Will The Old Model RAV4 Resell Value Decrease Instantly Once The New 2026 Model Is out?

I am looking to buy a hybrid SUV these days, budget around $60k, been looking the Sealion 6 and RAV4, have to say Sealion 6 has a very nice interior, however I still tend to buy RAV4 because of the service fee and insurance fee is much lower, also more reliable.

I knew that the new RAV4 Model is going to be announced soon and probably can be ordered next year (or maybe end of this year?) I am worried that once the new model is out, the old one resell value will be decreased instantly. I will probably trade the RAV4 like in 2-3 years time, so I am unsure whether this period of time is good to get a RAV4.

Any thoughts?

Get a high yield Mercedes AMG or Lexus going by your username.

New model will be more expensive, leaving the old model to sell for around the same price

Source - every Toyota release over the last 7 years or so

However, gut tells me - no.

Reasoning. The new body shape isnt dramatically different. The $ entry point will be higher though, making it more likely that current gen will remain popular for longer. Also, Toyota is unlikely to do any significant/earth shattering interior changes (I mean, they're not going to suddenly look like the interior of an Ioniq 5)

I say 3 years max based on life cycle of first year of current generation (2019 - so 2029)

  • Depends on stock levels and pricing of the new model.

IMO a new model doesnt really affect the re a le value of the old model unless the new one is coming into the used market OR the new one has somerhing that makes it SIGNIFICANLTY better.

Past and historical values on nearly everything says of course, obviously.

The last easily recognisable time / exception was Covid when some non current models went higher based on lack of supply, but you know all that.

It has always been a a standard feature on cars that it loses value as soon as you drive it out of the showroom, the Tax component is not yours to recoup, but you also know that.

Now, if you bought a collectible…GTHO then you can think differently. It is still only a RAV, nothing to see here.

Want to future proof its comparable value at least in the short term and save a bundle; buy a demo, most bugs and issues already sorted, usually optioned, plus many thingc can happen to kill your buying power by next year's new model.
