Wish i needed a graphics card!!

  • Just got it ! Missed out on the earlier Gigabyte one, but this is cheaper ! Probably doesn't include the 3 free games ? Not that I mind, I've got 2 of the 3 games anyway. Oh forgot to mention that this is not the newer gigahertz model, but I'm sure I can OC the 925mhz core to 1000mhz

    • The earlier ones doesn't include the games either assuming you're referring to the $350 one. The only benefit is the previous comes pre overclocked but this is an amazing deal regardless. OZB!

These things are dropping in price soooo FAST!! why?

    • +1

Because they are computer parts and a newer version is out.most computer parts will halve in price every 2 years and this card has kept its price for a year now.

  • great deal.
    Pity I missed this one.

< $300 is good also for tax reasons, if you're putting it into a business machine.

  • ARrhghh!

  • rep how many were there for sale?

  • Would the Galaxy GTX 670GC be a worthy alernative (also posted on OzB a few days ago) for ~$340? Or, should I wait for another round of 7970 deals?

Kicking myself as I missed this by a few minutes :(

  • Got a Gigabyte 7950 OC from Amazon instead for ~$290 including the Never Settle bundle so happy with that. Card is a good overclocker due to the fan as well from what reviews say so in theory I should be able to get it up to the 7970 speeds. It was an alright substitute for the deal I missed out on I suppose.

    • Link?

$313.20USD shipped which becomes ~$296.56AUD if you use 28 degrees card.

I bought a few other items off Amazon so ended up saving on shipping which got me the rough ~$290 estimate. The card is around $325 (not including shipping) locally so may be better choice to buy here.

        • I ended up getting a PowerColor 5950 (Boost? edition) for ~$320 from PCCG. It gets fairly good reviews and is able to be OC'd even further (pretty easily). As Havoc mentioned, it comes with the Never Settle bundle which is able to sold on eBay for ~$40-60, or kept for ones self. I figured I want a card that I can get Ultra graphics playing BF3, but I wasn't prepared to fork out more for a card that won't be used a lot once the next uni year comes around.

  • Why not just get the VTX3D 7950 Boost (is practically the same as the powercolor one) for around $313 shipped from pccasegear.com.au

Comes with never settle bundle and aus warranty :)

Is what I did this morning after getting screwed by centrecom and missing out on all the other good deals xD

    • That is a good deal but I don't like dealing with PCCG. I will no doubt get negged for talking bad about PCCG but have had bad dealings in the past and have also seen others in the same situation so I choose to stay away from them.

I bought from Amazon because it was cheaper than local and I was also buying a few other items from Amazon too so I saved a bit on shipping all together. Gigabyte has international warranty from what I've heard but if not, Amazon are a pleasure to deal with when processing returns.

Anyways, congrats on your purchase and for those who got in on this deal at esold! :)

    • Is that able to be OC'd even more to say a factory OC'd 7970? And is it relatively easy to do?

Or is the GTX 670GC for ~$340 a better option?

    • Get this instead, $309

I was about to pull the trigger tonight on the above card, as when the 900mhz GPU is OCed to 1000mhz its only about 5% slower than a 7970. Lucky break that I got a 7970 that was even cheaper than the 7950. Probably a reference design (7970), hope it hits 1000mhz

      • Is it a stable 1000mhz OC though?

I am a complete noob at OC'ing. I was disappointed to miss out on the 7970 listed, but if I can OC it to just under a 7970 AND get the free Never Settle bundle (which I can offload on eBay) then that might ease my pain.

Is a ~$323 (err, $270 after selling games on eBay) AMD 7950 (which I can OC) better than a ~$340 GTX 670 OC? Anyone?

  • I've never heard of Powercolour before. Can anyone comment on their quality?

  • +2

Powercolor have been around for many years (have owned them in the past), they are usually just use reference boards and coolers (use designs straight from AMD/Nvidia). They are usually one of the cheaper brands, with basic features and warranty.

  • Damn.
Was actually looking to buy this card for a new build, you think this deal will be back on again?

    • No chance. Not from this vendor.
