45W for $25 is also good value for those who need faster charging

    • Oh you beat me to my comment below.

Also available. SJÖSS 45W Dual USB C. One USB-C outlet in use – 45W, and two USB-C outlets in use – 22W. https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/sjoess-45w-2-port-usb-charger-f…

Sjöss meaning "sea (C)" in Swedish. Quite funny as a Swede looking at their naming. LADDA meaning charge which i think most ozbargainers having a few of. BILLY meaning cheap. Lots is also just places around Sweden.

    • +2

I know "Sjöss" is pronounced nothing like OP's "hoose". No idea why IKEA would choose this word for a common household item when 99.9% of people would not pronounce it even remotely close.

      • lol yeah 'hoose' is not even close

        • What does it sound like? Youtube videos, they pronounced it as hoose.

          • @Dollar Dreamer: Don't think you you tubing correct word. The sj in the beginning is more like if blowing a candle out but move tongue much further back to make it almost sound like white noise. as English dont have a similar sounding its hard to explain. The ö in this word sound quite similar to a very fast sounding u in word murder. The ss is also similar but not same as example missus, as the ss is sjöss is much lower tone. Almost like a slight whistle but with tongue and no lips.

Wtf. Reading this explanation can take you anywhere haha. Listen to Stewie saying cow whip. The "wh"ips is similar to the sj.

I should've just not post this :) meh. What's fun with that.

    • Billy Skate?

      • That's us, The real OZB!

    • My best attempt at typing out the pronunciation (på min Ölandska) is:
      “Hwurce”

      Sj = hw
      Ö = ur or err (it’s a vowel)
      ss = ce

  • not sure about this sjoss brand

    • +2

This has to be better than the Heymix USB-C chargers though, no?

      • I have very good experience with heymix actually, been using them for more than a year

        • +4

          I've had 4 x Heymix HDD15-3-PD USB-C chargers.

1 was DOA, 2 died within a year, 1 remains, but has given me a few shocks, so it sits in the cupboard as an emergency spare.

          • +2

@besttechadvisor: Bic lighter might be more reliable as an emergency spare fire starter.

            • +1

@aragorn: lol, no… I will use it as a taser if my house is robbed.

              • @besttechadvisor: On a serious note, it's not worth the risk to self or a family member if it has shocked you already. See my comment below for a $12 charger at officeworks.

          • @besttechadvisor: Interesting, I’ve been using 2 of their 65w chargers and 3 of their 100w Charger/traver adapter and they’ve been good for me so far, charging my phone, steam deck and powering some external monitors etc etc . Should I be worried about using them? :D

            • +1

@Sr1993e: Use them while you're around, then touch them and see if they're getting hot. If not, you're probably fine. If yes, I wouldn't leave them running alone.

But if you're not having issues, then you're not having issues. Still, I recommend against buying anymore.

May stack with $5 off online delivery from here (if you have the points): https://www.ikea.com/au/en/loyalty-hub/rewards/5658/

    • It does. I have $5 off postage and $10 off postage offer, I also have free meatball meal offer on my Ikea account as well. They really want you to come and visit the store lol. I used the $5 off to get free postage, buying 1 of each charger.

The noosle at the end of the hoose!

Review. Conclusion: 45W good value, 30W not so.

    • +4

45W is more solidly built for sure but 30W is 10 bucks and works just fine with micro percentage differences in measurements between the top models and this Ikea 10 buck one. Also remember the above is an American 120v review. Here is a 240v (German) review. Turn on auto translate on Youtube to English. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLhFK_yyZN8

      Why so serious, Quokka? :-)

  • Updated description to include 45W model as well.

  • +4

Ikea makes ok products me thinks. Don't think this one will burn your house down.

If the house (sic) did burn down, their business is to sell you all the household items that had perished.

This sounds like software virus scanners, writing the viruses themselves !

Anyone tried this one from Bunnings? $9.90 for a 45W dual charger (one USB-C one USB-A)

    Or this one, 65W, triple, 2 x USB-C, 1 x USB-A from Kogan

Both appear to be better value than this. But of course some people will trust IKEA more…

Edit: it appears Bunnings has different prices for this item in different locations. My local has it for $9.90, elsewhere it costs $11.95.

    • +1

I've been rocking two 65w from kogan (looks diff so maybe an older model) for some time now, works great no complaints

    • that kogan one looks interesting i just might buy two!

    • +2

Bunnings is only 27w PD, so no. it is not great.

  • +2

I was expecting these in Australia after they became available overseas. I may be wrong but it appears that the orientation of these chargers is likely to impede access to adjacent power points, they could have oriented the adapter to 90 degrees relative to the current orientation, good value though for single port charger -$10.
Some may prefer 1 USB A port with USB c port(s), for those this may be a good deal ($12, 30w, 4 colors available) - https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/otto-30w-2-port-usb-c-usb-a-wall-charger-euphoric-leaf-otwac003pr

    • A lot of my powerpoints are along the skirting board, so any chargers that have their ports facing downwards cannot even be plugged into the wall. Will have to live with it blocking the adjacent powerpoint.

      • I assume this means it'll block neighbouring power points on a standard power board too :-(

    • Is that a PD charger?

      • Yes

    • I may be wrong but it appears that the orientation of these chargers is likely to impede access to adjacent power points,

Looking at the photos it looks like it's the same width as a normal plug

      • The third photo on the website is likely of EU plug type. Other photos shows that the adapter is wider than the au type prongs below. I'd say that the adapter will partially block adjacent power points, although I could be wrong

    • I got the SJÖSS 45W 2 port charger. It's 55mm wide and definitely blocks the adjacent outlet on a typical Australian double power point. At least it doesn't block access to the power switch like some vertically oriented devices.

If you're happy with having just a single usb C output then I recommend grabbing one of these - 65W USB Type C AC Charger Fit for… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B095NRSTYB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_s…

I picked one up last week after spotting it amongst the amazon deals and figured that even though it is listed as a dell model specific charger - that it being 65W and USB-C and the price was only $20 it was worth a gamble.

It fast charges all of my devices that support it - pixel 8 pro, chromebook etc.

    • +2

The IKEA chargers will have an RCM and be compliant with Aust standards, your charger I would suspect not.

      • +1

The gamble isn't whether it works, it's whether it spontaneously combusts.

        • Agreed

  • ($5 C&C under $50 Spend
They really implemented a fee to click and collect?

    That's mean

    • +1

Would you want to walk two kilometres in your place of work to collect a $10 charger?

      • I have seriously gotten lost in Ikea 2 times. Best tip someone gave me, never ever change direction away from the path once you enter. Crab walk if you have to, to get near the item you want.

  • +2

Get a zyron. Same size but lots of ports

    • difficult to get reviews of this brand from mainstream sources

      • I just go Ugreen these days. Plenty of reviews on Amazon so I am reasonably confident

      • Very mixed reviews of Zyron post sales customer service if something goes wrong too, if buying direct rather than from Amazon.

    • Noice, I have referenced you in the description.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/click-45w-dual-wall-charger_p060…

bunnings has these, they're $12 on the website but was only $10 in-store at Nunawading when I went on Monday. The description is weird, but I think the "27W USB C port" is only when the USB-A port is in use. the USB-C port can do 45W just fine if nothing else is plugged in.

    https://nrby.in/bunnings/0609485

(Testing with my FNB58, the charger reports as being able to do 49.5W and in reality was pushing 41W into my laptop)

  • I would grab one if it is Amzaon. Sorry IKEA

    • Can we tempt you with some meatballs?

    • -1

When its AmazonBasics branded, it'll cost twice as much as Ikea

  • +3

Youtube reviewer TechTest has shown graphs that the Ikea 45W Charger is even more efficient at charging than the Ugreen Nexode dual USB-C 45W and the Anker 523 47W dual USB-C charger. Which bodes well for this elcheapo Ikea 45W model. Screenshot from the end of the video. https://imgur.com/a/hgAhvoH

You're all debating mere tolerances in electronic components.. For those who actually know what's going on, know that AC~>DC then DC-DC buck/boost, at a software level, without the inefficiencies of linear transformation, and nowhere near the space or cost for the efficiency of a switch mode, would just shut up and comparing YouTubes to blog posts and crap….

It's simple. Don't cheap out. Massive amounts of heat are generated due to the inefficiencies. I'm actually about to install "my own" premade transformer, but I'm planning to wrap in thermal tape before stuffing into tiny mints tin possibly with some fins if I can make something look decent.

  • Thanks

  • +1

How about this ikea charger compared to this ugreen 30W nexode?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/UGREEN-25427-30W-GaN-Charger/dp/B0…

I just bought this yesterday for my google pixel, so it's my first day trying.

Dumb question, if my device can be charged up to 30W, there is no point to buy the 45W right?

    • +1

It's maybe worth buying if you use two ports regularly and don't mind a slightly slower charge, as it splits the 45w to 22w for each port.

If you use just one port, it's not worth it as it'll top put at 30w. I'd just get the cheaper 30w in the OP or, if you don't mind paying a little more, the Anker one you've shown is almost half the length and smaller in every other some dimension so much more portable.

  • +2

These are pretty darn good for the price, been using them for a few months now. The 30W model is pretty compact and won't block adjacent power points, but the 45W one only works with a limited selection of power plugs without getting in the way. The 45W model will always power cycle all ports when a new load is connected or disconnected to re-negotiate output power/voltage, which is very common but still mildly annoying for some use cases.

  • How do you even type the :O on a keyboard?

    Sjoss in Australia.

    • Not sure about the shortcut. As a Swede I change keyboard language. There are only 3 more letters in swedish. Åå Ää Öö. Sjöss

      • Haha, read comments under. Off course easier would be to hold in o or a to get the extra configurations. I usually change keyboard as pain when typing all in swedish and aldo the autocorrect goes crazy otherwise.

    • +1

      The same way all Unicode characters are typed but using its unique code;

      Alt+0246

That is, hold down Alt, the press 0246 and release

      • +1

FYI you need to use the numpad to type 0246; the regular number keys won't work.

    • On macOS or iOS, just press and hold down on the key.
      https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mh27474/mac

      • Most android keyboards are the same. Press and hold.

  • While they are great for the price etc, what is the deal? It is just the normal price.

  • The moose!?!
    Is this right?
    The noodles? What noodles!
