Dyson AM04 Hot + Cool Fan Heater for $399 + $6.95 Shipping @ Harvery Norman

172

I must admit I feel a little dirty for posting a Harvey Norman bargain… But this isn't my first time here, so don't hold back! :)

After the review this got from choice as a heater (Paywall… So summary: Topped the comparison table. Plenty of features, extremely effective and one of the few to use less than 4kWh over the 120 minute test!) We have been on the look out for one.

Amazon France/Spain had a sale for a bit, but I really couldn't be bothered with the power adapter/ international warranty headaches. Costco had it on sale at one stage for ~ $480, but we were too slow.

Harvey Norman are clearing them out. After trying to pick one up in store today, the guys said they had been sold out for months, the success had surprised Dyson themselves, and they weren't expecting any more units back in store till mid next year (too me, that kinda sounds like a new version might be coming). Regardless, this is an extremely cheap price. I doubt you'll be able to pick it up in store, but postage was $6.95 to most places I tried. It is even $200 cheaper than the AM02 (just fan) model!

This is hands down the best electrical heater available. It has the added benefit of also being useful in summer too! … It's also just plain cool to look at!

No idea when this will end.

  • Sweet, I was just looking at the Dyson website at these fans this morning, but closed the tab when I saw the price…

  • Been this price for about 1.5 weeks on the HN Hot Deals page. For a fan only option, I would consider the AM02 model which a lot more powerful but is only $129 more (looked at both at DJs this morning).

OK so it's a heater too, but is it really a 'bargain' at $400? Personally you could get a decent heater for under $100 these days, I don't really get any of this 'non-buffeting' stuff they are pedalling

This is a bargain for the dyson. Your comment is like comparing a Panasonic tv to a soniq. Why spend so much when something cheaper will do the job, just not as good.

      • +3

I can understand that it's cheap compared to the RRP or current market price, however I disagree with the products pricing all together.

With your tv analogy the price difference ratio isn't 2:40, it's about 4:6. If the Soniq tv was $200 and the panasonic was $4000 the panasonic can go jump.

        • Yeah, but you are just trolling so by all means burn your house down with a $10 heater.

        • I have a 10 dollar heater and its still going strong(after 3 yrs), but my bills are getting really strong too.

      • Only thing is, in this case, the cheaper product actually performs better. The small brushlss dc fans in the dysons sound like a jet plane taking off, even $30 sun airs push more air for less noise.

Theres really nothing good about these fans other than the coolness factor and fashion, they maybe safer around kids due to the blades being hidden, but they tip over so easily.

Sounds like a bunch of hot air

I'll wait til china makes cheaper versions of these lol :)

Prob why no one want to come up with new ideas these days

Just a warning, the Dyson fans are incredibly loud. I have two and both sound like a tornado. Don't expect to be able to watch TV or go to sleep with one on.

    • +4

Yep, can confirm this is correct. I own this exact model (bought for $250 new/sealed on the "secondhand" market) and it is loud and doesn't get particularly hot. This seems to be the general consensus. Even at $250 I sort of feel it is overpriced, so as an owner think $399 is crazy for the performance and what it does. My 2 cents.

I grabbed one. Appreciate the post.

If you want the other colour - Dyson Air Multiplier AM04 heater / 2000 watts / anthracite / blue. $359 delivered from amazon.de

2000watts??, Holy Moley, can imagine my heart thumping electricity bill already..

      • +3

I think most electrical heaters run flat chat. Then turn off when thermostat reaches set level.
A reverse cycle aircon or inverter is cheaper to heat/cool.
Well not as cheap as a ceiling fan etc.

    Harvery Norman?

Always wondering anybody will spend $400 for a fan? Will it make you fly?

    • +7

Yes, but you will need to buy 28 units, as well as a large wicker basket and 28 extra-long extension cords.

      • I tried to give you a + but my dumb ipad gave a -

      • +1

        nice one, Firefly!

I'm not a fan of this deal.

    • +2

Don't worry about the negs - people's opinions often blow hot and cold here.

  • Just watched the consumer reports youtube review of this. They claim its $400 us rrp.
Another review said cooling was 6x whereas the fan model was 12x.

  • my fd bought one last year (big tower fan),$500 from david jones, his comments are same as many others, expensive , but didn't regret it.

  • I'm not negging just saying I went to BigW today and they had a large free standing fan for $20

  • It was $12

BUT IT'S NOT A BARGAIN, well not an ozbargin

  • -1

A fan for $399 goes against the entire ozbargain ethos

    • +1

you could buy an AC unit for this price!

  • +1

This is ok but it's quite LOUD. Just be aware of that if you run it at night, which I needed to do during winter to keep the room at a good temp for my baby daughter. Incidentally, this is the price that Bing Lee let me have it for about 4 months ago!

    • SOUNDS like a big drawback for this product.

  • -2

I have to neg this because the manufacture didn't warn buyer it's as loud as your handheld vacuum!

Someone will end up wasting $400 like me(actually $500) if they don't aware of it.

    • +1

A loud fan? Who would have thought!

  • Aside from being quite loud, this Dyson is VERY bad at heating any large space.

That said, it is VERY good at heating up a very small space (read: bedroom). In winter i put it on in the mornings for 3-5 mins on max and my 3x4 bedroom is safe enough to get out of bed and get dressed without freezing bits off.

Havent tested it yet as a cooling fan, but I think that I'll get a chance for that coming week with 40 degrees weather predicted.

  • As a foot heater or in close proximity it works phenomenally, and you don't end up toasted as it just pushes out hot air.

It actually heats up a large room quite well (27 sqm for me) as the fan does a good job of circulating heat. No regrets with this purchase, far better than all the Sunbeam, column and radiant heaters I went through.

It's a very different product than other heaters, I think of it as more of a hair dryer.

  • Eww, HN! Shame on you.
