  • I get that it's hard to find, but $60 as a "bargain" for a 60-year-old movie is just nuts.

It's the kind of thing that might drive people to piracy!

Really don't think your argument stacks up here. There's a thing called vintage collection.

    • FOMO + Hype = Lawrence of Arabia 4K UHD Steelbook 60th Anniversary.

To watch film, instead of keeping sealed: borrow dvd/bluray from public library, cheaper bluray version, purchase/rent from streaming services.

Given its rarity combined with the price being lower than local retail when it was available, I think it’s a fair post.

    Instant purchase for me.

Thanks for post. I got a copy.

  • Missed, back to $170.68

Nope - the deal is for amazon US not AU. I posted the AU link for comparison.

Try the link in the deal.

      • Sorry mate, gotcha!

I've watched this 5 times and only knew of it 10 years ago. Brilliant movie, nothing like it.

I saw it an an independent cinema last year and felt we would be the only ones there beside a few oldies and thought it was strange to be shown in the largest cinema screen onsite. The last time I had seen on it was as a kid on double VHS decades prior.

The cinema was packed forty five minutes beforehand with mostly teens to thirty years old. It was epic watching the 70mm version and to have younger generations, whom had not had the chance to see it in the large format years ago and mostly grew up with sequel blockbusters, was simply wonderful.

The film stands in a class of its own including the making of documentaries in YouTube and there will never be a film like it ever again.

    • The negs are so stupid. You're not allowed to ask for thoughts or have alternative opinions on this site, you know??

They shot this in 70mm (8K)

    • +1

You must have asked the equivalent question when they remastered it for DVD and Blu-ray…

I wonder what you would think if you stumbled across it on a streaming service: "They had superfast internet back then?!"

    • Star Wars: Attack of the Clones was shot in 1080p but has been released in 4K.

70mm film is peak Hollywood film stock. If the film stock is well preserved, I would expect it to hold up under 8K digital transfers.

  • Can the blu ray be played on Australian players?

    • +2

No region coding on 4K UHD. Not sure about the BluRay.

I'll be ripping from a portable player.

The description on amazon says "Region Free Discs – Playable worldwide on all compatible players."

  • Is this version different to the one sold at JBH?

    • According to the website, they only sell the DVD. The 4K was not released locally.
The Blu-ray is most likely OOP.

  • Just bought it due to the rave reviews. I hope it's worth it, most expensive single disc I've purchased.

  • I wonder if youngsters would enjoy Twelve Angry Men?

    • Or Ben Hur.

The soundtrack alone is awesome. And none of that green screen shit fir the chariot race.

  • Mine was defected, the first 3 minutes was just a black screen.

  • This was one of the first movies I bought when I got my original DVD player around the turn of the century with a 32” flat screen CRT TV (along with The Guns of Navarone, Magnificent Seven, etc.) Looking forward to watching it in 4K finally.

Just hope Amazon US pack it properly, I’ve had to return broken CD cases before because they didn’t use any protective packaging at all.
