Big Softies Trifold Reusable Cloth Nappy Inserts 2pk $3 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass/ $65 Order) @ Kmart

120

Cheap enough at $5, but $1.50 each is ridiculous for a trifold booster, when the going rate with other brands is $13-15 each.

For those scratching their heads, these are absorbent reusable inserts for cloth nappies, to boost other reusable nappies (wouldn't recommend the big softies nappies themselves necessarily, although they work for some). They would work well with the aldi bare and boho which always need boosting, and any pocket nappies.

From my research and the label, these are bamboo + polyester, with microfibre internals (quick drying, good for winter), bamboo outer layer on one side (absorbent and safe to go against the skin), and microfleece on the other side (quickly absorbing and safe to go against the skin, best side for quick absorbancy).

Plenty left at my local in NSW.

  • Any idea how harmful nappies are for the environment? Never hear anything about it

    • Hmm ive only really investigated how harmful it is on the wallet.

A quick google has stats from a 2009 life cycle assessment as land use for raw materials (i assume detergent usage as well), landfill and energy consumption as being less for reusables, and water consumption being higher.

Biggest stat of interest there was 3-6kg solid waste vs 288-360kg solid waste (landfill) per year, which is full-on, but shouldn't be considered in isolation.

Economic feasibility for a bargain has to take into account energy usage for washing and time spent doing so. And upfront cost. Which for bargain hunters isn't a problem.

    • Do you mean reusable vs disposable or just in general?

  • as a new parent, i have nothing but respect for people who use reusable nappies. life is difficult enough and there is more than enough washing without adding nappies i have to clean to that list.

at this price, id prob just use these as burp clothes and never nappies

  • become a CCN member

    What's this referring to?

    • Clean Cloth Nappies subscription, a paid yearly or one-off membership to access to a lot of compiled research and tools for cleaning routines that suit australian conditions.

Essentially how to get a good clean every time without headaches.

Includes troubleshooting support, detergent amount calculators to avoid over-use or under-use, water temp and bleach concengration calculators, nappy brand-specific details from non-associated testers, washing machine help, etc etc etc.

    • Pretty much the exact reason why reusable nappies are and will remain a niche, people gate keeping "wash your dirty clothes" and pretending it's witchcraft.

  • +1

The reusable nappy bundle is also on clearance: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/big-softies-reusable-nappy-…
Might be useful for those who don't have the actual nappies yet.
