    Hoyts Lie-MAX :(

    • what do you mean?

    • Not sure what he means, but this is from the web page:

State-of-the-Art IMAX® Theatre System at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter, Hoyts Highpoint and Hoyts Carousel!

Maybe there's a difference between regular iMax and Hoyts Imax. And I believe these are the only cinemas the deal applies to.

Well technically hoyts imax is still imax, but the digital technology that hoyts is using limits their screen size to roughly 25% of the screens at imax Sydney or Melbourne.

Garden City (WA) has Xtreme Screen. The only thing extreme about the experience was the rasping speaker at the front which ruined anything with bass.

Yeah there is something seriously wrong with the sound systems at the Garden City Cinemas

  • This works out well, I haven't seen it yet - and was going to wait for DVD.

  • just bought thanks.

The Hoyts IMAX is literally IMAX - I've been to the Carousel one. It's not Xtremescreen or any gimmick like that, just a real huge screen that fills your whole vision. Normally $21+ for a movie so $7 is good value.

  • Wish we still had IMAX in QLD :(

  • Hoyts may call it Imax BUT the 'proper' Imax in melbourne is the one in Carlton, it's the third or fourth(?), biggest screen in the world. We went to see the last Batman movie there, well worth the $30.00 plus per ticket IMO.
I used to go to the Hoyts highpoint cinema, they call Imax the 'old' cinema 6 theatre. My brother and I used to always ask which session the movie we wanted to watch was showing on cinema 6. It used to be the same ticket price, now they've changed the name and the ticket price! (I guess they must have to pay for the right to call it IMAX®, so guess who pays for that in the end).
I never went back there again, Watergardens newer theatres are my choice now.
But for some 'a rose by any other name' or A La Palin/Obama ' you may put lipstick on a pig… it's still a pig'.

plus don't forget for those in Sydney, if you go to the EQ IMAX you have to pay for the ripoff parking as well so you practically double your $7 costs right there…

Everything at EQ is getting so cheap, I get emailed free/VERY Cheap tickets for the comedy store ALL the time because people just don't go there anymore because the parking is such a ripoff..

    • yes, i drove into the EQ and totally forgot about parking (well, i haven't been for say 10 years so I had no idea) BUT then once i DID realise it was a parking lot = ripoff, i drove back outside and found street parking about 3 mins walk away. no hassles except for smelly horse cr*p…

  • Website has been down all morning, same for anyone else?

  • Went y'day. You can buy the tickets at the box office, and save the booking fee. Also, I walked; true OzBargainers don't smoke oil.

Nothing special with IMAX. I swear my Kogan has better image quality. And the sound was loud, but not that impressive either.

    Session was empty! No wonder.
