    • Indeed. The price seems consistent with the promo starting 9th Jan.

    • oh god almost sub $2k with TRS. that is so temping hahaha

    • If paid witn gift card, what would be shown in OW invoice as payment? I need to claim the phone through salary packaging. Normally I bought through Apple gift card balance the invoice just shows payment method as “credit card” but not sure about OW. Thanks.

      • Just purchased using the celebration gift cards. Shows up as “credit account - VISA” in $200 increments on the receipt so should be fine.

        • Thank you

        • will using celebration gift cards qualify for TRS refund?

    • another 10% off : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/886999

which giftcard do you need to buy?

      Celebration, Ultimate Her, Him, Students,

    • Any idea how long does it take for Flybuys points to credit?

Do you think the places you shop don’t shop at Costco? So indirectly you are financing. Best to just burn your money.

      • -8

It is not just about Costco, it is about 'GOP entities or GOP influence' for US made items such as Apple, Tesla etc. How they say 'CCP entities or CCP influence' for China made items, that's the same rhetoric! Kips!

      • Don't worry about trolls. Responding will just give them the attention they want. Mate shit on everything they are not interested in but proudly posts about US made whiskey deals.

        • -6

Lovely troll, I can comment on any deal or post. BTW, I do not drink US made whiskey, I drink Scotch whisky.

Besides, the US can just sic the military whenever it wants, it's too big anyway.

Interesting to see iPhone discounts. Must not be selling too well. Time for apple to do something innovative!

    • +3

No you said the innovate word, they gonna remove something now. Removed the USB connection for your convenience, everyone has wireless anyways.

      • Then bring it back the following year and call it "their best iPhone yet".
I used to be stuck in the ecosystem until I sold everything I had a few days ago, I feel amazing.
Apple sheep need to watch Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy, they might then realise how they're getting brainwashed into thinking this product is worth the asking price.

          What do you use now?

          • -1

@Krazyy: Motorola ThinkPhone. It's currently on sale for $699 @ JB. Best Android phone I've ever used.

            • +1

@Maths Debater: How many android phones have you used? I thought you were an iPhone user?

              • -1

@Krazyy: I've been through phones like people go through tissues. ASUS, Google, Nothing and Samsung (also LG and Sony when they were around). After Motorola, I rate ASUS. I'm thinking about getting the ZenFone 11 Ultra. The rest didn't give me that feeling of wanting to keep them. I'm talking mid to flagship models too. Yep, I have a really bad spending problem lol.

Edit: I had iPhones alongside these Android phones when I wanted to switch to iOS. Trust me, these ecosystems are a rabbit hole you DO NOT want to go down. These weren't just phones I had either, I also purchased earphones and watches of the respective manufacturer. I was the perfect example of who these multinational corporations are trying to target, but not anymore. I've wiped my hands clean with it. When it comes to electronics, TVs are probably the only devices I'll continue burning money on.

                • +1

@Maths Debater: Yeah, I went through phones (mostly android) pretty quickly until I got my iPhone 13 when it launched. A mix of phones maturing and having little year-over-year upgrades and Apple's generous service program compensating for my bad luck with phone hardware means this is the longest I've had a phone without upgrading

                  • @robinbanks:

Apple's generous service program compensating for my bad luck with phone hardware means this is the longest I've had a phone without upgrading

how much you pay for the service program per year?
so if you drop the phone/crack screen etc they just replace it with the same iphone 13 refurb (that the fixed of some other phone)?
                    or they fix your phone?

iphone 13, 14, 15, 16 etc are all very similar with not that big of hardware upgrades
so now Apple is focusing on AI etc..

the iphone line has matured that there is very little hardware improvements they can make (other than introducing gimmicks like the Camera button)
the only compelling thing apple can do is bring out their own foldable phones.

Apple also takes a long time to introduce any major hardware improvements
instead they like to give small upgrades each year (to milk their customers/fans to keep buying a new phone each year)

I am guessing these Apple iphone 16 discounts is the result of poor or lower than expected sales
since people don't see much compelling reasons to ugprade from 13,14,15 to 16..
and Apple is known to hardly offer any discounts on their phones..

                    • @pinkybrain: I didn't buy any kind of extended warranty and I had a charge port issue at the 1.5 year mark, a water ingress issue at the 2 year mark and a radio issue at the 2.5 year mark and each time they've either repaired the phone or replaced it with functionally identical refurb on the spot. No charge. This isn't necessarily their policy though so YMMV, but I've found that if you're friendly with the people in the Apple shop they'll usually be generous and try to make you happy

I had similar issues with Android phones and you have to either send it away for months or they tell you stiff bikkies. They just don't have the same kind of support

                    • @pinkybrain:

Apple also takes a long time to introduce any major hardware improvements
instead they like to give small upgrades each year

I think the lack of constant change and progression is good. I want my phone to work and work well everyday. And my old iPhone SE (2020) does. But I’ll probably upgrade this year mostly due to the battery and storage.

(to milk their customers/fans to keep buying a new phone each year)

Also I disagree, if anything the lack of change means people are not upgrading as often. Apple will know this. I get the total fans and upgrade junkies will, but I see a heap of people on here (and others I know personally) who have older iPhones because they work well and there aren’t many compelling new features to necessitate an expensive upgrade. I don’t want a folding phone or even AI crud installed.

                      • @Corgsta:

I think the lack of constant change and progression is good.

No it's not a good thing,
lack of progressions just means Apple does not have anything new or major changes they can do to the phone anymore .. ie they are not innovating..
so there is not really any point bringing out a new phone each, other than to keep the cash rolling in from their die fans that wants to upgrade to a new phone each year…(and introducing new gimmick camera button) etc..

People like you are not the target that Apple or who I am talking about
since you aren't going to upgrade each year anyway

Also there are new technology that have existed a while now which other companies have implemented but Apple wants wait till like 5 devices later etc.. e.g. is the OLED M4 ipads which they only just brought out this year.. meanwhile brands like Samsung have OLED tablets for a long time now.

Apple is also very stingy in giving a major hardware spec increases..
E.g. They still selling 64GB base iDevices e.g ipad at very high prices..
meanwhile 128GB is the based storage of many android devices

They also only recently gave all iphone 16 models 8 GB ram (only because of Apple Intelligence requirements)
else the based models of iphone 16 might not have gotten 8 GB ram spec button.

Your idea of constant change or progression is incorrect..

Nobody saying apple needs to bring out a new design each year…
I am talking about spec increases are very small or none at all but they still want to sell a new phone each for $2K etc

Apple could have put 8GB ram in many of the earlier phones, but they didn't until iphone 16..
And iphone 12 was still selling with a based storage 64GB until iphone 13 increase it to 128GB..

The point is Apple is known to be very stingy with major spec increases (ie ram, storage) but still brings out a new phone each to milk their diehard fans to upgrade to the latest iphone for $2K etc.
and at the same time they hope to get customers that have not bought a iphone in a while or get some androids users to switch to Apple.

I want my phone to work and work well everyday.

Nothing is stopping your current phone from working if they bring out a new better spec phones..

Also I disagree, if anything the lack of change means people are not upgrading as often.
Apple will know this. I get the total fans and upgrade junkies will, but I see a heap of people on here (and others I know personally) who have older >iPhones because they work well and there aren’t many compelling new features to necessitate an expensive upgrade.

That is why the comment was not talking about people like you,
this is about the die hard fans who must get a new iphone each year that are trying to milk

I don’t want a folding phone or even AI crud installed.

                        So don't get it then..
The comment was about major hardware improvement (ie spec increases) not complete redesign of the phone each year.

No doubt Apple is working on folding phones right now in the labs, but not gonna released one until like 5 or 10 more years etc
and makes it seems like they invented folding phones when it gets released.

Apple also targeting AI, because there is very little compelling reason to ugprade from iphone 15 to iphone 16.
Even iphone 13 is good enough to use without needing to go the iphone 16.
So AI is a way they thinking they can differentiate with the iphone 16 from iphone 15 so they entice people to buy/upgrade to iphone 16

It's well known in tech that Apple don't bring out innovative new products early but waits for the tech to mature before bring out their own version
which does help with them in improving the product or tech when they finally release their own version
but no doubt that in the meantime they are milking their customers/fans each year with minimal hardware improvements..

                • @Maths Debater: what was your last Apple phone, watch and ipad model?

I had iPhones alongside these Android phones when I wanted to switch to iOS. Trust me, these ecosystems are a rabbit hole you DO NOT want to go down.

                  yeah this is true..

the problem though is Apple does make some high quality products that does not have same level of quality/specs in android/other (e.g. tablet, smart watch)

I am android phone fan (cos freedom to install my own apps) but I also own Apple ipads (cos android tablet is not as good as ipads specs, apps run better on ipad)..

However, I am thinking of switch to iphone (cos they seem to run better even on older hardware e.g. iphone 13 runs more smoother than s21 - it is really slow now etc).
Apple products also all work well together since Apple makes them..

If you own android phone (e.g samsung) and buy some earphones (from some other company) and smart watch (not samsung) or smart tags (not samsung) etc..
it does not integrate as well.. so you need to open the manufacturers own app to check your earphones battery etc

So you need to buy into the Samsung ecosystem etc to get the same integration like Apple integration etc..
which basically means you switch from Apple to Samsung ecosystem etc..

Also iphones has better resale value than android phones which is also another factor…

Need a membership to buy at Costco. price beat thing is store by store. Not all will do it and stock varies. Plus could have already got these prices with Apple and 8% gift cards sold a month or so ago with Apple providing a full price tax invoice better for claiming tax etc.

    • +3

If you order over the phone with officeworks, price beat with costco is guaranteed

      • Fair point. Never tried ordering anything over the phone since like the Internet was invented

      • can gift cards be used over the phone too or only in store ?

        • find doppelganger again

Buying from Costco… yes. ow no and they probably won’t ask or bother

  • Quick question. How do you price match this in person if no Officeworks in Sydney currently has stock for the 16 Pro model that you want?

    • Visit any store and place a click & collect or shipping order.

      • I asked in a local OW they said they won't price match for C&C, only if they have stock. And if you buy C&C then return and try to rebuy on the spot, they won't price match. This is what I was told by the OW staff.

        • Go to a different OW, I recently was told this too and they were finding every single way possible to deny the price beat guarantee. I went to a different OW and they did it for me. They had no stock in store but the warehouse had stock so the placed an order for me to C&C and did the price beat as well. Different managers, different rules….

    • If claim tax for work expenses or TRS better to buy full price from Apple Store or JB etc. and use gift cards with max discounts, fly buys points schemes.. End up cheaper in the long run.

      • Do JB give a full priced tax invoice even when paying with gift card? For refund purposes

        • Yes, but at the time of refund they probably will refund you in the form of a JB HIFI gift card, not cash.

          • @nomadspartan: Sorry, I meant for a tax refund. But thanks

          • @nomadspartan: sorry but no scams here please - gift cards aren’t an accepted/acceptable form of payment at the ABF

            • @tonester: Worked for me a few weeks ago. Used an e-gift card at JB and got a tax refund with no issues.

              • @tiramisu023:

gift cards aren’t an accepted/acceptable form of payment at the ABF

                  • @V001: surely you didn’t pay the ABF with gift cards, nor were refunded with them?

    • +1

Hmmmm I might have like 15 Ultimate gift cards collected over the past 3 years that I have to use off before it expires and then claim TRS when going overseas next month. Note to self - put name and address on receipt for purchase over $1000

      • +1

It seems they have droppped the requirement to have address on receipt. Just name or passport number will do.

      • +1

make sure you travel with a family to get TRS exemption beyond $900 per person.

  • Can I price beat over the phone and pay with giftcards in store?

    • Pretty sure you have to pay over the phone. Happy to be corrected.

  • -3

Do people still buy Iphones? Why?

    • +2

      Software stability, reliability, and longevity.

    • If not then what do ppl buy? Samsungs, Google? Bleh

    • Stuck in the ecosystem. I got out of Apple years ago but the wife has the mac book, ipad, watch, buds, etc.and is finding it difficult to ditch it all.

Though the flip phones are seriously turning her head.

  • It is possible that this year Apple will cut the price of iphone more than in previous years. At the end of last year, the price of iP16pm 256G in mainland China was just reduced to ¥74xx (about 1630 Australian dollars). After the release of iPhone SE4 (also known as iPhone 16e) this year, the iPhone 16 series is expected to have a big price cut.

    • +1

Given what is happening to AUD, there is a very little to no chance for this from happening. We should be happy if the prices remain same!

    • I am assuming iPhone sales for the holiday season were below expectations. Apple also makes significant revenue from subscription services and saless and it might be in their interest to main strong customer base

iPhone gross profit margin of 46.2 percent so there is room for discounting plus YOY sales are down
      https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apples-iphone-sales-disappoin…

      • I am assuming iPhone sales for the holiday season were below expectations.

There is very little compelling reason to upgrade from 15 to 16..
The gimmick camera button and AI is not compelling enough..
Even a iphone 13 pro max is still good enough to use nowadays..

The iphone line has matured now (small upgrades/changes each year)
so people are not upgrading as often

If Apple brings out their own foldables or even something like this would be cool

  • Suckers

    • People will continue to pay whatever Apple ask for the iPhone because apparently it's a "quality product".

  • Nothing new in this iPhone .. you may as well an iPhone 13 or 14 pro max

  • +1

Nice price drop… Hopefully the S25 isn't too expensive otherwise these might be the phone to get

    • Hopefully the S25 isn't too expensive otherwise

why would it not be expensive when they introduce the s25 in January 22, 2025?

Phones keep getting more expensive each year or if lucky they keep the same price structure of last year..
but it would still be 2K+ for the ultra

and if they do the trade in and bonus offer (like previous year)
then you might get 512GB for around 2K (minus trade in etc and bonus/loyalty discounts)

Apple price drop is probably due to lower than expected sales of iphone 16 (since Apple hardly ever discounts their phones)
and they doing it just 11 days from samsung s25 launch (to also get android phones users to switch to Apple ecosystem)..
This is like a double attack for Apple

  • so ~$1K for less than 1tb of extra storage? cooked.

    • What do you need a lot of storage for? You can connect a USB hard drive and load stuff on and off. My phone is 128Gb and I’ve got apps, music, all my photos from 50 days in Europe, etc and I have 50Gb still free.
