For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

  • Anything out there with an oled display that competes with the iPad Pro/Samsung S9?

    • +10

My unpopular opinion is that OLED is overrated and you can get some really good bright and colourful IPS panels. Getting OLED under the 10" form factor is difficult.

In the under 10" form factor for non-OLED I'm a big fan of the Lenovo Legion Y700 2023 as it has a really bright 8.8" 144Hz 2560x1600 100% DCI-P3 display. They've just announced the 2024 version with the same display at 165Hz.

    • Xiaoxin pad pro 2022 or Lenovo pad pro 12.

Love my Lenovo pad pro 2022. Display looks gorgeous, looks better than the previous generation iPad Pros with their IPS displays.

Got it for $200 as well.

  • How does this compare to the Lenovo xiao xin tablets ?

    • Different form factors so they can't really be compared. Obviously the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad 2023 is going to have better hardware but it's also massively bigger. A better comparison would be against something like the Legion Y700 at 8.8".

Recos for a 10in tab to just watch stuff on? ie YT, Kayo etc

Too bad , no cellular connection 😕

    • Yeah, I would love to see a 7 or 8 inch with cellular. I used to daily drive a tablet instead of phone.

      • My wife said the same thing.

        • did your wife also used to daily drive a tablet?

In 1984, phone big. Each year, phone shrink. In 2003, man see porn on phone. After that, phone get big again.

    • I'd like eSim options on these for occasional times when not on WiFi so could use a Roadless type account

        Edit: Roamless

    • the iplay 50 mini pro had full Sim support this is such a weird move to take by then

Alldocube don’t update their devices very much. I have an iplay40 that never once got OTA updates

  • Are there any tablets that not only allow video out but also video in so they can be used as external displays when they will be too slow to be usable as tablets?

    • Most with usb-c can use a regular dongle for HDMI input. Then just find a suitable app.

I have iplay 50 it sits in the cupboard, screen is average. Not worth it.

    • I have the iplay 50 mini pro I use for everyday it's good enough to watch anything. I don't know why you are expecting 4k screen from a 150$ tablet

      • +1

Nothing I hate more than when people buy budget Android tablets and expect iPad quality.

8.4" screen? So its an oversize mobile phone, minus the ability to use it as one.

    • +4

I guess you could say that about all different size tablets that can't be used as a phone.

    • it's a perfect size for reading on the go which is my main reason for buying the previous version

    • The difference of a fraction of an inch really plays a role in the user experience. This size seems to be perfect for the kids to play games on.

  • Thanks! Bought one. Hopefully everything will be fine

  • Pretty scummy and misleading having "16GB RAM" in the pics, then "8GB+8GB virtual memory RAM" in the description… Lol who are they trying to fool?

And then referring to the storage device as ROM.

    • Extended memory is a real gimmick anyway. For a while Factory Direct Collected were selling Android tablets without any mention of the true RAM and you could easily get a 50% refund or more in a dispute due to it being misleading.

ROM is just a name that sticks. Not true to its meaning that's for sure.

      • ROM depends how you look at it, the operating system shares the same storage

i thought of Custom/Andriod ROM and it made sense as Andriod is mostly an immutable operating system

separated read only OS and user/app data by partitions

technically ROM is incorrect usage but seems to be fading like BIOS not using ROM from the mid-90s

just like we can upgrade firmware on a forever increasingly number of devices; andriod support OTA updates, etc…

    • You can always download more RAM .

  • This turbo variant doesn't seem to have GPS capability and 4G/LTE support. Can anyone confirm?

    • I'm certain it has GPS. Probably worth messaging the store to confirm.

  • Not sure if this will work but feel free to have a crack at this code: A6JPVF6A9BGM and let us know how many dollarydoos it comes to.
