I was window shopping not sure it's a good watch or not. Starbuy also has Seiko Cocktail 38.5mm SRPE43J for $441.00. But not as cheap as it [used to] be(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863137)

not sure it's a watch or not

    Wear on wrist ✔️
    Tells the time ✔️
    Is it a watch ❓

My bad, missing an important word …

      Could be a trophy wife

    1. Good price for open heart
    2. Cocktail Time at 40.5mm is just too big for me
      1. You have to like that style, open heart - meh/yuk, skeletons - grow up.

2.. agreed, it's too big for a dress watch. There are certain presages that are 38.5 and 39.5mm (I have the latter in the Irish coffee).

I think it can also be dependent on the dial execution, too. I have the Lark I in 40.5mm and it's absolutely gorgeous at that size, I think if it was smaller it would lose a bit of oomph to the dial - like a good whisky that colour needs room to breathe! I've also recently picked up the Negroni (thanks to a superb deal from Deepak!) and it perfectly suits the smaller 38.5mm diameter. The colour still pops but with the numerals added to the indexes it would've stretched them out too far at 40.5 and they'd look lost in space as a result - keeping it compact suits it best IMO.

I'd rather but from Starbuy, express post as well.

and $25 off if you sign up there

  • Quickly found out that a baby and watches don't mix.

      Casio would like to disagree

      • I have the metal G-Shock, it would rip the back of his head off. Lots of sliding off arms to put them down when they fall asleep on you. Any watch gets in the way

I think calling them Baby-G is one of the worst marketing decisions ever, there's really no need for it.

Just call them G-Shocks & clearly mention the smaller size. I don't want the word "Baby" on my watch.

Or you can get the orignal (Orient) for $342 https://www.amazon.com.au/classic-skeleton-mechanical-wristw…

    • +2

Need to add that Seiko bought Orient factories some time ago and rebranded this watch.

    • +1

Holy crap this is expensive. I bought it in 2019 for about $190 AUD. Now this Orient model is made in Thailand, not in Japan.

      • I paid about $290 about two years ago and they where still made in Japan. Not anymore - hopefully Thailand is still good enough.

Hardlex Glass on a $795 RRP dress watch?

    • +1

Nothing wrong with hardlex on a dress watch. It can look really good.

      • These look very good, very classy. But, of course, I wouldn't pay $795 for them

      • Hardlex scratches very easily. The only advantage is it's shatterproof. It's also not reflective. Nothing about it 'looks very good' on a dress watch.

It belongs on a G-Shock, on this is just says 'cost cutting'. If I can pickup an unbranded watch with sapphire glass for around $100 this is a $200 watch at best. I don't understand what Seiko is doing here.

        • Plenty of alternatives, just get your AliExpress watch.

I got a stack of hardlex watches and never scratched any. You can usually replace/upgrade with sapphire anyway down the track. Also not all sapphire is the same, a lot of cheap ones can be smudgey, no AR coating etc.

          • @G-Shock: Maybe you are more careful than I am or you have so many you don't wear them often.

My disappointment is that hardlex is so soft, might as well be plastic (probably is closer to plastic). Even my G shock is scratched and it's worn under a shirt. Meanwhile the face on my second hand samsung smart watch is spotless.

Hardlex shouldn't be defended by watch enthusiasts when mobile phones have better glass. As I said before, it screams cost cutting

@[Deactivated]: Yeah I'm not too rough or clumsy with my stuff, and also rotate a few watches.

If you only have one daily you'd be getting more value and usage out of it so more wear and tear is expected. Anyway it only takes one time to scratch it, could happen anywhere. Usually I'm more likely to knock it, not get scratched by a diamond or whatever. It's still nice to get sapphire when you can, usually it's the next jump up in movements and prices too.

Anyway people like to snub hardlex but it's still a good product. Just never pay RRP for Seiko, aim for 40-50% off.

        • +1

I've got a SARB031, Hardlex looks good on it.

          Still unscratched too.

    • Mate that's why no one pays retail.
Most people know the RRP is laughable.
It's totally fine for half price.

  • Not sure how to post on mobile phone… But here's a nice watch https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-professional-divers-mens-watc…
