Apple Watch with Android Phone to Track Steps, Sleeps, etc for AIA Vitality

Hi all,

I have around $480 worth of apple giftcard (from buying Macbook Air M3) that I can use.

Since my partner and I recently joined AIA Vitality, I've been thinking to buy an Apple Watch SE for her.
The thing is, she is using Android (Oppo) phone (I'm using Apple watch + iPhone)

Do you think this will be a problem for her to track her steps by connecting Apple Watch SE to an Android phone (for AIA Vitaility tracking)?

OR best to sell the giftcard and get Android smartwatch instead?

Thank you in advance

  • You need the Apple Health app installed on your phone in order to link it with AIA Vitality, and if that's not available on your non-Fruit phone, then you basically have no hope of even retrieving the health data from the watch to the mobile. The health metricss will only be stored on the watch.

  • +1

You could get a $99 iPhone from Coles and keep it at home. No need to ditch android.
Just use the iphone for watch related purposes, no SIM needed.

The watch will connect to wifi while out, including your Android hotspot. So you can get some notifications too.

This is not a crazy idea. IMHO the Apple watch is better than any other. But I prefer Android phones.

    • You can get an iPhone for $99 from Coles? Please give me a link on that. You also need a phone that will be iOS upgradeable for a while to keep in step with the watch.

The watch will happily keep working even if you don't run the latest IOS.

        • A refurbished iPhone 8. That probably is a reasonable option. It should give compatibility for another couple of years of iOS upgrades.

        • oh wow! didn't know I can get that cheap iphone….

          Thank you, great idea indeed!

  • I’ve been thinking… can apple watch health sync with an iPad? As the kid has one…. Hmmmm
