TP-Link Deco M5 Internet Works via Ethernet but No Wi-Fi and Solid Red Lights

I am using a Deco M5 mesh system and recently upgraded my NBN plan from 50/20 to 100/20 on an HFC connection with my service provider. I have four Deco units spread throughout my home, all set up as access points and working well.

However, since the upgrade, I have been experiencing issues with my Deco mesh system. The internet works when a device is connected to a Deco unit via Ethernet cable, but the Deco app shows "devices offline" and no internet access. Other devices cannot connect to the Wi-Fi, and the Deco units show a solid red light.

Restarting the Deco units temporarily resolves the issue, but it reoccurs after a day.

I am unsure if this is a hardware or software issue and would appreciate any assistance in resolving it.

A speed change doesn't mess with your Wi-Fi. Do you have another router plugged into the nbn NTD or is one of the Deco's plugged into the nbn NTD?

I was thinking same thing. Check all units have updated firmware. Otherwise take the router back and exchange. Or buy a new one?

    • I have got the Huawei Hg 659 modem that is plugged into the NBN box and then I have connected the Deco M5 via Ethernet from the Huawei modem and connected is at an access point .

      • Is there any reason you are using the Huawei? Are you using a VoIP phone service from your ISP?

        • Exactly that , had to use the voip phone service otherwise I would plug the deco directly to the NBN box

          • @Sunnyoz: Do a factory reset all of the Deco's and update the firmware. If the Wi-Fi problem persists after that there might be a hardware problem.

      • Remove the Huawei and try from there
Worst case just get an ata adapter if u need VoIP

        • Hey mate thanks for your reply do you know what is ata adapter ? Can it be connected to the DECO M5 mesh as I will need the voip/phone line for work purposes.

          • @Sunnyoz: It's an adapter that plugs into the Deco ethernet port and your phone plugs into the adapter. Alternatively you can setup a VoIP softphone app on your computer or mobile phone. You have to port your number from TPG to a different supplier like Siptalk.

First factory reset all of the Deco's, configure Deco as your access points and update the firmware.

            • @Twix: Cheers mate , won’t be able to change the service provider so will have to stick with TPG and won’t be able to setup up a voip soft phone app as works doesn’t allows , do you know any particular ata that is not too dear and can be plugged in the deck m5 ?

@Sunnyoz: TPG VoIP is locked to their modem/router. Purchasing your own ATA won't work for TPG.

                • @Twix: Ah ok , makes sense so there is no work around then I guess ?have to stick to their modem/router

@Sunnyoz: Yeah you have to use TPGs modem/router. Report back in a couple days after you sort out the Deco.

Just reinstall them. Do a factory reset (there is a little button on the bottom you push until the light starts flashing - blue I think and then wait until its solid blue - anyway the app tells you). Add them back one at a time through the app. It only takes a few minutes per module. Have had to do this myself when I had some cabling added to my house, doesnt make sense but thats just tech for you.

    • Thanks mate does that mean I have to reset/input the Wifi user name/password again as I have over 10-15 wifi devices and I am a bit worried if I do a hard reset I might have already to reset input the password in all of those devices

      • yes you will have to redo the password on all your devices. you can use the same password and even same wifi name, but generally you still need to put them in again. It can be a bit of a pain but less pain than having no working wifi. Most of the time eg laptops, phones its only a few seconds of work. Solar or cameras etc is a bit more effort

      • If you set the SSID & password to the ones you're using, all the devices will be able to connect to it as if nothing has happened.

  • In the Deco app, you may need to set which deco it connects to. auto may not always pick the strongest signal/change throughout the day.
