        • ok ended getting a tv stand for $39 from kmart. As the coffee table was out of stock. TV stand is 1Metre wide so just the right size for the tv.

how would everyone feel about this if I could prove that is was NOT full HD?

please go ahead and prove it.

    • Give it a crack.

      Can't wait forever.

    • You're right, even some TVs are advertised as FullHD but they are actually up-scaled to 1080p. The resolution that windows recommends is its true resolution. I have tested some TVs around my house, this is not based on my assumption.

    • Most people seem to be happy with it, whether or not it is full hd. If they can't tell the difference does it matter if it is not full hd?

  • HN advertised it as 1920x1080, though which is unequivocal

  • Not sure if we can ask for a refund if the TCL website also stated 1920x1080!! http://tclelectronics.com.au/product.asp?pid=85&cid=17

  • Of course you can get a refund. Shit I think TCL should supply us all with true 1080 TVs. Still I'm not 100% sure yet. I've put up a test pic: http://pixelpics.com.au/stuff/test-hd.html

its a pixel checkerboard. If the TV is displaying the output of the graphics card directly (as you'd expect on a true 1080p tv, then the background should look an even grey. If there are lines, or patches of light and dark, then its being remapped. The TCL shows these lines - but does so at both 1920 and 1366 resolutions. Also the top grey square should look roughly the same colour grey as the background (if you squint). If it looks a lot lighter then there is resampling happening.

I still don't think its bad quality - but consumers have a right to get what they;re told they're getting.

  • Any chance this would be back at this price?

  • Finally got mine. Delayed arrival at my local HN (they oversold and I was too slow collecting it) and have put it up in the alfresco area. Visually, it is brilliant. I'm very impressed for 40" sub $300, full HD or not.

The one issue I do have though is that USB audio playback won't go through my external speakers? Normal TV is fine, but playing files from USB only comes through the internal speakers. Had a look through the settings, etc and this doesn't seem to be an option. Not a deal breaker, but any ideas to sort this minor issue out would be great!

Never mind, you just have to use the SPDIF as the audio output. Easy fix. :)
