Mobiles That Still Work

Lots of posts about phones that no longer work because of carrier bans. But which do and on which carrier? Update the list please.

Comments

      • Yeah, I texted "3" to the 3498 number and it said my phone is impacted and I will need a new phone to stay connected. But it's still working fine.

        • It seems they're banning devices by region… It even seems that 3G is still operational in areas.
If you've been getting messages, it's almost guaranteed that your phone will be blocked in the near future.

    • dupe FFS

    • My Sharp Aquos S3 got blocked (Amaysim) this morning after taking out the sim to try in another phone then putting it back in.

So I would suggest don't even turn it off.

    • When 2G was shutdown it still worked until late afternoon.

    • Which device do you have?

  • Oppo 12 5G fine

  • Honor Magic Pro 5 working as single SIM with Telstra as per this morning. However when Optus sim card inserted as 2nd sim card, phone can't access BOTH Optus and Telstra. Somehow Optus sim card impacting other channel too. Strange!

  • Phone is fine.

    • Ironically, communication skills are not.

This is a complete (profanity) up isn't it. I don't want to say it's albanese but I'm pretty sure it's albanese.

    • If anything it will be because government -federal- flogged the spectrum for megabucks.

So Telstra/ Optus etc have been trimming engineers and tons of other associated workers to cut costs and pay dividends etc.

Started years ago with Sol the Mexican.

So now just the bare minimum is done to keep it humming along and this shamoz is indirectly part of this.

Sol Trujillo actually created the mess.
Many other countries have similar issues. Switzerland for example has a few small villages that never ever permitted phone towers. As they must have emergency services by law they have 2G cells that offer services from villages nearby, phone and text only, no data. My brother is an electrical engineer there and his girlfriend would never allow me to approach her house having 5G switched on. Stubborn people everywhere.

  • Xiaomi mi11 ultra working on Telstra and Optus/amaysim

  • Xiaomi Poco F4 still working on Everyday Mobile (Telstra Wholesale). Got messages telling me I needed to upgrade right up until the 31st, each with more urgency.

Don't know if it would do a lot but here is a petition someone else has started

I just want to be able to use custom roms and my compatible devices, Telco's need to work out how to be less restrictive / more supportive with IMS registration. My MI9T from JB Hi-Fi works perfectly including being able to do VoLTE calls to 000, The banning of such devices is just anti-consumer and needs to be revisited.

    • Yes love my Mi 9T but the battery is showing it's age a bit now. I've been blocked from Amaysim (Optus) so going to port to Vodafone on the 16th & see if it works.

      • I've got the Redmi k20pro, CN version. Mi 9T is the global version of k20, Mi 9T Pro is the global version of k20pro. Mine still work with catch connect(Optus) as of today. But my other phone, Redmi note 9 5G is blocked yesterday.

Xiaomi really let us down with Mi 9T.
Their Android 11 update that killed Telstra VoLTE may well be the only reason why it's on the blacklist.
I think the blame needs to be shared between manufacturer, carrier and government.

Such a good phone, still absolutely relevant today.
I upgraded to Pixel 8Pro solely for to this shitdown and coming from Mi9T ribbing PixelOS. The difference is immeasurable

Sill using the MI9T, Just had to force the correct MBN config. It's still in the phone but defaulting to a Generic on on the MIUI 12 global rom.

Just has to use ADBAppControl to install Xiaomi's Android 11 MBN Test suite from APKMIRROR, then make it a accessible shortcut via shortcut maker from the play store. Scrolled till I found Telstra_Australia_Commercial, Activate and validate Sub 1. Boom 4G VOLTE, VOWIFI and E000 VOLTE Calling.

Am having issues on custom roms (Can't find a on device method for changing the MBN) but the MBN is in the Modem partition so is still possible, funnily enough the MI9T's global rom is the go to for MBN config files as they are easy to access.

        • I expect it will still be blocked in the future as they aren't blocking based on actual capability, instead they're blocking on assumed capability (ie the capability if the device isn't hacked to work).
But even so, I'm interested to learn that you managed to do this. I tried to work out how to re-enable the Telstra MBN but never got anywhere.

        • Is your Mi 9T Australian stock or Grey Import?
Perhaps is it's Australian stock they are listed as being compatible by Telstra (as they were compatible when sold, it was only the software update, which I assume happened after they'd finished selling in store, that bricked Telstra VoLTE)

        • Just did a TAC check on my JB HiFi Mi9T and it passed!

I'm going to look more into this now! What a ridiculous situation this all is!

        • I've tried this method on my Global Mi 9T and it unfortunately did not work for me.

I just installed the APK for the MBN test suite via installing an APK normally though. I don't know if that would have made any difference?

EDIT: Tried again and have volte working :D

        • Confirmed that this works.
My phone appears to have defaulted to the Telstra MBN, so my next test is to re-flash to a Custom ROM,

  • Waiting for my new Optus X Pro to come. Just in time as well.

My Redmi Note 10 4G has been bricked by Telstra… but it still calls 000 OK. ..on Telstra ..🫢 ..??!!

      1. The phone hasn't been "bricked"

      2. How do you know it calls 000 OK - without calling 000?

    • Yep, because Telstra are just blocking models en masse even when many of them still work with E000 over 4G. Mine also in this situation.

My Redmi k20pro bought in China miraculously still works on catch(optus) 4g as of 1AM 5th of Nov.

And now it is not. No signal on optus. Spoke too soon.

Check out our chat regarding Mi 9T (non Pro) a bit further down this thread.
Final MIUI is working with full VoLTE and VoWiFi on Telstra, and Telstra's checker indicates compatibility.
Could be the same solution for you.

  • Wolfhead pad f3 still works with my data share Sim. Happy days.

  • Poco x3 pro is still working on Woolworths (Telstra) mobile. Saw an earlier post saying not working for Optus…maybe try plugging in ##86583##. When I did that, a little VoLTE icon appears permanently on the top bar of my phone. Not sure whether it helps or whether just a Telstra v Optus network thing. Solution might be to port across? All the best.

    • The stars in the volte activation code don't seem to publish in my comment. Need to google that solution for the full code.

  • What a stuff up by all involved.

I just realised I have a Redmi Note 10 pro, Model M2101K6G and I was with Amaysim but they moved me to someone else. It's on the Optus Network.

Hope it can still call 000 in an emergency, guess I'll find out at the time ……….

    • Amaysim has always been on the Optus network.
They were bought out a few years ago and are now a wholly owned subsidiary of Optus.

  • Well my Poco X5 5g was blocked by telstra but still working on optus (circles). For now…
Haven't seen or heard much about this apart from the first week. I guess impacted people can't really call anyone to complain.
