  • this review does not sound very good
    cut and paste below
The idea of using Android to make an iPod touch rival is nifty. Unfortunately, this device fails at nearly every turn. Awful camera, poor display, and underpowered processor add up to an awful device. It doesn't even meet the minimum requirements for Android 4.0 at a basic hardware level, despite launching long after Android 4's debut.

Didn't the maker lose $$$ in court (to Apple)?

        Not yet, they haven't.

Maybe they're just trying to maximize profit,

gasp You mean like any other manufacturer in the world?

so they can pay Apple & still be a going concern.

You think paying out $1B will mean the end for a massive conglomerate like Samsung. Right. More likely than not, it will just be considered the cost for becoming the top Android OEM, and that's if they even lose their appeal.

        (Speculation on my part…)

And poor speculation, at that. Galaxy Players have been manufactured by Samsung for two years now, they have absolutely nothing to do with the court case.

  • This review seemed to like it a little more:

Pros: Large display; Expandable memory; Excellent battery life; Video chat and VoIP

Cons: Feels a bit cheap and plasticky; Display colors are dull; Chunkier build than most pocketable devices

The Verdict: An iPod touch for Android aficionados, the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 has a large 5-inch screen and more than 10 hours of battery life.

It's interesting how the review has no mention of sound quality, that's what you are buying right?

      • Maybe for watching videos?

    I love you Samsung!
Even though my plasma has black lines going across it!

People still use plasma TVs ?! :P

        I am on CRT. ;-)

        • haha wow!
          really?
Are you using VHS as well?
My parents still use VHS to record shit.

        • +3

It'll really be shit on VHS!

      • LCD's still cannot match Plasmas for image quality.

  • These days with the quality of phones who really needs a mp3 player?
On another note though I'm happy with my Samsung Galaxy S2, portable hdd, series 5 Smart Tv & BluRay Surround. Except with the surround instead of an Ipod dock a Galaxy dock would have been a nice touch.

In this case, I'd guess -Samsung- does.

      ibid.

  • I wanted one of these a while back but luckily for me amazon wouldnt ship to Oz. Instead I got a s2. Imo a nexus7 would be a heaps better toy.

if someone really wants a 5 inch player, why not just buy a Note 1/2?

    • Have you seen the price of this thing?

I'm tempted to get one just to leave connected to my home amplifier for music streaming.

  • Nexus 7 is better, but not exactly the same thing.

I don't understand why people buy an ipod touch or this. Especially since there's so many android phones that have better specs for similar price or slightly more. I suppose the battery life is a bit better and the screen slightly larger than phones, so it has a few things in its favor.

  • The new iPod is better on pretty much every level.

Save your money and get a Galaxy Note 2 or S3.

  • 800x480 res kills the deal. It is not worth.
