Have they stopped burning the beans?

Just for transparency, normcore has been completely absent without warning for around 2 months, not fullfilling orders and subscriptions. They did send out an email recently explaning the situations and apologizing for the disappointment to customers. I did place an order very very recently and delivery was super fast to sydney metro.

As someone who has been a big fan of their roasts for a while I highly suggest anyone who hasn't tried it out to give it a go.

They have also written to change their blend recipes/development time to achieve better results.

Damn good blend: Is a darker roasted (darker than aldi dark blend) blend incredibly sweet with no sign of sourness. I would suggest keeping this 1:1 at around 25 seconds if you are pairing with milk and keeping the latter half of the shot shorter so less of the bitter componenets get extracted. For a long black 1:1.5 is also very lovely for a more traditional bold flavour coffee.

Cornerstone blend: medium roast with fruity aspects, definitely would suggest 1:2 as the fruity acidity pairs incredibly well and there isn't as much bitter components towards the end. Probably my favourite to go if family has Milk, long black and espresso drinkers.

Orange sugar blend: Is the more experimental, people who are used to light roast SO flavours. This blend is also a medium I believe but is all about as the name states, fruity aspects. Definitely a fun blend, but the flavour profile can be off putting to more traditional dark roast coffee drinker but for the people who want to make the shipping 50$ or want to try a more fun coffee without comitting to a super light roast SO, I wholeheartly recommend this. I would also suggest a 1:2 or even a longer ratio if drinking as espresso.

    • Thanks for your detailed write-up

Do you have experience with Normcores decaf?

Also, do you think their coffee is worth the markup compared to the OB favourites? For instance, I can currently get 3kg at limeblue for the price of 2kg at normcore.

Decaf is pretty good from what I have found but the thing with decaf is….its…..really just about the same anywhere else whether its swiss water processed, heat processed or chemically processed.

A lot of the more fragile flavour componenets gets lost as well as with the caffeine.
Its definitely not a bad cup to drink out of and holds a lot of your typical flavours like chocolate, syrupy that you would get from dark roasts.

I haven't experiemented too much with decaf but I definitely enjoyed it as a late night affogato.

I think limeblue and normcore are different. I haven't tried limeblue as extensive as I have tried out normcore blend but I think its really the question of what coffee is to you.

If its something to just get to start the day I don't see why coffee from Aldi their medium or luxe blend isn't enough for any consumer. I personally enjoy drinking aldi luxe blend for that extra fruitiness compared to the dark or medium blend which is more of a nutty profile with less acidity.

If its something that you have as a hobby, then I don't see why trying out different roasters should be a price to price comparison. Its exactly the same reason you would try different things to see whether you like it or not.

IF its value wise, I personally think aldi blend can't be beaten even its from limeblue. Its a dimnishing return of a product.

I don't think I would buy normcore at full price neither would I at lime blue, but at this price, I have already bought 2kg + their decaf haha.

        • Awesome, thanks

I have already tried damn good and cornerstone. I really liked damn good blend the 1st time I purchased 2 years ago, but for whatever reason I felt underwhelmed when I got it again 6 months ago… perhaps thats just my perception

I use a kingrinder plus cafalat robot as my MO for long blacks. I 'd say that makes me an entry level enthusiast

    • Never received the email, the refund, or beans. Would you mind updating me on what happened? purchased 30/06/2024 for anyone wondering

I believe the owner has gone through personal related issues (not sure on any details) I won't go into it as I really do not know the detail.

They are trying to rectify the situation by either offering refunds or compensation.

They are having to go through a backlog of orders which means it will take a bit of time, send them an email through their new email [email protected] to reach out about your order number.

I think personally things like this do happen, and I would much rather support a small business during its hardships now that they have clarified what was going on, but I do understand the frustration of the peple who didn't get their orders fulfilled.

        • unfortunately its not just the customers who your typically thinking spending 30-100 bucks an order. Apparently, they have stiffed their other suppliers as well out of major orders. One guy posted on IG that the company owes them six figures in inventory

          • @AdHod: Wow thats insane if true, I hope they are able to pay them back

Normcore Coffee was ordered by the Federal Court just last week (upon application by Detmold, a packaging supplier) to wind up the company and it is currently under liquidation according to ASIC: https://publishednotices.asic.gov.au/browsesearch-notices/no….

You can see a copy of the Court Orders on the Commonwealth Courts Portal under the file number SAD113/2024.

I am surprised that this has not been communicated either through their website or their social media pages, despite the owner recently posting on Facebook and Instagram a couple days ago regarding his absence and a giveaway.

hmm thats new, i guess he wants to leave on an attempted good note?

Its interesting becuase the other owner who is chano running normcore KR, is saying things are coming hinting at the australia scene.

I'm guessing they are going to liquidate normcore au and run normcore as a korean coffee/cafe roaster in the upcoming future?

      • Im based in Seoul and thought they left the Korean market. I haven't seen them around for ages.

    • A shame, I liked their beans!

Screw these guys - radio silence on my last order and had to do charge back.

Looks like PayPal has kicked them off too.

There are plenty of roasters, shop elsewhere.
