Tethering to iPad mini

Hey guys, thinking of buying the young bloke an iPad mini for Xmas. My question is can i tether (personal hotspot)from my iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to the iPad mini (for when we're out and about travelling)
If anyone owns one could they please confirm whether or not this can be done.
Appreciate the help

Yes you can tether it. Watch out for bill shock on your data consumption

  • You can set your iphone to act as a personal hotspot, and have the mini connect via wifi, or you can tether via bluetooth, and have the mini connect that way.

    • Which is exactly what I do. I would not even consider buying a 3G iPad these days, there is just no need to pay for two plans when Bluetooth tether is so reliable.

Just be aware that if you plan to use it for apps which require accurate use of a GPS or accelerometer, this hardware is not present in the wifi-only models. Apparently it is part of the 3G circuit board. I don't have a sim in mine and also connect via wifi to an external broadband when required, but I needed to buy the 3G("4G") model to get the additional features.

        • I didn't know that, interesting… and a bit sneaky.

      • Only if you are a fan of Apple iOS or if you really want the mini as a digital camera (Don't you have a proper camera?) the IPAD mini makes sense. Otherwise the ASUS-made Nexus 7 with 32GB and 3G at $299 (including GPS, Tecra 3 , etc) would be the way to go. Look here the specs: http://www.google.com/nexus/7/specs/
The thing is that the $299 bargain is not going to be there much more time, you need to move fast: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85010

  • Thanks to all for your feedback :-)
