Hello everybody,

Just spoke to ING regarding their 'Refer a friend' campaign (http://campaigns.ingdirect.com.au/refer-a-friend?cid=ccm:rdl…) and just wanted to share the information I received.

a) It is vital to use a code that hasn't been used by more than 5 people and/or being super quick to open and activate the card. The consultant on the phone said that ONLY the first 5 people will receive the bonus and as there is no reliable way of knowing the number of times the code has been used, it might pay off to activate quickly. Or ING might just pay off everyone eventually, I'm not sure how they will act, but this is what they told me.

b) This is the important bit.

Those people who use the code and activate their cards between now and 31st December and the people providing the unique codes, will have their bonuses in by 8th January, 2013.

So if you are a new customer and haven't received your bonus, I'm guessing that means 5 people activated before you. Might be worthwhile to call them up after that date to check why the bonus hasn't been credited and they might make a goodwill deposit, who knows ?

To those people providing the codes, if you receive less than $250, that means you still have a code or a few codes left (simple math to find out, 1 code = $50). If you have codes left, you can still give it out, since new customers need to open and activate by 31st January. Both parties will receive their bonus by 8th February.

Yup, I think that's about it. If someone else feels like cross checking that with ING, that would be nice :)

    Being a long term loyal ING customer with a family with with hundreds of thousands in ING - we did not meet the criteria. Moving my family's loyalty elsewhere for investments.

    Just called them up again to reconfirm the previous information they had given (on which the original post was based), and surprise surprise, that has now changed.

    The phone consultant said "I'm not sure when we'll start paying the bonuses but it will be paid by the 8th of February at the latest". Effectively, that means you can only know how many people went through with the whole process by the 8th of February (or earlier, if they start paying bonuses sooner) and if someone hasn't gone through with it then there is no way of giving out the code again since the promotion ends on the 31st of January.

    Got some of my referral bonus today, unfortunately there was the withholding tax applied to it. Gave them a call and it looks like they'll be fixing it up soon. 3 of 5 paid so far! Whoo!

    got my $50 bonus paid today.

    (well online is says the transaction was processed 04/01/2013)

    but got $23 deducted for tax witholding purposes.

    called ING to query, they are aware of the tax witholding deduction and investigating. sounded like a few people were affected.

    Tax withheld no matter you have your TFN listed or not. However INGDirect assured that it's a glitch in their system and the withheld tax will be refunded soon.

    ING says they're aware of the TFN number problem - since you can't provide a TFN for everyday their system is automatically deducting WHT - apparently should be credited back by the end of the week

    Got my $150. My partner hasn't even received his card yet and I still got the $50. That or someone else used my code. I might give them a call to see whether they can tell me whether all has been used :/ Everyone should receive an email regarding the withholding tax mistake.

        I don't think they would divide the bonus, maybe the others weren't activated by the date required? Or have people only activated online and not done an initial deposit onto the card, as I think this might be required as well.

    i just phoned ing. be prepared for approx 20 min wait.

    i received $100 despite 5 people taking my code. ing said there is no way for them to tell how many people have used your code, however today's payment was for the registrations up until 31 dec 2012. make your own conclusions depending on when you gave codes out :)

      It doesn't give you one on sign up, and you may or may not get one. It is sent as a promotional email by the system, you cannot manually "opt in" to the promotion. You must start using the card and maybe you will get the email.

    Just FYI, people who sign up NEED TO deposit $$ into the account to be considered activated… I had 4 people sign up and no one put $$ in!!!

        Well, my brother definitely activated the card in December but did not deposit funds - no bonus for either of us yet.

        Also, the ING Facebook page confirms this (check the most recent comments and the response by the rep - she says you must deposit funds).

        Edit: I only have 1 code left :)

    Just checked my $50 went on on the of 4th of Jan.

    Weird accounting….

    $50 credit, then $23 debited, then $50 credit, then $50 debited, then $23 credited; to leave $50 as the balance.
