Amino Z WPI Protein Acne?

Know there's alot of people here who take amino Z WPI. I'm a massive fan of the taste and have 5kg worth. I started taking 2 scoops a day mixed with water and noticed that I've broke out heavily in acne. Alot of jawline acne/bacne. (I don't take any other "supplements" FYI).

My routine is the same as it was before and I shower right after the gym and whatnot. I swapped back to my bulk nutrients (which now tastes bad in comparison) and acne went down a bit after a couple weeks. Not knocking amino Z as it's a killer product and I'm guessing it could be something I'm allergic to but wondering if anyone has had the same reaction. Just wanted to confirm to see whether or not I give it another shot or get rid of all my bags which would be a shame.

  • Can’t say I’ve had any issues and I am having this brand protein and creatine everyday

    • Doing the protein + creatine+ pwo everyday as well.

  • There's a popular Reddit solution of placing a clean towel over your pillow each night. But it sounds like a myth to me. Try it out and let us know.

Some people get acne from dairy. Protein powders have a high concentration of whey. It’s not the brand of powder, it’s the dairy in the powder (although there are other potential causes)

The best option to test it is to back off the amount of protein powder. Eat some chicken or something instead. Or get a non dairy powder and see how you do.

You don’t have to stop completely if reducing the quantity works. Just do so experiments and see what happens

    • When I swapped back to my old WPI protein (bulk nutrients) it died down a bit. I've been taking protein for over 10 years and haven't run into an issue.

      • once the acne dies down to 0, try aminoz again. If acne flares up, then you know it's time to chuck or giveaway the Aminoz protein powder.

I am taking two scoops per day and never had this concern. Don't mix this with Anavar

    • I have 2 to 3 wpi a day, 1x casein plus drol. No issues

  • Never had any issues, might be worth b trading @AminoZ see if they know any of the chemistry that might be at work. They are pretty knowledgeable.

I'll take any extra you want to get rid of :)

  • I haven't had any issues with AminoZ WPI but I started getting acne when I started taking a protein blend a few years back. I think it was Vital Strength Total, so I just swapped to another brand and it went away. Pity as I really liked the flavour. Usually just an ingredient that triggers the reaction. Not sure which one it was. So I usually just buy a kilo when testing a new powder.

  • No issues here either, been taking WPI Amino Z for years.

The only way to know its the protein is to have the process of elimination and this can be a lengthy yet rewarding task. Just like how I manage to find out im lactose intolerant (fast process).

My advice is, put Amino Z aside, put any other WPI you have aside as well (your bulk nutrient). Try get your protein from wholefoods for now, if your acne fully goes away, you know it's the WPI. Then maybe you need to switch to an alternative WPI such as plant based or vegan or soy or whatever alternatives are out there

I used to have stomach aches with WPI cause I mixed it with full fat milk and I blamed the supplements from Optimum Nutrition, Max's and other brands. Then someone told me I may be lactose intolerant, then I swtiched to lactose-free milk and now I have I mix it with water……. No issues since and I avoid lactose.

  • I know this is an old post — but just interested if you tried taking a few weeks off, and could report back? Always nice to provide a follow up when others have given you advice.

Personally, I doubt it's anything to do with the WPI, unless it's affecting your insulin/IGF-1 levels. If you cared enough, you could have them tested.

It is slightly more likely that it's something in the particular flavour of WPI that's causing the breakout — you didn't mention which flavour, but most of Amino Z's (delicious) flavours use a high amount of xantham gum, which I have anecdotally heard triggers acne for some people (most likely via digestive upset).

Also — you said you're not taking any supplements, but you should be taking creatine. Everyone who lifts should :-)

  • I’ve been through a few flavours with no issues (liked them all except iced coffee) and got onto banana a bit over a month ago and have been getting acne since about a week after I got on it. And I never ever get acne. Figured it out last week and swapped to my almost empty cookies and cream bag and the acne has gone.

Not sure if it’s specific to me and I’m allergic to something in there or if it’s got some ingredient that affects people (ie not just me) more than other flavours but the rest of that bags gone in the bin now.

Hopefully another sale comes around because I’ve only got about 15-20 scoops left :’o

@aminozcomau any idea when the next sale will be? Might have to get a few bags to tide me over if not anytime soon

@uniqueusername17, thanks for pinging me, I didn't see this forum post previously.

In summary, we don't currently have any firm plans around the next WPI sale.

WPI supply and pricing globally is horrid. I've had a couple of meetings with suppliers since my last update (on the Boxing Day promo we last ran), and raw material pricing has further risen with exceptionally limited global supply for at least the next 3-6 months. On top of that, there have been restrictions placed in Australia for the import of dairy from Germany, Hungary and Slovakia which may place further strain on pricing and supply.

It's currently at the point where we are getting hit up by other companies asking if we have any WPI to spare (which we don't…we have just enough for our regular sell-through). I have also now seen a couple of other Aussie retailers announce notable 2025 price rises on dairy based proteins.

We aren't currently in the position to be offering any form of WPI promotion until the supply and pricing situation eases. I do expect matters to improve, but no one knows when exactly.

What we are doing in the meantime is working on a new whey product off the back of a bunch of feedback we've received here on OzBargain, that will also come in more price competitive. We haven't determined the exact formulation just yet, but by way of example, WPC has not been nearly as badly affected as WPI, so it's likely that WPC will be an ingredient. That said, any form of OzBargain promotion on this will still be months away as the product development process does take a while.

Anyway, I hope this provides some background and insight on this. I cannot wait for us to be able to run our next promotion and we are working hard to put something together. Thank you for asking!

        • Hey Jay, doesn't sound like a good time for the WPI industry!

I've just tried to place an order for 3kgs and keep getting the below message on Chrome and the one under that on Edge.

An error occurred while creating new token. Please try again. (Error message: Invalid CVN)

An error occurred while making the transaction. Please try again. (Error message: There is an error in making API request: Operation timed out after 60001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received)

Not sure whats happening but will try again tomorrow.

Just to give you a bit of feedback I would not be interested in WPC, for me and most people I know its WPI or nada. However I am just a small sample size so you do you but thought i'd share.

Thanks mate, fingers crossed the dairy industry sorts itself out.

          • @uniqueusername17: Sorry about the issue at checkout.

Looks like an issue connecting to our payment gateway. Could you let me know if this persists? Feel free to shoot over a DM and we can assist manually.

As for the WPI, the general talk in the industry is that it is at an unsustainable price. So I am certainly hopeful that there will be some good news, at least later this year. I guess we will see what happens.

Thanks in advance for the new order!

            • @aminozcomau: Hi Jay,

Sorry to hijack this thread - and realize it's 5 days old

I say it is about time you posted a deal!
I look forward to your WPC product deal soon - especially with good/ competitive pricing.

Don't leave us hanging too long :)

              Cheers

                @YoursTruly: Hi @YoursTruly,

Well we are doing everything we can to develop an alternative and something we can promote here on OzBargain.

We are doing our best not to stay too inactive on here as I know we have a lot of amazing supporters. But at the same time, we don't want to put together a substandard offer either.

Thanks as always for the support.

                Jay

    • Hey thanks for the reply mate, all good. I'm not sure if I had a bad batch or flavour that irritated me or something. I only started having one particular flavour since then and picked up my usage again and it's been fine.

      Cheers

      • Oh okay, good to hear. But please don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any other issues.

I will pass this thread along to our team too, it's good feedback for us to be aware of. Appreciate the support.
