RRP $499 for a polyester blend lol

    • +1

I’d never buy it for $499.
Do you recommend any other wool blend coat?

    • +16

They are trying to pull the wool polyester over your eyes.

    • +1

      Polyester and recycled wool, lol

    • This is my takeaway too

  • Thanks, bought 2 for 998.. paid full rrp

  • +10

Oxford are known for their ridiculous RRP and their constant discounts

  • +27

Half second-hand wool, half plastic. Anything above $100 would have been a crime anyway

    • +4

Even at 100 it feels a bit rich. I got a similar one from H&M for around $60

      • +1

        just not wool rich

    • Anything above $100 RRP would have been a crime anyway

      fixed

    • -3

      Half second-hand wool

Fun fact: All wool is second-hand and the original owner had no say in it being 'recycled'

      • Nah that's direct from the manufacturer. Anything after that is second hand.

        • -1

Nah that's direct from the manufacturer.

I'm not sure you're understand how wool is 'manufactured'…

          • +1

@1st-Amendment: I'm not sure you understand sarcasm there champion. Thought it was pretty obvious, but to explain further, my joke was that because the sheep grow the wool, in a sense they are manufacturing it. Figured it was a simple joke, didn't equate for you being even simpler. Hope that helps little buddy

            • -1

              @Thefong:

but to explain further, my joke

Explaining jokes always makes them funnier… keep it up!

      • If you’d spent any time around sheep in Australia you’d know they look forward to having a haircut.

      • Well then, this wool is third-hand

Shorn from original wearer - sheep 🐑

        Manufactured into clothes 👚

        Worn by original buyer
Donated to charity etc - often after little use

        Sent overseas to recover wool
Recycled wool remanufactured into next clothing 👕
        Sold to next buyer…

  • +3

    Those sleeve buckles though…

  • Paid $10 for similar "Wool Rich Overcoat" @H&M sale few years back. Also made from second-hand wool & half plastic.

Looks good. A bit prickly. But only used few days a year in Qld Winters🌞

  • +3

    What a silly RRP

  • +3

Seems a little short for an overcoat imo lol

    • +2

Overcoats look much better when they go below the knee

      • +1

TBF the model is 6'2 and wearing medium.
On that basis, I reckon the sleeves would be about a foot too long for me.

  • +2

It's Oxford. It could be coated in gold and it still wouldn't be $499

  • -4

Who’d use this? I have one and barely wear it. Maybe one day a year lol 😂 and that’s anywhere in Aust including VIC and TAS

    • +7

You're having a laugh if you genuinely believe that this is attire only for rare occasions in Victoria, let alone Tassy.

Late autumn & winter wear, even see this during the start of spring and footy finals

  • +1

Is all wool used by humans (previously used by sheep) considered recycled?

    • +3

No. It's Garment recycling / resource recovery!

Done by underpaid workers in poorer countries.

Unravelling the wool from used clothes (eg donation to charities here), washed, woven incorporating synthetic materials (for strength & durability), dyed.
Then sewn together by other underpaid workers into 'new' clothes…

It's a time honoured tradition of reclaiming good materials from clothing, to make into new.

Now with a high profit motive to make clothes as cheaply as possible for the many fast fashion businesses.

To possibly begin the cycle again (after a few wears) as the clothes are quickly discarded to buy new cheapies.

  • I got a really nice Oxford toiletries bag recently.

  • Can't help but notice in the original Oxford link, in the video, the model missed grabbing his coat in the first attempt, must've been their best shot (or only?).

  • The button strap on the shoulders - is that a fashion statement?

    • Russian god father

  • Any good brand/store suggestions for wool/wool blend men's clothes?

  • I work for a company that stocks Oxford and it’s well known that Oxford is intentionally permanently on discount lol

  • mensware guy said these coats are too short iirc

The fact that every comment is calling this out for the scam it is and yet the post has zero downvotes shows how dysfunctional OzB's idiotic rules about downvoting are.

    • What's the rule?

      • Let me put it this way - this is the first time I haven't had a downvote revoked, and my account is 6 years old. My favourite rule is that if other people downvote your comment, the associated downvote (of the bargain) gets revoked.

        • -2

They are voting guidelines not rules, and you are supposed to outline issues with the deal, product or seller. Not mumble on about scams and how you don’t like ozbargain.

          Negative Votes
To let others know about issues with the deal, merchant or product.

        • +1

first time I haven't had a downvote revoked

You have now. Deal Downvote revoked by community!

if other people downvote your comment, the associated downvote (of the bargain) gets revoked.

How that works: If you get 8 negs for a Neg vote for Deal, your Neg vote is revoked.
Will show the person that gave the 8th neg - 'your vote has removed the Neg'.

          • @INFIDEL: Indeed it has, lol. And the bargain post itself still has zero downvotes. Good job OzB

            • -1

@umexcuseme: You’re the problem mate, not OzBargain.

Downvote and provide one or more of these:

              • a cheaper price available from another retailer
              • details on why the merchant isn’t trustworthy or has caused issues is the past
              • outline any issues with the product itself

The community downvoted your negative as you did none of those. If you believe this to be a ‘scam’ as you have claimed, outline how it is a scam when you cast your negative vote.

              • @OzzyBrak: Thanks for an example of the fact that not only is the average person dumb as hell, but half of em are even dumber than that.

                • -1

@umexcuseme: Six years on OzBargain, with every single one of your negative votes revoked by the community. It's clear to everyone that you certainly aren't the problem.

                  • @OzzyBrak: Cool story, you can stop drooling in my direction now.

    • +1

I don't see any comment calling it as scam. Is the value there? Possibly not for the fabric but doesn't mean it is a scam.

When I read your comment I thought you meant people paid and never received it.

    • There's a difference between what something is worth, and what people will pay for something. simple as that

      • -1

There's a difference between what something is worth, and what people will pay for something

Is there? If someone is not willing to pay the asking price then that is not its true value. The value of anything is exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it.

        • I saw Nike singlets in Rebel Sport for $70, and i'm sure there's a few people that buy them at RRP, but that's certainly not their true value.

  • Should sell like hotcakes in Perth atm….

  • not bad not bad
