Was looking for some ram to upgrade my old Alienware and Macbook, found this deal which will be give a tasty 8GB upgrade each, perfect for an extra kick of performance.

I noticed that 4GB / 8GB variants aren't able to be sent to an Australian address, but 16GB can; so it's probably a mistake, but I made the order a couple of days ago and I received a notification email saying it had been sent out.

Cheapest I could find it in Australian stores was $110 delivered, so a pretty good bargain in my books!

  • 1333mhz

    • Shouldn't be a problem. Only sandy bridge i7's can run above 1333mhz

      Good price

sorry but your wrong, most AMD cpu / apu's will work better with 1666mhz or 1866mhz ++

        • This is SODIMM, most likely going to go in laptops than mini itx boards…

          you don't say??
AMD laptops have APU / CPU's in them…. sigh, think I know considering I own a AMD A8 3530MX powered laptop! And with 1666mhz you can see gains 5-10%… check the forums!

youre wrong by saying only I7 use faster ram by the way

Yes, Krisspy is incorrect. But shouldn't be negged for pointing out this is laptop memory (for the less technically aware).

It used to be that (for desktop at least) i3 processors would only utilise 1333mhz memory (no idea what it is now).

But I believe that AMD CPUs (in laptops) are 1600mhz max, and I think all 3rd Gen Intels are capable of 1600mhz. Best to check your model of CPU first.

Is 5-10% worth the expense? You may install it and have zero increase in performance. Definitely worthwhile if you're upgrading from 4GB or similar though.

        • It's the same with Intel if you want faster integrated graphics but the difference isn't that huge.

Skip the delivery time and buy local for the same price. http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=16gb+ddr3+s…

  • will this work in my macbook pro (2.4Ghx intel core 2 duo)
    It says i have 1067Mhz DDR3
I have no idea if i should buy this

    • i bought the same ram for my mbp, build is April 2010, same cpu as yours and its not compatible, cant be sure if yours would be the same, im keeping the ram for a future laptop wotever it may be.

    • with most of the macs nowadays , you need to get RAM that specifically says its MAC compatible because the CLi speeds vary and are marginally different which will make them non-compatible….

      • You don't need to get "Mac compatible RAM". I always buy what ever RAM from MSY that matches the minimum specifications. RAM needs to be the same type and no lower clock speed than what it comes with.

I've upgraded a coupe generations of Mac mini, MacBooks, MacBook Pros without any issues.

At the end of the day Macs use the same intel chipsets as found in PCs.

  • Any idea if this will work in a Dell XPS 17?

8GB with a couple of VMs and an IDE can struggle.

  • i just bought a 2 8gb 1600 Mhz from MSY for 69 and that was their normal price so i dont see how this is a bargain

    • Can I have the link?.. I'm interested…

    • Hmm not sure why your comparing desktop memory to laptop memory like this stuff from amazon is!

  • I just want 1 X 8G and there is no option for this…
whats wrong with you amazon!!! T_T

  • If anybody want to sell their old 2 x 4GB DDR3 SO DIMM, let me know please..

    • I'll let you know as soon as I've got my 16gb kit?…

  • .

  • Did the price go up? I was charged $70 aussie with shipping.
