Garmin GPSMap 62S Hand Held Outdoor GPS for $249 at DSE

This GPS is suited for outdoor like Hiking, Fishing, Kayaking, Geocaching. It will do Turn-by-Turn but is not suited for in car navigation like a Nuvi.

The Garmin GPS 62s is a great outdoor handheld GPS and for this price it is hard to beat. You will be lucky to get a second hand one for less than $300.

Easy to install OSM and Shonky maps for free. Will link in the comments of anyone is interested.

It's 3 axis compass is particularly good for Geocaching.

Powered by 2 x AA makes it easy to find battery's. Don't forget a pack of 8 Eneloops for $19.95 while at Dicky's to power it.

Price match at Anaconda for a 10% saving. (BTW Anaconda update prices real quick when they notice a price match)

DSE has free shipping for orders over $100 or just click and connect. Lots of stores still have them in stock.

Ask Q's in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.

  • Great unit. I own one. Paid close to $500 for mine!

  • In what ways is it poor for turn by turn navigation? I.e. will it do the job?

    • It only beeps when there is a turn. There is no voice guidance. Such a small screen there is not a lot of info that can be displayed.

It will do the job just fine. Will route as good as a Garmin Nuvi will.

You would not buy one of these for driving but if you had one you used for bush walking, on the farm etc it would be handy to use once in a while for turn by turn.

  • I can't imagine any possible use for it- on the rare occasions I go bushwalking I know exactly where I am- but I want it … BAD! Resist, resist.

  • Awesome, thanks OP. Got Anaconda to price beat it, used a $130 gift voucher I had for a grand total out of pocket expense of $94.10!!!! … Had my eye on one for ages but could not talk myself into $500 odd. At that price, I am wrapped. :)

  • i have the old model, very tempted to upgrade just to get a nicer screen!!
best think about these are you can find offroad maps online :)
