I have these exact boots, wore them through the German/Netherlands winter at the beginning of the year and it was fantastic. Well impressed for the price I have to say.

    • +1

      Narrow or wide fitting?

      • I think its a narrow fit, but I have wide feet and orthotics, I bought one size up and they fit perfectly.

        • +1

Thanks for that, i use orthotics and buy wide runners as well.

  • +1

These are great boots, just replace the shoelaces as these always come undone.

    • +2

Always have to double up. This seems to happen to my Salomon's a lot…

Oh wow - Never knew about this.

      • Berluti knot works well too.
        Also looks nice.

Same as usual but you pass both the bunny ears around each other instead of just one.

  • Do they ever add more stock over the course of a sale? Or is that it?

    • When I got my Moab's on a crazy deal, they added more stock later & I let someone else know to get some

    • I've bought them and exchanged them for a different size once the sale was over before. Didn't have any issues.

Fantastic boots, completed the Everest Base Camp trek with them last month! Love the eyelets (side hooks) in particular, they make fixing laces in place so convenient!

    • Do you have to be fit to do EBC or can most people do it? How tough was it?

      • +7

Most people can do it! Saw peeps of all sizes & ages on the trek. Of course, you'll want to do some training prior as it'll go a long way. It is physically and mentally exhausting as it's 12-14 days of trekking. We just walked/jogged up and down lots of steps a couple weeks before and it really helped.

But what you can't prepare for is the altitude. We had some sickness above 5000m, so bring panadol and diamox just in case. There were a few peeps who had to turn back due to severe altitude sickness, but only a handful amongst the hundreds of others we trekked past.

Feel free to DM if you want more deets/booking suggestions.

        • Word of advice if going to Everest. Do not read Into Thin Air beforehand!

        • I felt pretty bad at 4000 m. Can't imagine 5

          • @belongsinforums: I liken it to being awake for 40 hours, having a few pints of beer, taking a nap in the sun, and then trying to wake up. The heaviness of it all whacks you something crazy.

      • Most people would be able to do it at their own pace. Being younger, my friend and I usually reached the next pitstop within 4-5 hours of hiking, but theres plenty of time to hike within a day at your own pace.

  • Is this model exclusive to Anaconda?

    • +2

These models that Anaconda sell on discount appear to be outlet exclusive models - if you search for them, you might find them pop up on random discount/outlet sites around the world (never on regular retail footwear stores).

My guess is they are "made for outlet" models, made with cheaper materials/structure and/or with lower quality control than their main line models that they sell directly and through regular footwear stores.

FWIW, I've bought 2 pairs (one for my father and one for my wife), and I think they are fine for what they are (and at the "discounted" price). I wouldnt pay the "retail" price, and would not be under any illusion that they are worth that much. If you think of them as a $90 hiking boot, I think they are fine. YMMV.

  • had my salomon shoes for nearly 10 years and there's a hole now in the side that isn't unusable but is pretty well beyond repair.. just bought another.

You must be fun at parties…

What is happening over there is terrible, I agree.

However by engaging in this boycott and such comments, you are suggesting because the original founders of the Spotlight group had parents that immigrated from Israel many many years ago in 1956 (68 years ago according to the articles), they must somehow be connected to Israel the country's actions and have influence over them today? - is there any evidence of this?

I could stand to be corrected, but if not, what I see is a family that wanted to get out of Israel and start a life free of conflict for their kids in Australia in a country that hopefully accepts multiculturalism and freedom of religion, and I would hope we can avoid bringing all that B.S. here.

So the other thing I see by participating in this anti-Jew boycott where the articles stated things like "agitators calling for a ban of stores owned by Jews" is you are facilitating racial / religious stereotyping, which makes you part of the problem. In fact, in sounds more like something Hitler would have come up with.

Yes Australia should put pressure on Israel to clean up their act. I realise it is difficult being powerless and we want to try and feel like we are doing something to help the dire situation in Palestine. However I do not think that starts with targeting non-politically associated Jews in our own country - if that is what they are? Maybe donate to some aid worker charities with the money saved on these boots.

The sooner everyone starts treating each other with respect, the better.

Note: I have no skin in the game, no race or religious connections to either side, so I can't begin to understand how difficult it must be - I have over the years befriended people of both Jewish and Islamic backgrounds - they are all people and wish them the best to get access to a better life. If they have managed to do so, let's not punish them here.

      • +1

That said, businesses who willingly contribute to the IDF and zionist lobby groups are absolutely worth boycotting.

Its just important not to start pretending that all Israelis, support the wholesale destruction being carried out (as you said more eloquently).

        • +6

potentially - like I said above, is there any evidence of actual questionable actions, or are they just targeted based on race / religion, the latter of which I cannot support.
I for example, do not always support all the actions our government takes, but also shouldn't be forced to take sides, because in many cases neither side has all the answers, and usually both have done bad things.

      • +2

I know this is an expired deal but just wanted to say I think you write really well.

        But….

Just wanted to note being anti-zionist should not be equated with being antisematic or racist. And a lot of the hysteria from newscorp etc has seemingly attempted to do that.

Based on the little I know, I DON'T think boycotting spotlight etc is justified or a clever idea. However, it isn't just about the people who started it being Jewish. It's about the POSSIBLE financial and political support that the group of companies may be providing.
The spotlight foundation that the company supports does have some specific Zionism focussed ambitions within it's mission statements etc. In addition to which it supports broader charitable causes. It's president, Jeremy Leibler, is also the president of the Zionist Federation of Australia.
So, it's not completely unreasonable to suggest that some of the dollars you give to the Spotlight Group may indirectly support a situation that has lead to, and continues to encourage, a government that can justify displacement and termination of people that are in the way of it's vision of what a Jewish Homeland should entail.

Like I said, I don't think boycotting them is a great idea. But I worry that people who question the Zionist mission and it's financial and political backers are increasingly being tarred with the "antisemitism" / this is how it was in early Nazi Germany type of brush.

        • +1

          Thank you for the information.

I objected to some of the language I saw in articles like I mentioned above "agitators calling for a ban of stores owned by Jews" - however there is potential the media has a lot of answer for in some of these situations (as you note with the likes of newscorp), it may be they are focusing on one thing to sensationalise it and intentionally omitting other details that don't fit their narrative (The problem with media integrity these days - well actually, the media and its control has always been one of the most powerful tools in a war really).

And yes, I have also noticed that people who probably do deserve constructive criticism such as politically associated Israeli Ambassadors, Spokespersons and the likes tend to hide behind labelling anyone who criticise the government's actions as racist / antisemitic a bit too quickly, whereas perhaps it isn't always so.

It's a difficult one - there hasn't been a magical solution in many decades now. It's desperately needed rather than perpetuating the cycle of violence.

  • Are these any good as snow boots?

    • +1

      Nope, hiking only

    • +3

No insulation and the outer layer would suck in water and then freeze making your toes go numb even faster.
It is OK to cross a snowfield quickly on otherwise dry mountain hike in warmer months but it is not suitable for snow hiking.
You want something with thermal insulation and an outer material that does not absorb a ton of water (GoreTex is always only on the inside of the shoes, it does not stop the outer material from getting soaked. This applies to any GoreTex garment.)

      • Reckon these are good for something like the Overland Track? If I step into a puddle of water without fully submerging my foot, will my feet get wet?

        • Nah, you will be fine. It is Ok to submerge the shoes quite deep. The membrane goes to the top. You will stay dry inside but the shoe will feel cool as the outsole will get wet.

The problem with GoreTex is that if you get water inside or sweat a lot they will take forever to dry from the inside.
That is why some people prefer non-water proof shoes for multi-day treks.

For day hikes in the wet these are good.

      • Outerlayer is completely waterproof from personal experience, but yeah no good for snow as the tongue is not attached so if you go into snow more than an inch deep water will get in.

        • What do you mean tongues is not attached? They have a gusseted tongue, no? All Gore-tex shoes do as far as I know.
But if you squeeze the snow in it might press water through the membrane.

          • @goodwillN1: I am no expert on shoes so happy to take your word for it on that, I just know that as soon as water gets to that tongue section on the top of your foot water will find its way in from there, not talking at the entrance of the shoe but right down the bottom where the tongue begins. As long as you don't let water/snow get onto the top of your boot you should be sweet though, I was actually quite impressed with how deep I could take it.

            • @doobey1231: Not claiming to be an expert either BTW.
The silvery thing on the inside is the GoreTex membrane. If manufactured correctly it should create an impenetrable pouch around your foot. If you are saying the water is getting through somewhere where that silver pouch is pinched then there is either a hole in the membrane or when the water gets pressed in there and compressed it gets pushed through the membrane (all of these membranes can only withstand a specific water pressure, usually measured in water column x thousand millimeter high)

    • I use these when staying at the snow as good grip, but they aren't warm. Feel safer in these than normal shoes when staying at snow though in Australia.
When overseas ( minus 20)used a well known brand fluffy snow/ outdoor boot, they were warm but heel moved about heaps so not great if you had to do a few km of walking.

  • Legend, thankyou! Good timing as my old Merrel Moab boots were wearing out, so I'll give these a go at this price.

  • No size 14

  • Was looking for Salomon hiking boots for a while now. Bought for myself and missus. Great deal!

  • Check the sizing because a bit different to most shoe brands. Bought us11 and actually equivalent to a UK 10.5.

    • +2

I think US and UK always have about a full size difference. Nothing to do with the shoe brand, thats just the standard sizing conversion between countries.

Best thing is to throw out any of these countries "standard" sizes and base your purchase off the centimeter rating which is the length of your foot. Anaconda size guide shows the conversion e.g size 11 US is 29 CM.

Good idea with hiking boots is to size up a half or full size as you will likely be wearing thicker socks, and your feet will naturally expand when walking due to blood flow. You can also easily add in extra padding or insole if it's too big, much harder to make the shoe larger!

I normally wear US 11 (29cm) but buy 11.5 (29.5cm) in hiking boots which are much more comfortable to account for thicker socks and an additional padded insole.

      • yeah had a look at size guide after posting. In the chart, the only thing that differs is 10.5 uk. I started using cm for another reason and my size is right, but freaked me out on receiving.

    • Its actually pretty true to size, UK and US sizing are different in their own right

  • Shame they don't have different width fittings …

  • I bought these last deal and found them far too hot for summer hiking, but otherwise very happy with them

  • +2

    you know about gore-tex?

    • +1

You like saying gore-tex don't ya?

  • Need a good deal on hiking poles

  • Nice ~
Ordered a pair to try. First time buying this brand

  • Bought one to try, thanks !

  • What if they don't fit properly? Can you return to an Anaconda store and swap with a different size if unused?

  • Thanks OP, ordered a pair. Recently starting dating a chick that is into hiking, she'll love my enthusiasm by buying these!

    • +6

Should buy her a pair too, then you and her can be sole mates.

      • Anaconda date, in store and at home.

  • Bought them, didnt need them. Not even sure what this"hiking" is about. They will do well for yard work and all that diy work.

  • I find them very uncomfortable compared to runners ,
feels like they have used cardboard as support ,
I’d rather hike in work boots.
Oh and I almost forgot ,
    Death to America !!

  • order just got cancelled :(

    • What size did you order?

      • Size 12

  • +1

Not sure about these ones but in the past I know Anaconda has had Salomon shoes on sale for a similar price, but they were an exclusive model and don’t feel as well made as the mainstream models. I do love my XA Pro 3D GTX though. Great for hiking and trail running.

  • +1

virtually no sizes left. Only 1 size available.

  • High quality shoes that once not made in china, think they're made in Europe somwhere

  • Damn my order of mens size 10.5 got cancelled… frustrating

  • Order cancelled

  • US11 still available

  • Cancelled my order and ordered quite early after it got posted

  • They cancelled my order as well.

  • Order cancelled.. US11

  • Received, comfy, thanks OP!

  • After they cancelled my order, the original amount was refunded, but then they charged double. Talked on the phone, they couldn't confirm, is anyone having the same issue?
