Prescription- Pariet 20mg

Hi Guys

My GP prescribed the above tablet for my severe acid reflux, I need to get at least 5 repeats of 30 tablets. Checked chemist warehouse and it's about $28.95 for 30 tablets (this is PBS price).

I am wondering if anyone knows where else I can go to look for cheaper price than $28.95? Been sick a lot lately and spent lots on medical expenses.

  • Don't think you can get much cheaper than that.

Pensioners can get their meds at much cheaper rates, if you know one that "uses" this :P (don't recommend this option at all though)

    • LOL, thought about this but don't know any seniors. I am thinking maybe go to the nursing home and befriend one of them :D

      • Isn't there still a PBS safety net for when you go over a certain amount?

        [edit] Hmm, maybe not…

        General patients $1363.30
        Concession card holders $348.00

        …that's a shitload of PPI's! ;)

Pharmacy Direct has a multi buy discount, you will have to send the prescription to them if you dont live near Silverwater NSW

    Free postage over $99

    Hope this helps

    • Thanks for that. It is slightly cheaper than chemist warehouse, will consider getting from them :)

  • I know this does not help you but did you know that this prescription would cost less than $4 in India or a similar third world country? Surely they are not making a loss selling the drug there. For this price you get a trusted brand product just as good as Pariet.
The price difference cannot be attributed just to better quality control or labour. The drug companies are making a killing….

Does it have to be Pariet? Perhaps ask your GP if you could try cheaper brands like Nexium or Somac (cheapest of PPIs I've seen).

Note that Pariet has been known to cause dry mouth (personal exp, online research and noted on leaflet), so if you don't have much saliva already you may wish to ask your GP for another brand. Link to leaflet: http://www.mydr.com.au/medicines/cmis/pariet-tablets

    HTH and good luck

  • Thou shall not dole. And yes it is a five-r only.

  • The cheapest PPI for your equivalent dosage is always going to be your stock standard omeprazole, at $20.14 for a pack of 30 20mg tablets.

  • Thanks everyone for the advice!!

I went to the pharmacist earlier today and was told I can only get pariet because that's what's on my prescription and apparently there's no generic for pariet too.

Also found out I am not allowed to get NO more than 30 tablets each time as per my prescription. No chance of getting multi buy/bulk discount then :(

Oh well, I'll just get them from chemist warehouse for now- cheapest I could find offline.

    • Just go to any GP and ask for another script for a different or generic PPI; as NimitzHarrington & fermium said, there's plenty of drugs in the same class that are cheaper & just as effective.

      • dont come to me - i'm not sure I would give you what you want…
if you have "severe reflux" (without any known underlying cause) then 60 days max on something like 40mg of nexium/somac should be enough to settle things down - If you couldn't wean youself off after that then I would probably be sending you off for a test for h pylori or off to the gastro (specialist) to consider a scope.

but without knowing the full history and examining you it's probably not my place to comment..

if pain persists - see your doctor! :P

Yeah, for long term use, one would presume that we're talking here about a properly diagnosed (gastro) chronic hyperacidic condition like ZE syndrome or underlying GORD pathology like sliding HH or LES failure; requiring ongoing PPI therapy where heal with steel (fundo) is contraindicated for some reason. This is just about getting the already prescribed class of drug cheaper for the OP! ;)

          show off :P

not arguing with you stewy - just…
          1. from his post i am not convinced he is in the situation you most beautifully described.
          2. in my limited experience - conformity to guidelines or pbs restrictions when it comes to ppi prescribing is not something all gps are good at

        • conformity to guidelines or pbs restrictions when it comes to ppi prescribing is not something all gps are good at

That, we most definitely agree on! :)

        • I am a "She" btw :(

Sorry lusicul, I don't think there's any prescription drugs available for that condition! ;)

i'm surprised you didnt give her a lecture on # risk….

but a rather witty comment none the less

Too late for risk factors, that there be a congenital disorder! ;)

We can, however, discuss a suitable management plan for poor lusicul's chronic feminitis! :p

unfortunately that's a condition with 100% mortality and treatment is merely supportive. CBT and retail therapy may provide some symptom relief but sadly monthly exacerbations are refractory to all known medical therapy ;)

        • Always chuck in involving the biopsychosocial model of healthcare for bonus marks ;) Narrative therapy ftw :)

        • Mmm, now we're being truly holistic…we got us a mighty fine multidisciplinary team right here! :)

        • and always involve family and friends: tell her her bum doesn't look fat in (insert garment), tds + prn as many times as required" :)

qn from the OT - "what's my role in this one"…. (and no basket weaving jokes)

        • Always room for the music therapist as well…lol

Especially when she hogs the chart for an hour to write 2 illegible pages about her "progress" with the patient. FML

  • Search ebay for Kirkland Omeprazole..similar PPI.

    Crazy price delivered.

    • Isn't this Costco's own brand? I will give Costco Docklands a call and see if they stock them. Cheers

      • Yup. Not sure you'd be able to find it locally though as in those quantities it would be prescription only S4.

But yeah importing it at that price is awesome, its pretty close to our wholesale for generic omeprazole :P

  • there is a generic for pariet on the market.. some chemists stock it.. i know my chemist does and it even comes from the same company as the original brand.

  • Don't think you can get much cheaper than that.
