Kids School Shoes

Its that time of the year again. My 6 and soon to be 10 year olds will need new shoes for the return to school.

Not interested in cheap and nasty brands that will fall apart after a few weeks, but s decent brand such as Clarks or something of similar quality and durability. In porevious years Clarks and last year Startrite lasted the full year despite the trashing they get.

Anyone know of a decent deal on good brands?

  • I agree with you, a decent brand like Clarks are good. No point buying cheapies from K-Mart.
Myer usually has a sale on school shoes this time of the year. Usually a big discount for the second pair. Very handy when you need to buy more than one pair. Last year I bought 4 pairs at Myer. 2 for each kid: 1 pair fits now and another pair a size up. From my experience, both my daughters outgrown their shoes during the year, and I found it's very hard to buy school shoes in the middle of the year (no size, limited styles, NO DISCOUNT). Their feet are only going to get bigger, they will need that second pair sooner or later.
So try Myer, they have plenty of stock, the staff are quite helpful & knowledgeable re styles & sizing. But be prepared to wait in line!

  • btw, where do u get the startrite shoes from? I got a pair off ebay and they were great.

  • We had mixed results with Grosby boots. One kid loved them and they lasted. Other kid ended up ripping the sole off. About $30 Per pair.

Startrites I got at Birkenhead Point in Sydney last year. We had already bought Clarks but these were a fair bit cheaper so we got them and returned the Clarks to Myer. Unfortunately I lost the car park ticket and with it a fair chunk of the money saved as I had to pay the full day fee to get out. Fuming! First and hopefully last time I have done that.

Startrites were decent and lasted the full year.

Myer was a good tip, 50% off the second pair and my wife has picked up some Clarks today.

    • That shop at Birkenhead with childrens shoes (the one close to the street) has moved on. Still a shoe shop but adult shoes only. I asked where I could look for the children's shoes and the assistant suggested "David Jones?". There is a David Jones outlet store at Birkenhead but with a total of around 5 pairs of childrens shoes in stock. There used to be some other shoe stores at Birkenhead with children's shoes but I didn't find any last month.
If you are looking for Startrite school shoes they are in Footlocker - expensive though.

EDIT - THE STARTRITE school shoes are in Athletes Foot - not Footlocker

  • Betts Airflex are 25% off at the moment http://www.bettskids.com.au/
My daughter has had their sandles and they have lasted really well. Don't know about their school shoes though.
I don't know how flash your school is, but having tried many different shoes (some shipped from overseas) and now we have gone to black kids dunlop volleys :) They are springy, flexible, last well and cheap. But then DDs school is a state school and not fussy about shoes.

  • Was at Myer this morning and they have buy one get one half price on school shoes at the moment. Not sure when sale finishes though.

  • Rebel sport has 40% off clarks.

    • Are they include kid school kid shoes?

    • never knew rebel sports sell clarks.
