  • Topical, I need to pick friends up from Melb tulla airport after an international trip. What's the best/most cost effective way to do this?

    • +2

arrive to the airport not earlier than the time of their flight arrivals (maybe even book entry for 30 minutes later than flight arrival), you only have now 15 minutes grace periods before entry and after exit booked times, if you arrive earlier the barrier gate will not open…

FYI they changed their T&C for the grace period:

A 2-hour grace period applies to all online bookings parking over 4 hours, a 1-hour grace period applies to all online bookings parking for less than 4 hours.

        • Thank you, they changed it again, from the website, it doesn't say anything about parking under four hours though:

Can I enter the car park earlier or later than my confirmed booking time?
You may arrive up to two hours before your booked entry time. If you arrive any earlier than the time prior to two hours before your booked entry time, you will be charged at drive-up rates for your entire stay (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. View Melbourne Airport’s Drive-up Rates.

If you exit a car park before your booked exit time (as confirmed by Melbourne Airport via email), you will not be entitled to a refund or adjustment. For an online booking for more than 4 hours, there is a two-hour grace period for exit after your booked exit time. If you exit more than two hours after your booked exit time, you will be charged for the time beyond two hours after your booked exit time at Melbourne Airport’s Drive-up Rates (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you may not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges.

@Ametric: Try to make a booking and it will show up before the payments

            • @Imposter: thanks, that is great, then it can be 2.5 hours parking for the cost of 30 minutes, as it was in the olden days!

I left the car park significantly later than my exit time (by some 50 minutes probably), a few months ago, but did not have any additional payments to my card, I thought it might be odd, as it did not allow me to enter until it was 15 minutes before my booking (I was staying for a couple of minutes and waiting to get in, while holding a few cars behind me), as the qr-code did not work until that time.

      • Is it an option to only drop in and out for less than 15 mins to save any booking/cost at the "terminal" carpark? https://assets-au-01.kc-usercontent.com/be08d7b0-97a1-02f9-2…

Time it so you come to the airport only AFTER they land, since they have to get out and get their bags. If you still have to wait you can drive around a bit or sit at Maccas carpark if its not too busy.

    • Use the Ring and Ride / Waitzone carpark. Exit before the 30 minute fee kicks in and reenter if necessary. Pick up from Arrivals lane (note there's 2 lanes with associated numbering (1 being closest to the terminals and 2 being closest to the hotel)). Based upon my last trip to the Arrivals lane, there may be a lot of numptys holding up traffic without their passengers being ready. They do get moved on, and probably fined too, which will cause them pain later on. That caused my trip into it to take quite a long time.
