Just bought Canon CanoScan 9000F flatbed scanner from Amazon to make digital copies of my old photos & 35 mm negatives. Local price for the same model is between $300-$400. I checked BH photo video but they don't post scanners to Australia.
Most of the scanners from USA work on 100-120VAC 50/60 Hz but the CanoScan 9000F specifications show that it can work on 100-240VAC (50/60 Hz) power supply. Even if it does not work on Australian power supply you can buy a power converter (about $25) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200W-STEP-DOWN-TRANSFORMER-STEPDO…. Still works cheaper than local price.

Edit: I checked with Canon USA and they said that the scanner will work on 100-240V (50/60 Hz) power supply. It looks like it does not require a step down transformer.

  • Wow, I still have a Canon 8800F which I bought from Officeworks for ~$250 with a cashback offer way back in 2007. Enclosure looks exactly the same. Pretty surprised at the local price for the 9000F now considering our dollar was worth around 60 US cents in 2007! :)

I just checked the power supply for my 8800F (which I suspect is shared with the 9000F) — it's 100-240V.

I also have the 8800F, best scanner I ever had. If this is just as good, or better, then this sounds like sure fire winner. I scanned all my family negs going back to the late 50's with mine.
I assume that the power supply is the same, mine is input 100v-240v 50hz/60hz, output (to scanner) 32v dc, so I doubt that you would need the step down transformer.
Well spotted OP, as soakwashrinsespin says, it looks identical to ours. Specs appear same as well. I can't remember how much I paid for mine, but it was not cheap. Purchased locally and my computer shop had to get it in for me as they only sold cheap HP scanners.

Best scanner I've owned, too! I used mine for medium format negatives — all the other options with this capability were much, much more expensive at the time. And I actually can't see myself needing to replace this scanner in the foreseeable future — it wouldn't surprise me if I'm still using it in 2020! :)

  • Thanks soakwashrinsespin & woodvaliens for checking the voltage. I wasn't sure when I saw the specs sheet as most of the other scanners from USA work only on 100-120v.
I mailed Canon USA and received a reply saying that it will work on 100-240VAC (50/60 Hz), so I do not need to buy a step down transformer.

    • Yeah, that would be because it runs off a universal power pack. You might still need a plug adaptor or a pair of pliers to twist the pins though.

  • It spurred me to check if Amazon can ship the Epson V500 to Australia. Unfortunately not. But thanks for posting this anyway.

    • I have looked into getting an Epson shipped from Amazon but they are 110v only so they would require a step down transformer.

    • I should mention here that Epson are running a $50 cashback until the end of March 2013 for the V500 in case anybody is considering it. That includes me.

      • If you check on Epson website you will notice that the $50 discount is not available at many major retailers.

        • You can get it cheaper from a staticice search anyway. Free shipping too.

      • Got one from here a few months ago: http://www.estore.com.au/product/eps0500
Currently $316, and you also get the $50 back….. Good scanner…. Software that comes with it is a little old now, but still good…..

  • Good price. The mkII version will be out soon for US$199. I might just wait.

    • I just compared the specs side by side, they're exactly the same.

  • Thanks to OP.
Great scanner at the great price.
I bought mine to digitize all my negatives/slides & it does excellent job.
Very quick & the scans are fantastic.
    Highly recommended.
