  • OP, if you can provide to us the details of even a single person who’s paid $48 for one of these 500g packs, I’ll be impressed.

Guilty - I used to buy them for my old pup for $40 each. But that was because he was elderly and small, so wouldn't eat much. And I wanted him to have good quality food as his health was declining. I also used to homemake food, but sometimes didn't have time so these were a great alternative (especially he loved eating them more than homemade food towards the end). Though costwise, these bickies weren't that crazy in price when you consider their serving size and cost per day (back then I did excel sheets to compare the food price/day). Because they're freeze dried there's so many more servings in the bag than one would realise!
But that was just me, and there were so many factors at play why I chose them (health conditions, nutrient levels, etc). Nowdays I notice there are a lot more options for quality biscuits too, so I don't know if I would still go this route. I miss spending my weekends researching the price and quality of biscuits for my pup. He lived to a whopping 21yrs on these things and was bouncing around till the day we said goodbye <3

RIP puppy. 21 years is impressive.

Hope my Frenchie gets to at least half that age (he is sleeping on my shoulder as I type).

        • +1

21yrs was a blessing - and I hope you get that and many more!!! <3
Nothing is quite as wonderful as a slumbering frenchie… mainly because it means they're not getting up to mischief lol

      • Wouldn't 100% fresh Hoki or Beef be much cheaper (as this is 90% meat plus some filler anyway), even after factoring in the weight loss from freeze drying?

        • +1

Of course homemade is cheaper :) It's cheaper for most things - like pickling and sauce making etc. In another life I was a private contract chef, so I always added in the extra$ associated. But when you consider sooo many other factors such as storage pricing, $appliance energy costs for cooking AND storage, fuel/tyre usage, product costs, and supplements to balance RAW feeding, then your OWN time to prep.. let alone balance the meals yourself and meal plan. How much are you really saving? Especially with peace of mind. It's never just a case of buying hoki or beef, as dogs are omnivores which require a balance of other nutrient levels. I think it's fine when they're young and healthy. But when mine got older (all 4 of mine lived to 20+yrs), or had complex health needs which required extra attention to meal prep… it was really worth the money.
But it was also that peace of mind.
I know it's not for everyone though! It worked for me and my pups' health needs, especially with their chronic genetic conditions. I wanted quality and was prepared to pay extra for it. Just thought I'd put in my 2cents as someone who chose to buy the product (a little dog-mad, but happily!). :) :)
