HODL for Samsung's tri-fold (late 2024) or Fold 7 this August?
If you're in the market for foldable would you get this one?

  • Do watch #jerryrigeverything videos before opting out for any foldable and flipper phones.

If it doesn't scratch at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7, I'm not interested.

I’d it doesn’t flap open the wings and fly like a butterfly, I’m not interested! You buying a phone that folds? Or some scratch resistant material? Caused in that cause in recommend glass!

Got an email as well, calling it a crazy sale. It is indeed crazy to pay more than 2K for a mobile phone.

  • Finally, something that makes IPhone prices seem OK.

      lol. how's that even relevant?

    • no bueno for people looking for foldables though

I've gone through 2 of the pixel 9 pro fold and would recommend against it.
The first one's inner screen literally developed a black dot out of nowhere on the inner screen and then spread. Google refused to fix it under warranty. This was only after a month or so.
I then made a big mistake of getting a second one instead of going back to Samsung. After a few months of using it, I just have to give it back and upgrade to a different one.
    Issues:
    - Keep overheating, especially when Android Auto is running.
    - Phone is quite buggy. A lot of time, it won't swap to the inner screen when opening. I had to close and reopen a few times for it to swap.
    - Camera isn't great considering the price. Photos are OK at best. Video stabilisation is terrible and video boost (which improves it somewhat) muat be turn on manually everytime and take forever.

For what it's worth, I've had it since launch and I love it.

No problems with the inner screen at all, and I use it frequently, multiple times a day.

I use it with a Spigen Slim Armour Pro case and a Spigen GLAS.tR EZ Fit external screen protector. I'm not using an internal screen protector given Google advises you not to.

I look after my phone, but there's been a few occasions when I've dropped it by mistake from my hand onto a hard surface on the ground and nothing bad has happened.

I'm not suggesting your experience isn't valid at all, I've got no idea what the failure rate is for these phones. I'm just noting that not everyone's experience is negative.

I had one - loved it, but way too fragile. The inner screen broke and killed the phone! Looking for a replacement foldable - Honor V2/3 is in the mix for cheaper price.

At least with Google and Samsung you have authorized warranty/replacement. Oppo/Huawei/Xiaomi or whatever foldables from China all have the same issue: ~2 grands for a gray import with limited to zero official support when things go wrong with your device. And foldables are prone to issues lol

      • The OPPO Find N3 was sold officially here for a few months and they have an authorised service centre in the CBD.

      • It's more so the pixel fold 9 and fold 6 are about 2-3 gens behind the Chinese stuff in foldable hardware, which make $2k for this hard to Stomach, especially when oppo has Australian warranty…

the vivo fold x3 / mi mix 3 etc are both fairly comparable to this and both are are already 2 generations old

the last gen fold x3 pro and find n3 are well ahead of this in every aspect

and the find n5 is space magic in comparison with that screen + battery size relative to weight.

even the special edition Fold SE / W25 is significantly behind last gen oppo/vivo in terms of size/weight/runtime.

        • I'm not denying anything you said, I will get any of those Huawei/Vivo/Xiaomi/Oppo foldable if they are sold here officially. But they are not, so I won't.

Oppo Find N3 was a special case and they are now both sold out, at that time I'm using Samsung Fold 4 and didn't know about it. But now what fold form from Chinese brand that officially here. Zero, none, nein. Oppo Find N5 is released globally on Feb and guess what, they are not in Australia this time lol.

          • @Masticccc: Yeah, also the UI/UX on the samsung folds are a bit nicer than all of these (incl the pixel), even though the hardware is behind.

I prefer my zfold 5 OneUI over OriginOS on the Vivo but not HyperOS 2 on the Xiaomi (but the xiaomi hardware isn't as good as vivo/oppo.)

Warranty on a foldable is deffo important though, very understandable, I had a flip3 screen detach from the body before…
