Purchased Scoopons Vouchers $250 for 6 Whale Watching - no availabilty to use vouchers but can't get a refund from Scoopons

Purchased 6 Whale Watching vouchers from Scoopons for $250 http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/16912/ultimate-three-hours-w…
on 5 September, to be activated 12/09 and booked by 05/10 - could only book online and all availability was already taken as could only be used weekends. Telephoned company which is recorded message telling you to use online booking. Emailed on online booking page but no response. Went to Scoopons to get a refund as vouchers don't run out until 2/12 and they say I cannot get a refund but say I can transfer the vouchers to someone else (I emailed back to say how will that help, if I can't use them how can someone else?) They also suggested that due to the popular past-time to book early…..again have explained that I try to book after voucher was activated and how can you book if there is no availability and cannot contact the company. I feel I have been mis-sold these vouchers and now want to use them before 2/12 or a full refund what else can I do?

  • Make sure you take screenshots showing the booking is full. Also save your copies of emails sent before booking date cutoff.

Try a formal complaint through ADMA.

Alternatively, just initiate a credit card chargeback.

  • I had a similar experience with groupon or scoopon, can't remember which. You can only contact these companies via email and I didn't get a response back for 2 weeks.
I realised that you get tossed back and forth between the promoters and the company offering the product.
I finally gave up that course of action. Fortunately I paid through paypal and put in a claim. Whammo the money was back in my account in 2 days!
My advice with these kind of companies, if you want some recourse, is to pay with paypal, otherwise its going to be a hard battle.
Please note I'm not affiliated with paypal.

  • Scoopon wouldn't refund me until I opened a complaint with Fair Trading. Once I had a complaint number they offered credit or a refund.

  • Thanks for replies the screenshot idea was a good idea unfortunately as it had to be booked within a time frame that no longer applies but will definitely take that on board if there is a next time. Have now put it in hands of my bank who say they will try and recoup money as paid on my credit card, but if not then I will go down route of Fair Trading. Also I didn't know about paypal so again thanks will be opening an account to pay for things that way.

  • Dispute it with your credit acrd AND file complaint with ADMA.
