    Do white cards go faster?

    • +5

Only if they have RGB lights.

    • +4

      Eurobeat makes everything goes faster.

We are running in the 90s~~!!!

    • +12

Trust me, I wish my brain didn't care how my setup looked.
I would've saved $300-400 on non white parts

      • +1

Care to share your build? I'm heading down the same aesthetically pleasing route!

        • +3

You can do what I did. Solid side panel. PC on the floor. Then you only need to care about the case and peripherals/monitor. Although good luck with the monitor too.

          • @ATangk: This is what I currently have. Solid side panels, sitting on the floor, out of view, and will keep it that way. I still want the new build to be all white, even if it's not on "display" all the time.

The monitors are sorted already with the White LG models, although it's only the back panel that is white, not the bezel, and stands (athough of course we have OZBs favourite white BN monitor arms keeping the desk nice and clear).

        • Just my input: combined white and black builds also work and can really save you a bit by not limiting you to a white card (this one's great but the "tuf" wording and military stuff may be an acquired taste).

My build is a white Torrent, which has black fans, Noctua U12a Chromax with white heatsink cover, black mobo and white Dominator ram. If your gpu's black, you could add white cables, though this Tuf I'm sure would look great. Everything was purchased on sale so I could balance cost and looks (to my liking at least).

      • I have the Tesla Model 3 with white interior. It costs 1500$ extra if you buy new but honestly it's so pretty. White stuff is just so nice.

        • Does the white stain more than the black?

          • @McOzbargainer: Nope it stays clean surprisingly easily. It gets a bit blue from my jeans sometimes but a damp cloth wipes it right off.

To be fair though I don't have pets or kids. But I do live in a dirt road and eat in the car every day. I'm addicted to McDonald's ice cream.

    Dodgy Asus with the discounts…

    • +3

Its ok, you are dealing with Centrecom with warranty, but then again, I am not sure how Centrecom warranty/ after-sales service like…

      • +6

Pretty poor, they try to get out of everything. Centrecom for cheaper no frills purchasing, PC Case Gear if you need after sales / warranty support. I contacted PCCG about a motherboard I had that failed like 6 months after the warranty on it ended and they asked for it to be sent in and then actually sent me a full refund on my purchase price.

        • +2

Which year was this PCCG experience from? Heard they got bought out and went down the drain recently.

          • @xrailgun: Was ages ago, pre-buy out. I guess things might've changed by now. Not sure who gives good aftersale service these days.

      • +2

I can share some insight, used to work there. It's pretty bad services cause it takes awhile and in most cases deny them. When you drop your faulty product in and you ask for a refund, they have to test it first which takes 5-10 business days, not an instant refund/replacement. The tech who tests and RMA vary from branch to branch so depends who you go to, but they all require taking it in and testing it. If anyone has a ticket to the Nunawading storewide sale can get 15% further as well on this as they have to honour site prices

        • What do you mean about the Nunawading store? They have an extra sale?

        • How do you get tickets to storewide sales?

          • @Agret: It was on Eventbrite. I went to the sunshine one but they didn't scan my QR code seems like they don't check properly. I can't say the same for Nunawading though.

    305mm. Nice.

  • +4

    Hodl for next gen.

    • +7

Granted we are a bit far away from a 5070 series release.
At the earliest, we can expect an announcement at Computex next month with deliveries for the 5080 and potentially the 5090 series in Q4 of this year, with 5070 series releases expected in Q1 or Q2 2025.

      • +8

Yeah the 5070 is quite far away, and not like it'll be priced at anywhere near $1k so I just went with this

      • I heard that 5080 will be released earlier than the planned schedule.

        • There is new estimation of September-October which is at the very end of Q3 and the start of Q4.

          • +1

@AircraftFreight: Apparently it is due to the 5090 having some issues

Also nvidia really wants to sell to the chinese market
which only the 5080 is USA sanction compliant / approved card.

  • +2

I'd love to see some 4080 deals. They just don't seem to budge.

    • +1

Yeh gunna be waiting til 50 series is almost upon us, I reckon

      • +1

40 series have been somewhat of a dud especially the who 4060 debacle
only 4090 had the biggest improvement based on the price..

if the 5080 is like the 4090 then that would be good
though nvidia will still want big bucks

  • +2

5080 will be released later this year, or maybe announced next month in CompuCom

  • +1

is it worth finding till eofy and the computex next month?

  • +1

Do it at your own risk… But it's really easy to disconnect the fan shroud and spray it white. Obviously your fans will still be black but I think it's a fine look.

This is still a good deal, no hate for op.

    • Yeah I've considered that, but was worried I'd do a shit job and it'll look awful. Also, didn't seem worth voiding the warranty hah

      • +3

didn't seem worth voiding the warranty hah

That's correct, Asus will deny because you tempered the looks, and probably quote you for a replacement for the shroud.

        • +5

Warranty concern probably pretty legit thing to worry about but, I'm a terrible crafts person and did it on my old 2080ti (back when it was probably nearing the end of its warranty) and was happy with results.

          https://imgur.com/a/aoU63VN

My logic was, if I needed to make a warranty claim then I'd just soak the shroud in something to dissolve the paint.

          • @Assburg: That looks fantastic!

          • @Assburg: that looks really good

Is it possible to take the fans off and also spray paint it?

However I do like the black fans look better
since it stand out and nice contrast with the white shroud
rather than make the fan also white which would look boring

            • @pinkybrain: I wouldn't paint the fans on the basis that spray paint could get in between the qmoving parts and create friction, and the additional weight of the paint on the blades would mess with the balance and stress the motors more.

If you were going to pay the premium to buy a white GPU, or look at replacing fans to get all white, I'd probably just start looking at a water cooling block for the GPU instead.

      • +1

Have you also consider just getting white contact paper?
You can peel it off if you need to do a warranty claim

Yeah I've considered that, but was worried I'd do a shit job and it'll look awful. Also, didn't seem worth voiding the warranty hah

try practice spray paint on some other non important items
till you get the hang of it..
        also watch youtube tutorials..

The key is to go lightly when spray painting to prevent blobs.

Also, didn't seem worth voiding the warranty hah

wait till your warranty is expired.

  • +2

I have waited this long, may as well wait longer.

  • Quick question: If I already got a 3080 should I get this or HODL for 4080 or even 5080? I saw the benchmark 4070Ti is about 28% faster than 3080, is it real? Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance!

    • +4

hold dude, the 40 series is faster than the 30 series, the 50 series should be faster than both. Not long now, announcements should be next month.

      • +1

Thanks mate, yeah was thinking about upgrade to 40 from 30 series but just feeling not really needed.

    • +1

Depends, if your favorite title supports DLSS 3 then it can be a 80%+ bump in performance, otherwise your looking at around 20% with less power consumption.
I would suggest a 4070 ti super not a 4070 super as a better option, but even on sale, I don't see the value.
      Wait for the 50 series.

  • Well priced tbh. Strix cards do carry $70-100 premium because of the superior cooling. RMA though on the other hand…

  • +1

Warning they dont accept GPU return in any form. Even the one still in a sealed box

  • +1

Sorry, nice deal but tech Jesus told us to boycott Asus

    https://youtu.be/7pMrssIrKcY?si=bs8Rx3K2gIJzSNnt

    • That's fine, can you give a tldw pls?

      • tl;dw: they are scummy when it comes to warranty and after purchase support

      • the video is not that long to watch..
and will keep more in depth knowledge of how bad Asus is as a company

    • +1

I am negging your comment as this is applying to the United States and Europe and not Australia. Please remember your Australian Consumer Law rights.

      You need to make it clear that you are interested in the manufacturer warranty and that you are pursuing a claim under The Australian Consumer Law ('ACL') which does;

      A) Not stipulate time limits for whether you can obtain a refund etc.

      B) You are entitled to a refund if the fault constitutes a 'major fault'; if it is 'not-major' (minor) then the store can offer you a refund, repair or replacement (upon their discretion) but they must remedy the issue free of charge to you.

      C) Stores in general are likely to keep arguing that it is a minor fault and will push for a repair / replacement. If it comes to this you can either argue the issue is a 'major fault', file a complaint against them (although this is tiresome) or agree to have the GPU repaired or replaced. If you agree to a repair / replacement make it clear that there is an expectation that the issue be resolved 'within a reasonable time' under section 259 (2)(a) of the ACL or else you have the ability to reject the goods under section 259 (2)(b)(ii) and will elect to request a refund under section 263 (4)(i).

      D) You can attempt to continue to push for a refund because the issue is a 'major fault'. You will want to remind them that goods are to be of acceptable quality especially in regard to being free from defects and to be durable as per section 54 (2) (c) and (e) of the ACL. Noting that this issue did not eventuate from general 'wear and tear'.

      E) In arguing the issue is a major fault you can try and tell them that the GPU is clearly in a state that is unusable and is not repairable (due to the nature of the problem). That the GPU would not have been purchased by a reasonable consumer had they known it would fail within X years after the purchase of such an expensive graphics card costing $1000+ (citing section 260 (1)(a) directly and section 54 (3)(b) as price is a relevant factor in determining 'acceptable goods'). That the product is substantially unfit for its normal purpose and cannot be made fit within a reasonable time constituting a major fault under section 260 (1)(c).

      F) Tell them you expect a swift resolution and that they are obligated to do so under the ACL (whether you pursue a refund or a replacement). Again you will need to allow time for (STORE) to retrieve the GPU and/or have it send to Asus to verify the problem. If any other issues arise continue to communicate over email (preferably to get it in writing) and over the phone and file a report against them through the ACCC or a Consumer Affairs body for limiting your ability to enforce your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

      G) Make sure to send something in writing via email so that it is documented and on paper. Then follow up by email and phone along the way.

This was found when scrolling around, and it is such an amazing outline - pretty simple to read and unlike myself which would have 99% legal jargin.

      • Tech Jesus is Australian, the experience he dealt with would have been their "Australian support" which I believe is all centralised anyway.

No matter the case, scummy company is scummy. I would rather not have to deal with the hoops they put you through

        • I know Gamers Nexus is Australian, but he looked at it from an Non AU perspective. Aka, Asus' Warranty

He completely forgot about his rights as an Australian Consumer

          • @AircraftFreight: If you have to quote your Australian consumer rights, you're dealing with a shit company lol

            • @Kerjifire: Hey, sometimes its just like that - but the more people that actually know their rights, everyone wins in the end (except for Asus)

              • @AircraftFreight: If I have to go to the ACCC everytime I have a support issue I've wasted my money (time)

                • @Kerjifire: You arent going to need to go to the ACCC to have this resolved. Once you start quoting this, CentreCom isnt going to screw you around - search around on Reddit and on PC forums and youll see companies "expeditiously" resolve these cases, including CentreCom purchases

              • @AircraftFreight: Anyway, this is more to highlight Asus is a scummy company. I did say it was a nice deal but people should be aware they're dealing with a dodgy company

                • @Kerjifire: And thats fair enough, but you never ever go to the Manufacture in Australia when it comes to RMA repairs, you always go through the business you bought it from. Even if its out of store/manufacter warranty.

Asus is a dodgy company, like every other PC company - MSI, Gigabyte and Sapphire - they are all the same if you look deep enough haha

        • Since when is gamer nexus Australian lol.. you might be mixing him up with the hardware unboxed dude who happens to be Aussie.

      • This is also Centrecom…

        • Whoopsies, I always thought this was an Amazon deal.

  • For anyone that picked one up and doesn't wna deal with the awful and ugly 12+4pin adapter, I'd recommend picking this up for $30
