Which lens to get for Canon EOS 60D?

Looking to upgrade my current kit lens.

I have a 50mm f/1.4 which I love but am now looking to add a general allrounder and perhaps a telezoom.

What are your thoughts on these:
Canon 15-85mm f/3.5 IS ($598 from DDP)
Canon 70-200 f/4L ($605 from DDP)

Alternative that would give image quality but at a cheaper price?

  • 15-85 will be a good one to have just to have attached at all times and never really need to change over.

the 70-200 is a good lens but you will not have any close range and it has no image stabilisation which will cause not so great photos, unless you have a very steady hand or are always shooting with a tripod

    • Thanks.

I ended getting the 15-85 from DDP which had one in stock and hopefully will arrive by the weekend.

The reviews on the 70-200 show it to operate quite well without IS. Have you used one before? Whats a good alternative around the same price without having to go to the next level of L series to get IS?
