With so many coffee deals recently, I'll wait for Manna Beans to price match

Primo Cafe still have its anniversary special of $9.95/Kilo freshly roasted coffee available.

    • +1

      hmmm.

Taken from a previous Primo Caffe deal:

I went to their warehouse and the beans are NOT fresh roasted… The expert? barista working there didn't even know why I wanted to know a roast date… I haven't tried the beans so can't comment on quality but can say with 100% certainty they aren't fresh.

      • +1

Not the first time I've heard questionable things coming out of Primo…

  • Great price on great coffee. Too bad I can't finish 2kg's in its prime. What about getting us some 1kg deals occasionally?

    • +2

I will put something together. get in touch in January?

      • definitely. I should be good by then ;)

  • I'm not really loyal to any brand so for me it's the cheapest price I can find on some good beans when I need them. Bay Beans wins again, we just ran out of our 2kg from last time. Looking forward to giving these a go.

I don't think I'd pay full price for any of these companies because its just outside my price range, but on special it's great value.

    • Thanks!

You cannot go wrong with these beans topped with the best customer service!
James replies to emails within minutes literally!!!

The trick is to freeze the beans to make them last longer.

I have a spare 250gm bag that I refill all the time.

    Give them a go!!!

    • +1

freezing the beans is a bad idea - every time you take them out and open the bag you get condensation on them, this then spoils them even quicker than if they were at room temp in an airtight bag

    • The trick is to freeze the beans to make them last longer.

According to Harris Coffee on facebook, beans should NOT be kept in the fridge or freezer, as they get moist, and quality deteriorates. James, would you possibly care to comment on this?

EDIT Ah Fattyboom, I see we were posting at the same time. What is it they say about great minds? lol

      • +3

Its fine to freeze your coffee beans - it slows down the aging process. but, in my opinion, its best to freeze an unopened bag from a fresh roaster, and once opened, don't refreeze again. Allow the frozen bag to come up to room temp from the freezer before opening the bag to reduce condensation.

There are lots of opinions out there, and some backed by science, but at the end of the day, you will know if what your doing suits you. Dont take it too seriously and enjoy your coffee.

With relation to freezing - Check these guys out.

    https://coffee.com.au/

They sell coffee by the bucket load and in whole sale and have won numerous awards.

their mantra is freeze coffee at all times…

You should see the size of their roaster.

Call and speak to Dan about freezing coffee.

    • Seems to make sense. Introducing the moist air and returning the container to the freezer each time is the problem to address ….. by eliminating the air as much as possible each time.

      • Think about what happens when you pull something from the freezer. As soon as you pull it out, you start to get condensation on it - it's instantaneous, and even worse in humid environments. Now think about what that moisture will do to the quality of your coffee over time.

You can eliminate the air in the container, but the damage is already done - the moisture has been introduced as soon as the cold coffee is exposed to the air.

what about splitting it into 250gm zip lock baggies and then freezing? then just take out a bag when needed…

        • if your putting fresh roasted coffee into 250g baggies, and the baggie has a one way valve, thats going to work fine. Just try and remove as much as as you can and then the degassing process will take care of the rest (mostly).

I sometimes will manually suck the air out of the bag through the one way valve.

        • I just knew there was a sensible reason for buying dozens of ziplock vacuum food bags just because they were on special. lol

You've got me there James - was holding out for the $10 taste-test sample (that I don't think was ever going to happen) but if I can freeze it (after a taste) to use up what I already have here, well and good. :) Does it matter if the ziplock vaccuum bags I have are clear if they're only going into the freezer?

I sometimes will manually suck the air out of the bag through the one way valve.

I sometimes will stand in the supermarket and squeeze the air out fo the one way valve, just for the gorgeous aroma. The majority of the bagged supermarket coffee tastes like mulched woodchip or worse, but it usually at least SMELLS like coffee.

        • I sometimes will manually suck the air out of the bag through the one way valve.

          Next step is IV lol.

        • A sensible reason to buy on special is not always obvious, its just we have to sometimes get creative with the justification ;-) Pretty much all of us here suffer the same condition.

        • then licking the inside of an empty coffee bag, like a bag of doritios ;-)

        • +1

Clear bags are fine. The freezer and pantry are both dark places.

If you want to go for the factory feel, you can seal a ziplock bag using a hair straightener. Don't ask how I know that.

        • If you want to go for the factory feel, you can seal a ziplock bag using a hair straightener. Don't ask how I know that.

I'd never quite been able to work that out - I know using the iron and baking paper doesn't work.

        • If you can get your hands on a Hair Straightener, use it long ways to seal the top left, then the top right. Takes only a few seconds on the highest setting.

If you see smoke and fire and a smell something burning, back off a little :)

Speaking of roasters.. check out my new baby.

      • Saw that, just had a look at the wikiapaedia page on the coffee roasting process because you piqued my interest.

  • I got some mocha and expresso from them and we just love them. Not ready for more yet though, but will certainly order more when finished. James was very helpful.

    • thanks! Maybe some for Santa? He will be working through the night at least, and a few late nights in December.

  • Hmm, usually order beans, but this time went with pre-ground because I have a hand grinder, and it's just a pain to have to spend 5 minutes grinding coffee.

Think the course grind works well in an Aeropress James?

    • You've nailed it. Course grind - I will make sure its perfect for Aeropress.

  • First time I have heard of Baybeans, I love my coffee Campos, Merlot are some of my first choices.
I just had a good read of the site and how James goes about it all, and sounds great, put in an order for a couple of kilos of the super crema :) great price looking forward to trying the coffee.

    • Thanks - Let me know how you like your coffee when you've had a chance.

      • You just emailed me regarding my order great stuff on a Sunday as well that's service.

I usually like quite a strong roast, full bodied with a slightly sweet flavour to it, having that intensity from the dark roast yet smooth to the pallet with lasting flavour, that would have to be my pick.

I drink either straight espresso, Macchiatos or lattes with 60ml milk roughly half the normal amount.
I picked the super crema as indicated it is strong producing a good size crema with a medium body, hopefully on the mark :)

        • You've made a good choice. You might also enjoy Espresso Master?

I have ordered from James before. The beans were great. and he is very helpful and the way customer service should be. forget his great price, I would buy just for the great customer service… oh and the great tasting beans.

But James, if ur going to have a special on 2KGs you better be having a special on ziplock bags with one way valves.

    • I like the way you think.

    • if ur going to have a special on 2KGs you better be having a special on ziplock bags with one way valves.

I had the same thought but thought I'd be pushing my luck if I asked. lol There ARE actually places online that sell zipseal coffee bags.

  • Great bargain, bought.

  • Sold! Well at least I will have something for a new years resolution… Try to cut back on coffee! :-)

    • Touche!

  • Forte was the first one I bought from James, from then hooked on his beans. Had the Super Crema, Premium and Mocha since, all good brews. James havent finished my Mocha yet, how long u running this deal for mate?

    • Hi Dazza. I have the deal running for another week.

      • Hey James, so wots the last day, only this week or into next week?

        • Expires 9th dec, Sunday. So, that could mean Saturday midnight?

I will leave the page open until Monday morning.

          Enjoy!

  • I bought the Mocha the last time. which of the two is closer to the Mocha? the Forte or the Super Crema. I like the sweetness in the beans of the Mocha.

    • Try one of each - it's a bargain.

Else, Forte is your safe bet.

      • Thanks,

May be im blind but could you direct me to the ziploc bags with one way valves on ur site?

        • Hi ya

I dont have any ziplock bags on the site - you're not going blind ;)

I will look at putting something together as a deal in the future.

  • Just ran out from the last deal. Perfect timing :D

    • +1

Wasn't in the last time but just running out myself - as you say timing is everything!

  • bought! The first time.

    • great time to get in.

Good coffee. Bought at the last 2x 1kg deal. Recommended, but I had to share my beans around to get through the amount! (I'd do it again, but right now, I'm still well stocked with coffee beans)
