    For the Hoard!

Time to collect games and end up never playing them.

    • Unfortunately my collecting has began to get to the point where there's not much to expand on my collection without wasting too much money on games I wont play.

      • +2

Ummm… I think the whole point of hoarding is to have MORE games can you can play…

      • Only buying games you plan on playing? What is this foreign concept you speak of?

  • +1

Some great games on Day 1:

Kotor 2 - $2.50 until 12pm WST/ 3pm EDT. - Dated graphics but a pretty awesome story, only released on steam recently despite coming out in 2005. Developed by Obsidian (Fallout: New Vegas, Alpha Protocol)

Terrarria - $3.39. Excellent indie game, not just a 2D minecraft. This games has tons of complexity and plenty of content. Expect it to consume your life for a few days.

The Walking Dead - $12.50 - Yet to play this but I have heard great things about the story and the final episode only just released today.

I'm sure there are some other gems but these are the three that stood out for me.

If you are interested in Xcom: Enemy Unknown I would suggest looking elsewhere to avoid the regional pricing. It is $40 on greenmangaming with the coupon GMG20-1FYLZ-EDG8R (gives you a steam key).

    • +1

The walking dead was the only one I was really considering as I've also heard good things about it, but the problem is I know I'll never play it. Though that hasn't stopped me from purchasing 95% of the games I own on steam - just don't know if $12.50 is worth it to expand my collection by only 1.

      • I'm in the same boat. :(

Last sales have been at $14.99 I believe so I'll probably cave in and purchase it this time round. :)

      • +2

I think that price will get beat before you get around to deciding to play it.

        • That is exactly what happened with Skyrim… :(

    • +3

KotOR 1 is on sale for $2.50 too. Great games.

To anyone buying KotOR 2 who is a massive fan of these games like myself: the Sith Lords Restoration project released update 1.8 earlier this year, restores a lot of cut content, really improves the game closer to what it was originally going to be. Link: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-sith-lords-restored-content-mo…

    • I've played all those games and many more from steam sales but usually give up after a few minutes.

The Walking Dead was different I can even say it was the best $15 in entertainment I have ever spent. You will not regret it. Unless you really hate zombies or adventure games.

IGN just gave the last episode 9.5/10, first few sentences of that review should convince you.

    • $40 for XCOM is too much.

Oh, darn. www.wowhd.com.au has stopped their 20% off.. it was $35.16 for a physical copy yesterday.

    • KotOR 1 is also on sale for $2.50. I bought both as backups for my old CD-ROM versions.

Also Darkstar One bundle is $1.99
      Joint Task Force $2.50

I'll leave my traditional piece of Steam Sale advice: Never buy until the last day UNLESS it is a Daily Deal or Flash Sale. Otherwise you run the risk of buying it and it receiving a further discount later in the sale.

    • thanks for that, so i guess just wait for this to get cheaper then?

      cs:go
      http://store.steampowered.com/app/730/

      • I preordered CS:GO for around that price during the Summer Sale. Cheapest I've seen it I think was $9.95. I was able to grab the complete CS pack (everything from 1.6 to source) for $14.99 in the last sale, too. AOE III at $9.99 is a great buy, too.

Looks like family and friends won't be getting presents this year, but I will be having a great time hahaha

    • So you're saying that prices won't drop below that of the Daily Deal or Flash Sale?

  • Just picked up Portal 2 for $US9.99 (50% off)

    • +11

should have waited, i rekon that will be a s75%er in the next few days for sure!

      • +1

It definitely was $5 for many of the days during the summer sale!

        • +2

Even so, great game so don't beat yourself up too much. :-)

      • +1

Now I just feel sorry for the guy. It's currently $4.99.

I can't find it either. Might be a US thing only? I don't know if Steam hide region specific games.

  • Hey guys, about this russian store thing

I'm using http://www.steamprices.com/au to compare to russia (use the tool at top right to compare)

Some things are like half price!! crysis 2 is $12 in au store and $5.75 in russian!!!

What i want to know is how do you go about proceeding? Do you go to russian store login with same details and simple as buy and it shows up in ur account or is there a trick to it?

    • I tried to buy L4D2 from the US Steam store and had my account blocked from all purchases. I spoke to Steam support who unblocked it and told me to buy only from the Australian store now.

There are some ways around it such as creating a new Russian account using a VPN with a Russian IP address. You purchase the game as a gift from that account for your Australian account.

For me it is just not worth the risk anymore, I have about $500 worth of purchases in my account and do not want to have my account banned.

      • same, side note, if you create an account to gift you have to have atleast one game on it… as I created on when i was in the UK to gift my other account and they blocked the gift…. remeber reading something about having atleast one game (not free) before you gift.

  • ive been buying games from the US store all day =\

    hope i dont get blocked!?

  • Another thing is, Wont buying from russia give you a russian copy with russian language? more importantly you wont be able to play with friends who have AUS copy…

    • +1

That only applies to certain games. And region blocking is very rare for PC games — the only ones who pull a dick move like that is Blizzard nowadays.
