New Telsa Model Y (Juniper) Finally Leaked?

I'm back with more Tesla posts :).

Backend is very similar to the new Model 3 however the taillight extends the full length which is what was leaked months ago. Front is giving me Hyundai Kona vibes.

What are your thoughts on it?

Looks like Elon is starting to invade Greenland

    • +1

      Canada's days are numbered!

      • +3

        And Chermany

  • +7

Backside looks sleek. Not a fan of the front through - the light strip across the headlights gives me Cybertruck vibes.

    • +9

This is what happens when the billionaire CEO decides he's a better designer than the people with decades of experience in designing cars.

      • Currently putting those same kindy design skills to remapping the globe,Greenland,Panama and then onto Europe.
Maybe he is getting nostalgic for the good old days back in his childhood, behind the fence.

        • -1

Well, I'm afraid is kinda working …

          • -1

@LFO: It may well be, and that's just tickety boo, innit. What could possibly go wrong?

The Grand Wizard of tech has spoken

    • I prefer the front. Back looks weird with that fat plastic looking light bar. Should have just copied the Model 3.

    • +28

Imagine hating a car brand this much

  • +8

    What? No stainless flat panels?

Side note: first ride in a tesla 3 today. Holy moly that thing was fast and no noise!

    • Its truly an experience.
Driving the performance is next level.

      • +11

until you need to indicate or switch to reverse…

        • +1

Such a stupid decision. Yeah you can add it back, but I feel you shouldn't need to finish building a new car.

  • Is it on the new 48V platform?

    • ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Seems unlikely. Looks like this is a 'nose and tail' update. Id imagine the whole wiring system wluld beed a redesign for 48v. Most likely that would be a ground up design

Also, If it was, im sure there would have been some leaks about it by now.

      • Also, If it was, im sure there would have been some leaks about it by now.

There have been hardly any leaks about the MY 'refresh', so not sure why you think there would be leaks about the move to 48v.

Tesla run 48v in the Cybertruck, so with time the 3/Y will move to this as well. Looks like it will be on the next mayor update.

The cybertruck also gets a 800v pack, but looks like the Y kept the 400v pack as well.

        • Hardly any leaks because its just a new interior and lights. Nothing new, nothing to leak.

          • -1

            @Euphemistic:

Hardly any leaks because its just a new interior and lights. Nothing new, nothing to leak.

So why are you claiming that the 48v system wasn't leaked then? When nothing was leaked.

But LOL so a new interior and exterior front and rear is a 'nothing new' to leak about. Yeah nah.

            • -1

@JimmyF: I was speculating before the official release. Now that its announced, it isnt advertised as 48v, so there could not have been a leak about it.

As for new interior and lights, that is nornal for a mid life facelift for cars. Rarely gets leaked, because its not very exciting, just different. Things that do get 'leaked' are normally fairly significant upgrades, like new engines or transmission or a significant safety update and all the car journos start crowing about it.

      Wait till they crash.
It's like a lightning flash, a lightning flash

      • +1

Tell me your IQ is less than a 5th grader without telling me.

        • I think he's singing.

    • I don't know how much use a 48V platform really is in an EV. All the high demand components (motor, air conditioning, heating etc) are high voltage (400V).
48V only applies to the ancillaries and a lot of these (i.e. headlights) draw a lot less than they used to.

      • It's not about draw, the current platform uses ~ 80kg of copper wiring, the 48V platform only needs 20kg …

        Costs and weight savings …

        • I agree in the weight savings, but the majority of the copper is used in the drive train (motor/battery) and HVAC which would be unaffected by this change (it runs at HV). These savings would only be in the accessories circuit.

I reckon bigger savings could be made by switching to a 800V battery architecture, or by switching signalling from Canbus to PoE.

  • +1

Cool. I'm going to download one now.

  • +16

Thanks for the update. Still ultra fugly IMHO. The OG model S is still the only decent looking Tesla.

    • And Model X

    • The Roadster was ok too IMO

      • +3

The roadster was a modified lotus.

        • Exactly

  • +5

Looks rather close to the Ioniq and general Hyundai fleet tbh

    • +1

Yep, I thought the same. Seems like they're trying to copy their design which I'm not surprised by as the others look much nicer.

  • -4

If I buy do I get to be a megalomaniac like Elon?

  • Finally Self Driving aka FSD?

    • Next year

  • +2

Just looks like another Tesla. Nothing really noteworthy or remarkable.

    • +2

      Well it IS a Tesla… so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • What was the Apple / Android site to down load one?

  • +3

New Telsa Model Y (Juniper) Finally Leaked?

    Might be the battery fluid…

  • +2

Just when I thoguht Tesla vehicles could not get more ugly…. Elon goes and jumps the shark… again…

    • His working his way up to grotesque, to match his magnetic personality. He almost peaked at cybertruck time.(in more ways than one)

  • Front looks froggy still.

Back is better although it will depend on size, shape and colour of number plate.

Hope they fixed the horrendoes auto wipers.

  • Any reason to wait for this over the current model Y?

    • -2

worth waiting for if you hate indicator stalks

      • +5

This comment did not age well - new Y just announced and they kept the indicator stalks!

        • nice! TIL

        • +3

The move of the gear selector to the screen is very questionable, ew.

  • -1

    Looks awesome 😎

  • The new Model Y comes with powered rear seats.

    • +3

Sounds like a marketing gimmick. Add complexity and weight, negligible tangible benefit.

  • +4

They have officially announced it; I personally think it looks great. Maybe because the photos aren't as low resolution. New blue colour available too.

Got a call this morning from Tesla asking me pay $400 and delivery in May'25. Never owned an EV and recent launch of Zeekr 7x is making me think research more!

    • +1

All the Chinese EVs look sleek with 'cosmetic' appeal, but Tesla software is most mature.
The Chinese EVs are just good value for money.

This is coming from NOT a Tesla-fanboi nor an EV owner.

      • Maybe look at an Xpeng G6 mate

        • I don't only mean the UI , I also mean the mapping data, large datasets Tesla has accumulated, etc.

I sat inside the G6 at the Sydney EV auto-show (2024 October), but never drove one.

The G6 also looks like better priced too, but there were some quirks with the interior too (not that I like Tesla's interior either).

          • +1

@whyisave: No as in the self driving stuff they have in the Xpeng is probably on par for what you can do with it in Australia.

      • -1

As someone who has owned and driven both, the Chinese software are miles ahead.

        • How?

        • he meant the estimated range is many many miles ahead than actual ;-)

    • How do you know it was Tesla? Could be phishing.

    • Yeah don’t rush in yet. This year is going to see crazy EV deals. And let’s just say interesting move by Tesla to raise the MY price.

  • +2

Looks much better than the previous design, which looked like a fat model 3. I still don't like the look of the back though. That large, flat rectangular panel below the tail light looks dull.

  • +1

Just an appliance, who cares what it looks like. People buy it regardless, they bought it when it was the ugliest car in the world and they will keep buying it now

    • -1

Tesla's are the new camrys of the world: tell me your an npc, without telling me your an npc.

      • +1

Camry's are more exciting than Tesla's now.

        • Wow, thats actually true. Crazy times, i never in my lifetime thought the camry would get replaced as the king of dull lol

  • +1

    Looks like a BYD

  • Isn’t this on the Tesla site now

  • -6

    Elon for Australian PM!

  • Have they done the right thing and brought back physical buttons?

  • +3

As far as I can tell, the Juniper update doesn't appear to carry any improvements in actual battery capacity. There are small range improvements but these seem to be driven by efficiency optimisation.
There are cosmetic changes outside and some interior enhancements but otherwise kinda meh?

  • -2

Ok so they have viewed this as a way to improve margins - by a decent amount. Lol. Have they been tracking their sales/demand and the current competitive environment???

  • -4

Sorry but if I see any Tesla Junipers on the road I’m going to question your judgement….. regarding the LA fires, the smh is reporting Elon on X has “downplayed the role of climate change, placing blame on individual female firefighters of colour and lesbian firefighters, including publishing their names and faces. He boosted an hour-long propaganda video by right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones that claimed the fires were “part of a larger globalist plot” to cause the collapse of the United States; Musk replied simply, “True”. And he repeatedly amplified claims that the Los Angeles Fire Department’s investments in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs cost lives by wasting money that could have been spent on disaster response, suggesting that the destruction could have been mitigated if more white men had been retained.”

This is reckless, false and really inexcusable. Lets see the Tesla fan boys and girls justify this one.

    • +1

I think the LA Mayor has fired the Fire Chief as well now.

The fire department had also fired many fire-fighters who refused to participate in C-19 mandates too, and there's other 'diversity' stuff that was being promoted there.

Besides, all the diversity stuff is being wound back by Meta now, eg. removing colour schemes, allowing unfiltered comments about 'diversity', etc.

It's probably that the big corporations are realising their economy is too bad to keep pursuing their agendas.

M.Zuckerberg was on Joe Rogan saying they removed all injection opposition online (even if true), in the last few years, because "they were told to".

Suddenly, Meta is like "oh,..we were joking all this time,…we were always on your side".

      PS:
      I didn't neg you.

      • +1

I fully expect to get negged because Tesla/Elon fans don’t want to hear facts about their leader.

To your point, I don’t think a lack of personnel was the issue. LA was not equipped to handle 4 major fires with strong winds and no aerial support possible. But yeah MAGA will blame the dems and their progressive ideas because they are that powerful lmao.

    • So which bit is wrong?

      • Ok I’ll entertain you. The dems can’t win an election, not sure how they can pull off the collapse of the USA. And so what is it, a globalist plot or a diverse workforce that’s at faul? Maybe get your stories in order before coming online.

    • +1

The fact you're getting negged shows that people dont want the illusion of Tesla being the good guys broken. Tesla was supposed to be the good guys not the baddies. Facts are their very public leader is now heavily involved in politics and is blaming women for the fires in LA. Like, ding ding, you Tesla buyers are now the baddies for funding Elon and his agendas

  • +2

Why did Tesla rip of the Xpeng design? its literaly the same design

    https://electrek.co/2025/01/10/tesla-goes-full-circle-and-co…

    • +1

Revenge for xpeng copying tesla first

      • Thats pretty funny. Its almost like the designers at tesla arent happy with the business and did as little work as possible to get the new design out.

  • -1

Looks like it would get keyed easily

  • +1

Does Tesla accept payment in Dogecoins?
