Even cooking with stainless steel has some small seepage. It's a calculated (low risk).

Do you eat red and processed meat? You should worry about that, not the containers you put it in.

Red meat, such as beef, lamb and pork, has been classified as a Group 2A carcinogen
              https://www.cancercouncil.com.au/1in3cancers/lifestyle-choic…

Most of the time just transport salads and stuff in them. These reds arne't the best though, prefer the klip it BPA free containers.

              • +1

                @G-rig: @G-rig

Meat is red herring, completely different topic. Also, substituting plastic food ware for glass and changing non-stick pans for stainless steel is far simpler than changing your diet to avoid red meat.

There is plenty of existing and new evidence that microplastics are both harmful and irreversible from a health perspective. That's a good enough reason for me to prioritise it over other risk factors we could minimise:

@RedSky: Yeah I buy more glass than plastic but half half i guess. The thing is it's a pretty trivial health benefit compared to a lot of other things that people don't care about.

                  • +1

                    @G-rig: @G-rig

I mean, I really don't know how you're evaluating that health cost. I don't see any reason to use any plastic at home when glass / stainless steel is perfectly affordable given what we know already.

              • @G-rig: Get food grade steel boxes, lighter than glass, safer than plastic ;-)

                • -1

@Serious Lee: Rusts and too hard to wash.
I've got enough containers (glass and plastic for different uses.

                  No need to overthink everything.

                  • @G-rig: How would food grade steel rust??? Either you are being ripped off with low quality steel or you are not buying the right product.

This is the same with marine grade steel. Clothes peg made out of it do not rust…

          • +2

@G-rig: They don’t kill you, but take up oestrogen and other sex hormone receptors, and real hormones can’t get through, eventually you’ll have fertility issues if you are lucky to be trying to conceive. Otherwise it won’t show up at all, except you just aren’t attractive to the opposite sex — we are hard wired to pick partners who are fertile, in other words, the ones make you feel it in your pants at first glance, are the ones who have very functional reproductive systems.

Soy does similar things to the body, but to a lesser extent if it’s part of your ancestry diet due to generations of adaptations.

            • @frugalftw: Sounds like anecdotal BS, lost me when you started going on about soy (another myth that gets regurgitated. You'd have to drink like 13L of soy milk a day or more (as it isn't 100% soy). It's actually the opposite, chicken and beer does more destruction to your hormones, but people are happy to ignore that.

How about a few links to back up your claims.

              • -2

@G-rig: To each your own 😇

                • -1

                  @frugalftw: copout ha.
You do you as well, just don't go around making bs claims.

ps. never said i put hot food in them every time either.

Show me a study that says using a plastic container leads to more micro plastics in bloodstream

And more negative effects then a control group

    • +2

They are good for freezing. I would divide up bulk purchased meat and freeze them in those, and sometimes left over meals, even Red Rooster chicken pieces. Everything goes into the air fryer to be reheated, there’s very little room for contamination.

Also doing a detox once in a while doesn’t hurt. Microplastics is not the only thing that needs to come out 😂 There’s a huge list to start with.

  • Unrelated to this item, but does anyone know if Bunnings will price match Amazon?

    • +1

I've had them price match eBay before. Would need to be an Aus seller.

If you don't need the small ones, here's just the 3x 900ml ones for $7.75

  • I use plastic boxes left from big icecream and yoghurt. Free, no harm to nature, and I don't care if it never returns. What's wrong with me?

  • +2

omg i literally use these containers everyday for lunch. They've been getting a little old. thanks for this op

Thanks op. Time to replace some old ones.
