Reviews have some photos that doubts the quality of those. Seem to have Target/KMart quality.

Can confirm garbage. I bought the congac ones last year.

      • Cheap genuine leather that is even rubbish for genuine leather. Thin, scuffs easily and because it's such low quality leather you can't even polish properly.
      • Zero support
      • Sole is cheap rubber that wears down quickly.
      • Glued heel that starts to come off from the boot after a few months. (Edges started to come off the shoe in 3 months for me)
      • Elastic over stretches out way too easily.

Honestly I would just avoid Hush puppies all together. Anyone who says they sell "good boots" or "decent value" don't know what they are talking about or they lucked out.

Yeah, they used to be good a long time ago. I have these boots, but the quality is cheap, every possible corner has been cut in making them as cheaply as possible.

    • Lol did you went through all the 4% of the bad reviews?
They are way better comfy than kmart and soft leather. They won't be last long as RM but they are fraction of the price.

    • Have had these before in Cognac colour and wore daily for about 6 months. Comfort-wise they were okay for the first six months. Leather was extremely thin — too thin to even be polished.

      Would not recommend.

    Quality is awful.

Are all hush puppies bad quality? I've heard they are good as a budget shoe.

      • -1

Can't speak for all, but I've this style and they died very quickly.

I got two different pairs in the last deal. Returned them both. Garbage quality. Sizing between pairs was completely different, the diameter of the "foot hole?" was different between the left and right on one pair, was not even close to equal and super loose. The soles of the boots didn't match the descriptions, the soles were embarrassingly squeaky. Tanning colour blemishes…. There were just trash. Maybe acceptable if they were $30 K-Mart boots….

Quality control is non existent, so maybe you get a good pair?

    • +2

If you like PU plastic instead of leather then go kmart. Dont think they sell leather shoes there anymore. Not many options under $80 for genuine upper leather anymore

Never trust anything fashion/clothing on Ozbargain. Either the cheapest low quality or most hideous gaudy thing you can imagine.

      Or both? 😂

True maybe 97% of the time

I have been very happy with my HP shoes from Amazon/OZB. I usually buy them for less than $80 and they last about 2 years. I was gifted a pair of RM Williams(Fitted in their actual shop),they look good but they don’t feel great and I can’t just digest the $600+ price tag.
Can you suggest a better leather boot for that price?

      • I've bought Hush Puppies and Julius Marlow boots for about $57 thanks to OzB and while they certainly look and feel great at the start, they're definitely cheap quality. Very little waterproofing out-of-the-box and requires a little more knowledge about waterproofing and leather care to get to the same standard as cheaper yet acceptable quality boots. The sole and heel also wear out very easily. The colour fades more quickly under UV. These might have a lifespan of 1 year with regular use and across all weathers. As someone transitioning into more timeless pieces and less "fast fashion", I honestly wouldn't consider these boots at their original price ever, which is why I only bought them for sale price. Their manufacture price is maybe about 8 dollars in some China, Bangladesh, or SEA shop.

Mermin, Thursday boots, Allen Edmonds (during their very frequent 50-60% sales never buy full price) are great for the price ~200-400aud. If you buy yourself some decent conditioner they easily last a few years before you need to resole, alot longer if you rotate your shoes. Wolverine, redwings if you happen to find them during a sale, Iconic used to have wolverines, asos every now and then…etc usually around the 300aud mark.

Adelante if you have hard to find shoes sizes (extra wide, nonstandard instep…etc) expensive but for MTO shoes 100% customised to your feet, if you have a weird size you don't really have a choice.

Mongrel boots if you're not one to take care of your boots and abuse them completely ~100-200aud. Only a handful of "dressy" boots. They are more for yard/horseriding/work wear so they stand up to abuse very well but no resoling i.e. dump them after a few years.

        • thanks for the info, I couldn't find any of those around the $79 mark though

I’ve bought RM boots for 40% off retail thanks to this site, I humbly disagree!

    • melon thinks in black and white :/

Do your homework before criticizing something. The products are proven over time.
Wiki: Hush Puppies is an American brand of casual footwear, founded in 1958 headquartered in Rockford, Michigan. The brand is known for its comfortable shoes, including loafers, sandals, and boots, and has experienced significant popularity over the years, particularly in the 1990s.

This is another company that used to produce quality products, and have since changed gears to rest on their popular name brand, produce low-quality, high profit products, and are trying to make as much money as possible for next quarter's earning statement. I wouldn't be surprised if the brand had been bought by a venture capital firm, who will keep doing this until the company's reputation is so tarnished that they stop pulling in money. Then they'll borrow unfathomable amounts of money so the company is saddled in debt, funnel that money out of the company and into their pockets, and then file for bankruptcy. We see this over and over again.

Surprised by the reviews here, I have had a Hush Puppies Wisconsin (or Norris) for roughly 3 years regular wear and it’s rock solid. Size runs large though after wearing in for a few weeks.
Same sale running on official store.

    • +2

Likewise. I’m not sure of the difference between the Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Chelsea, but the former has been fantastic for me and held up well for a couple years use at two or three times per week, so happy to try this Chelsea edition - which looks identical - for just $80.

What would all the naysayers suggest as a good chelsea boot for under $100 then?

    • Mongrel for 150 last year were pretty amazing. Very happy here. I wouldn't bother sub 100.

      • Same price right now with 5% off first timers
        Premium Riding Boot

  • I recently bought these… quality seems ok for the price. Should last a few years

  • What's with the wooden heel on the black ones, looks terrible.

    • It's businessy.

    • Usually that heel-block section is stacked leather…. but… at this price, you might just be right.

  • I forgot to return my others, they are a little too big

  • +1

As a Podiatrist, I have to say, these are bad boots. They have deteriorated in quality over the last few years, lasting is odd, they run large.

I see numberous issues with the side of the heel counter falling off. Soles experiencing hydrolysis and the pleather peeling off.

  • +1

Have had the dark brown ones for a couple of years. Yes they wear a little large and unfortunately no half sizes when I purchased. They are otherwise comfortable and hard wearing.

  • +2

Also surprised by the reviews here.

i got a pair from the last deal and I havent been able to stop recommending them.

They look good, and are comfy as hell.

Quality has been solid so far, no issues at all.

    highly recommend.

dang it, i bought rmw, these are so much cheaper.

    • Huh? A pisstake I hope?
These shoes are utter rubbish. Have bought them before and fell apart in 2 months.

      • phew, that is great news. i will keep the rmw.

  • +1

Bought last time…. Boy o boy, the ice skating rink feels everywhere you walk

  • Size 10.5 was only $58

  • Very poor quality sole and also slippery in wet with

Pro tip: Buy a pair of jodhpur/riding boots instead of shelling out for these or RM Williams.

This way, you get genuine quality without the yuppie markup.

    • +1

how much for the horse though?

  • +1

Im getting $140 odd dollars, has this expired?

    • Expired for black. Still running for tan/cognac.

      • +1

        Thanks! Got a pair.

  • Bought some of these in black recently. Only worn them a few times as I bought as a dress boot but the back of the heel is already showing an unacceptable amount of wear.
