The 196 peach is horrible compared to the kirin, nasty aftertaste.

Prefer the double lemon in -196. A good lemon taste. Never bough the peach.

In Japan, I buy cheap lemon Strong @9%. So buying lemon here brings back memories.
Hitchhiking in Hokkaido, was offered a small can of lemon Strong. Pulled out a 500ml can. Young couple was surprised - we just laughed for rest of trip.

Pre-mix gets a $1 a can tax on top of regular alcohol taxes so there is your half of the price difference. Same as Seltzer, when I lived in the US, White Claw was $10 for 10
A 700ml bottle of Nikka Black Whisky is like $70-$99 here, while a 3l bottle in a Japanese supermarket is $25. Everything here is taxed heavily.
Consumption Tax in Japan increased quite a few years back. Alcohol used to be even cheaper!
Took rice farmer friend there a bottle of whiskey from 'Duty Free'. Found cheaper & better whiskey at supermarkets there!!
He asked me to send him cigarettes due to tax increase. He simply couldn't believe how expensive they are here - due to excise & tax. Suggested it was a good time to cut back on smoking.
Hard to compare the two, these cans are made in Australia.
In Australia, we have a $69 tax per litre of pure alcohol on rtd products. Plus GST plus 18c can deposit in NSW
High labour costs, economies of scale and mostly tax and excise working against the Aussie drinker.
I wish it was $69/L! That number would be from over a decade ago as it gets indexed twice a year in line with inflation, the current rate is a whopping $101.85/L for spirits, so on these 6% 330ml cans it's $2.02 on alcohol excise alone, add on GST, can refund schemes and you can see why $3/can is a decent deal
That’s ridiculously high, all these taxes must really hurt our domestic and international tourism industry. Everyone flying elsewhere because Australia tax is crazy high.
