I bought a couple of these recently and found they get very hot. I think I'm going to return them.

    • +8

I own a few Sofirn (and other torch brands) and they only get hot if you run them on high/turbo for extended period of time.

    • +4

      Compact
      Cool
      Powerful

      pick two.

    • Downvote? Really?

      • +1

Yes because it is how you are using them (on max or high setting) when that is designed for short term use.

        • It literally takes 20 seconds to get hot. Is that too long?

    • +1

I second Silva, I don't have the SC32 but bought one anyway. I've got a few Sofirn flashlights and they by far heat up the quickest on high or turbo mode compared to my other flashlights, which are all cheap ones of the same price point, Wurkkos, Wuben and Convoy. Sofirn flashlights are also the only flashlights I own which have ended up burning leds.

Worst comes to worst I can request a return for Amazon if this one also burns out.

  • Anyone that has the SC32 and have user feedback?

I've got the Astrolux EP03 and it's okay and wondering if it's better (besides the specs)

  • Well maybe there is something wrong with the two I have. They both heat up very quickly. They are SC32.

    • +1

      I don't have the SC32, so can't comment.

I do own the predecessor/alternative, the SC31 Pro and that only gets hot when running on high for a extended period of time.

    • The SC32 has temp regulation, which reduces power when the LED driver internally hits 55º. Externally they will be significantly cooler than 55º due to the heat flowing through to the larger area of the torch body.

This is normal and any high power torch runs hot. It won't get too hot though.

Basically any high power torch operates at the maximum power level (and thus brightness) achievable without the internals getting too hot. More expensive torches with more efficient LED drivers and a physically larger torch means they can output more sustained lumens, but also run just as hot at higher outputs.

    • Possibly, wouldn't be the first time that the thermal regulation setting was wrong or didn't work. Is it just the head getting hot on the brightest setting? If it's the barrel then definitey return them. I've previously mentioned my experience with a similar Sofirn edc which accidentally turned on (in turbo mode) in my shorts' pocket. Suffice to say the torch head gets well and truly hot enough to get your attention before it steps down.

    • -1

Try using any other mode than turbo - 50 lumens is more than enough in most situations. Otherwise get a torch with appropriate heat-sinking, small things like this will always get hot on high modes.

  • +2

I own soo many torches that my Mrs will light my @$$ up if get another.
    Must resist…….

    • +2

Get her a Kmart Flamingo neon LED light to balance the equation :)

      • +2

this’s so wrong it’s almost right

      • Hahahahahahahaha

      • +1

For $3 with free shipping, picked up 2

    • +2

I counted the other day.. 60

      • That's a lot of torches.

      • I had a buddy growing up whose little brother collected street lights. He’d sneak out at night with a mate and scale and steal and set them up in his father’s garage. He even had one he knicked off the wall at Pentridge.

Some folks have some strange compulsions

      • Thats nuts!
        🙌

      • I'm nudging that number lol, it's a problem. What's your top 3?

  • Good price on the Sofirn IF23.

  • Good price on the Q8 plus, still sucks Amazon doesn't sell the 5000k version.

    • What's the temp of this Amazon version?

      • 6500k

  • Thank you. Just had to buy the Q8 Plus. Every food slave should own one. That dog will think twice before trying to get me next time.

  • Can anyone recommend a quality head torch?

  • The SP36pro at $63 after coupon is a better deal, no? 8k Lumens vs 5k on the non pro, with the same colour temp (according to Google) - https://amzn.asia/d/5LEPpc0

    • +2

good pick up. I think I'm going to stick with the non pro after reading this
      https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/l46zl6/sofirn_s…

      • Hmm, I thought it was going to be the 5k temp SST40, will update tomorrow.

      • Consensus seems you're right. Even if it's brighter, it's negligible to the naked eye and would step down soon after anyway so high cri is the better option. Mine hadn't shipped yet so I cancelled the pro and got the SP36 BLF.

        • just bought the BLF version as well. seems like the torch enthusiast like the older Anduril system as well.
