  • I bought the Samsung S9 i7 (exact same model) for $1080 from JB Hifi about a month ago. I say NO DEAL. These are runout as current model has 256gb SSD and ships with W8.

    • Not saying you are lying, but out of interest:
Was it on their catalogue? Or you purchased it with your excellent bargaining skill? From what i can see on staticice & ozbargain post,

Current lowest price for this Samsung model:
      staticice - $1199

ozbargain previous lowest priced post - $1149

      • Sorry, didn't see the reply.

No bargaining, the week that W8 came out, JB were getting rid of all laptops that came pre-loaded with W7. Wasn't advertised, I went in looking for headphones and saw them piled up with clearance on them, told the guy what I was looking for and they had one that suited. Other retailers were offering W8 as a free upgrade, JB just got rid of the stock.

@Gwunny, no, but he gave me a nice sleeve for about half price as well.

    • Did you get a backpack?

  • The Ultrabook deal is pretty nice. Sadly…I have no need for one, nor the money to afford it, though I would like one to replace my current laptop.

EDIT: Why do manufacturers give us some USB 3 ports and some USB 2 ports? Why not just make all of them USB 3…

    • I'm fine with some USB2 and some USB3 slots.
The USB2 are used for things which doesn't need the high speed like wireless mouse dongle or charging a phone. And the USB3 are for connection flash drives and external HDD

  • throw in a free backpack, USB3 etc or something similar with the samsung, since you know the previous best was $50 cheaper and prices go down not up, particularly for run out models with W7. You might get some interest then.

    • Willing to throw in the free backpack just for the sake of sweetening the deal.

However, there was no further comment about how he got the price. If it is a single time pricing - then it does not justify that as a price everyone can get, it was only a bargain for him. It could be individual JB Hifi stores clearing on hand stock.

Similar New Windows 8 model with 256Gb is selling around 2 grand at the moment, while it only charge you $15 to upgrade online to windows 8 on these ultrabooks…

      • Good work. Just one more question. can you upgrade the SSD? if so how much $?

        • Hi blackwalnut,

Thanks. We upgrade SSD with a service charge (link below). It would included swapping the O/S and testing the new SSD for you piror dispatch.

        • You will have to factor in the cost of the SSD as well.

Looking at Shopping Express they do not seem to offer any MSATA SSD's, if SE did supply a MSATA I could imagine it being around $250 or greater so factor around $300 additional for upgraded SSD.

The other question would then be is does shopping express then send you the SSD that just got replaced or do they pocket the now redundant drive?

  • I think the samsung is a good price, cheaper than Flingshot deal a couple weeks back and with a free backpack!

  • +1

Any deal on Samsung Series 9 13.3 inches?

    • +1

Not yet, we've only brought in these 15 inch models for our promotion this time.

      • I will wait for 13.3" model special. Hopefully better offer than previous deal from Flingshot :)

  • Any I5 deal with a USB3 port?
