This seems to be a very good price for an AKG K701. However I am not sure how much shipping costs.

slaps forehead and here I was thinking I was getting a pair of Q701's for $325 locally as a really good price..
For those who have never owned a pair of headphones like these (ie $200+) be prepared to have eargasms…

You will appreciate sound and detail in music that previously with cheap headsets you would not have heard before…

    a + from me

    Love these headphone deals lately

Definitely great set of phones - but like the HD650s, make sure you properly amp them to get the best out of them.

Sources say they require lots of burn-in as well. Not to get into a debate over whether there is such a phenomenon - just saying if they sound like crap when you open them out of the box, dont throw them away - try running pink noise through them for 150-200 hours

    • I would go further and say DON'T BOTHER with the K701 unless you're prepared to buy an amp.

I'm not convinced about burn-in, but it doesn't hurt.

  • Holy hell, all these deals for headphones are killing me. These might seem like a better fit for me, 150-200 hours burn is beyond my patience. May reconsider the hd650 and just get a good desktop amp instead.

    • but the sales of hd650 expired.

    • Assuming you even believe in burn in that is. It's not like they'd sound bad out of the box either way.

    WTB ATH-AD900 deal :(

  • My friend bought it for $350 in oz store, and the $350 was on half price sale. this price is good.

  • Can anyone recommend an amp for this? Budget wise..

      Evening Ksirc,

I normally have my Q701's (which are similar to the K701's) connected directly to my motherboards output (which fortunately has enough power to drive sufficiently).

I do have this little amp I purchased a while back http://www.jaben.com.au/products/bro-hybridtube (Bravo Ocean Hybrid Tube Class A Amplifier which Jaben sells for $120) which at the time was bundled with the DR150 headphones for a really good price.. Admittedly I don't know what would be considered a budget priced amplifier (either portable or mains powered).

Is there a difference? Yes, the amplifier gives more 'oomph' and the audio sounds less flat (across board frequency wise but the big oomphness is on the lower frequencies)

That is not to say that running it unamplified is bad, the audio is still amazing however you get more mileage with an amplifier. Hopefully whatever you have your planning on running

Connecting to my watt power meter the unit consumes around 10 watts.

Hope this helps - if you have any questions feel free to ask..

Something from fiio if you budget is less than $100. O2 headphone amp if it's above. (I think around $130)

  • Got beyerdynamic dt880 premium 600ohm headphone delivered from Amazon last week for $250. Not sure which is the better deal? Anyone heard both and want to comment?

  • I got the AD900, really love it. However, it hurt my ear badly :( How this one compare with the Ad900?
