[VIC] Free New York Style Hot Dogs, Friday 28 Feb to Sunday 2 Mar @ CommBank Popup Store, 524 Flinders St, Melbourne

100

MELBOURNE, ARE YOU HUNGRY? Enjoy New York-style hot dogs, served by legendary Times Square street food vendor Johnny G - completely free!

To celebrate the launch of Travel Booking via the CommBank app, weʼre bringing a slice of New York to Melbourne with a unique walk-through experience.

What: Walk-in NYC
When: Fri 28 Feb & Sat 1 March, 12pm–8pm / Sun 2 March, 9am-2pm
Where: 524 Flinders Street, Melbourne

Looks interesting albeit out of the way on Flinders. Free is free but while I'm no hot dog connoisseur, John's Hot Dogs is definitely not the best NY hot dog. Gray's Papaya is my pick at a reasonable price.

can't have new york style hot dogs in Australia because we have food regulations.

    how long's the line?

    • No line for 2pm Friday, there was a line by 4pm though.

  • I’ve not been to NYC. What’s their style of hot dogs? Just a sausage, bun and sauces?

Pretty much the same. Sauerkraut or relish is a common topping similar to what you get at Costco here.

Can I get a dollarmite account while im there?

It's funny, because most things food related in America are oversized, except for the NY hot dogs.
Had some from a couple of street vendors and at the baseball… TINY, close to half the size of what we'd have here.
I thought it was pretty good value for $1 or so. Until I realised I had to buy 4 of them!!! 🤣

    • Hahahaha. Good point

  • I went around 1:30pm. I don't think many people know yet, so I wouldn't say there were that many people. I think I joined the hot dog line while staff were waiting for some sort of food prep as the line didn't really move much for about 10 minutes, but I got my hot dog in about 15 minutes. Was a good hot dog for free.

Went today and really enjoyed the experience. Don't forget that you also have a chance of winning 10K worth of travel credit via the commbank travel section on their app.

  • Fun mini event, photo ops and mini hotdog. The vegan one was tofu like, idk how to feel.

  • We're waiting in line and they just ran out of buns so now they've offered us to have "naked hotdogs", will update after if it's worth it.

Forgot to update earlier: by the time we got in there were buns again and the hot dogs were pretty good, but nothing you haven't had before. Worth lining up if you want free food but wouldn't have done it for even $1.
